According to the CEO, this is ŠKODA’s response to customers’ rapidly changing demands and one way that the Czech carmaker will align itself more closely with their lifestyles. “I can assure you: There will be a real wow moment – both for our customers and for our competition, too,” Schäfer concluded.

Skoda embarks on India 2.5 as the next phase in India.

We are looking at least one coming in and that will be the next investment cycle and that will be called India 2.5. It’s a bit early to talk about the actual investment under that program

- Skoda Auto is exploring a SUV-style compact car that will mark its re-entry into the sub 4-metre segment which it had renounced nearly a decade ago

- Will probably not look at a hatch but more like a SUV/CUV kind of body shape.

- EV test market to begin with Skoda Enyaq being brought in as CBU

- 3 more models below Enyaq for Europe, if demand picks up in India by then, could be as well be explored for India

- There will be at least one small car based on the same platform. It will be slightly bigger than the ID Life concept showcased by VW. It could be the vehicle that could be used in India

As slogans go, I rate that one Not Too Bad.

Not too bad, but not memorable. Will look good on the posters for a while, fade away, and never be quoted. It will certainly never be played with at dinner parties. But then, I'm sure the whole advertising industry wishes it could come up with a Vorsprung durch Technik more than once in a decade or two.

I hope the recent Monte Carlo edition (paint job) in Kushaq does not come under the India 2.5 strategy.

On the Sub 4m CSUV space, I believe it may be another model out of the same MQB-IN-0 platform but wonder how they will differentiate the engine options. I wrote it earlier that they should have launched a Sub 4m Cross-over with 1.0L engine option and full blown variant line up with 1.5L TSI option.

I hope they better put the new India 2.5 investments in updating Kushaq/Slavia interiors + features and more importantly test them for NCAP safety standards rather than hiding behind the past glory. This may give them some talking points on the showrooms over Kia and Hyundai.

The sub-4m segment is very specific for India. Thus, we would like to have a car that looks so good, while also is sub-4m, that we can use it for exports. I have challenged our team to do exactly this and not only make it shorter to fit the rules, but make it to be something for exports as well

This means no new vehicle with a prospect of reasonable sales for next 3 years! Great, I can only wish them very good luck. If this is their vision, they seriously need to get it checked. They are claiming hatchbacks are dead, no way that's gonna happen. There is still room for a competent premium hatchback in Indian market which can garner 4000 sales a month. Why can't they bring in at least an electric hatchback & SUV through the CBU way and test the waters?

Skoda India sold 5,608 units in March 2022, recording its highest ever monthly sales.



Year-on-year, sales in March 2022 increased almost six-fold, compared to the 1,159 units sold in March 2021.

A total of 5,919 units were delivered to customers in March 2022 as well - the highest ever for the brand in India.

Skoda looking at launching more fuel efficient GreenLine models in India.

Packed with efficient tech, GreenLine Skoda's will help meet CAFE norms, lower CO2.

GreenLine cars and SUVs have several features and tweaks that help increase fuel efficiency.

These include taller overall gearing, so that the car travels further for every revolution of the engine. This reduces the amount of fuel consumed and is normally done by using a taller or longer final drive. GreenLine cars also use low rolling resistance tyres. Rubber tyres deform as they roll and this causes resistance and wastes energy. Using low rolling resistance tyres means less fuel is used. While the gains are relatively small, the effect over the life of the car is considerable. Also put to use are energy recuperation or hybrid systems. These include electric generators and motors that help wind back energy that is otherwise lost to a battery. Skoda is also likely to use drive modes. While many cars today have ECO modes, the use of these in conjunction with other systems normally results in a larger overall impact. To improve aerodynamic drag, GreenLine cars are also lowered by 10-15mm.
While this, in principle, is possible, executing it in our conditions could prove to be difficult, as a high ground clearance is important. Still, both the Kushaq and Slavia have ample clearance.

While GreenLine hasn’t been introduced in India yet, there are other Skoda ‘special’ editions we are more than familiar with. These include examples like the RS, L&K and Monte Carlo, all of which are on sale in India. The RS badge is used on cars that have sportier specifications. They come with more powerful engines, sportier suspension components and performance-inspired interiors and exteriors. L&K or Laurin & Klement badged cars are the most luxurious Skodas on offer. Here, additional chrome, leather and wood garnishing are used, among others, to enhance the feeling of being in a luxurious environment. And these cars also get many distinguishing features and additional tech on the inside. Then there is Monte Carlo, and cars and SUVs that fall under this umbrella are given a sporty look and many attractive ‘blacked out’ features.

Skoda to evaluate Ev's for India

Skoda Enyaq iV electric crossover spied in India.
Skoda’s first EV has been spotted in top-spec 80x guise, undergoing testing before a potential early-2023 launch.

Skoda is gearing up to launch its first EV in India – the Enyaq iV crossover – which has now been photographed on test here. The company has imported the vehicle for testing purposes, ahead of a planned launch sometime in early 2023.
