The Powerdrift review is out as well

And the Autoportal Review

Off topic but the latter review sounds more like a sponsored one, and he seriously needs to stop using failed attempts of humor in his reviews. Doesn't suit the guy. He should focus on what was his USP. But again, even the latest Civic isn't keeping up with its USP and hunting for fuel economy instead. Let's hope they don't price it equivalent to the Camry rather than the Altis. This is what I fear from Hondas.

re: Scoop: Honda Civic spotted testing in India! Edit: Launched @ 17.69 lakhs

I checked out a few reviews. Unlike the last-gen Civic in India, this one is not revolutionary and neither does it raise the bar for this segment but it's a well-rounded package.

The USP of the Civic are the design and fuel economy (not sure how many people in this segment care about it). The major negatives being - rear seat headroom (probably for tall passengers) , rear seat under thigh support seems not so great as well. Among the features missing, Ventilated seats and rear charging ports (there's one USB charging port in the armrest which is usable by rear passengers but still...) looks like the biggest misses in an otherwise feature-packed car.

I think the Petrol CVT will be a big failure. However, the diesel might be a success. The diesel engine has 120 Bhp but the torque is a healthy 300 Nm, which is way higher than the Elantra and pretty close to the 320 Nm of the Octavia. I haven't seen any performance numbers yet but I suspect the Diesel Civic will be pretty close to the Octavia in performance, while offering probably 25-30% more fuel economy. Add to that the peace of mind regards to reliability and A.S.S of Honda vis-a-vis the Skoda, I see many customers in this segment going for the Civic. So, unless Honda prices this horrendously, it should give a good fight to the segment leader.

I hope Honda launches the Petrol manual at a cheaper price.. the Civic is known for its sporty design and performance and the CVT is exactly opposite of that. But, Honda really needs to bring new technology to India like the new Turbo petrol engines to stay ahead of the competition.

Watched a few of the reviews.
There's a great new feature where there are cameras on ORVMs.

But I don't know how long that will last in this country!
People in city traffic like to treat ORVMs as more of a guideline to avoiding collision. Having lost 2 rear view mirrors to Ahmedabad and Navi Mumbai, one can only hope that these ones are going to be India-safe, if not India-proof.

I guess Civic with this engine does not offer Manual transmission anywhere, so chances of getting it here are thin.

The Diesel should have been launched in AT avtar though which I feel might have helped them get numbers. It does not offer good rear headroom so not sure how many would opt for Diesel MT even when they are mostly chauffeur driven.

re: Scoop: Honda Civic spotted testing in India! Edit: Launched @ 17.69 lakhs

Just went through some of the YouTube reviews and found something interesting. The 2554 registration number car is petrol, reddish colour, while 2555 is the diesel, white colour. Most of the aerial shots look extremely similar, even in the way the cars are arranged on the highway. The ‘not bottoming out on a speed breaker’ section in most of the videos show the same speed breaker. Looks like these videos were filmed, and shared across different channels or may be they invested in the same videographer. I know it’s completely off topic, but found this interesting.

Good to know that the boot space is increased by around 70 litres when compared to the previous model which was on sale in India. I know many of you are surprised, previous civic had a comparatively puny boot.

The Autocar video used the 2551 for Petrol and 2557 for Diesel, though. Interestingly, the "bottoming out" section of Autocar's video is over a section which has the most "low ground clearance car" friendly speed breaker in that area (Highway section between Bangalore Airport and Nandi Hills left turn). If I were to TD the car, I would take it to some inner roads on that area just to be sure.

Also, isn't Honda making the same mistake by restricting the engine and gearbox combinations. Earlier the mistake was only Petrol engines, now Petrol only gets CVT and Diesel only gets Manual. And it's not like the Petrol engine itself is new. My guess is it won't make it as big as the last gen did in India.

re: Scoop: Honda Civic spotted testing in India! Edit: Launched @ 17.69 lakhs

This car will have a boost in sales once the fake Type-R body becomes available, even I would love to "rice it" to make the boy racer inside me happy SUV's don't have the edge when it comes to visual mods when compared to such sporty sedans.

Only issue I see is the way transmission options have been made, might not be possible to have manual with that petrol, but diesel could have had the one from CRV's option. This won't be dead on arrival if they manage to price it close to cars like corolla, just my guess.

Yes, the clips seem to be part of a 'press kit' from Honda. Even the lane watch demo clip is the same. The reason I feel it is part of the press kit is because the CR-V video reviews too had the same aerial shots and lane watch shots of the CR-V.

This is where I would rather take our Mods word and not what is being fed to us by these so called auto enthusiast media houses and VLoggers.

The 'speed breaker' test with a full house on some of the more abominable speed breakers in Bangalore will decide if it is really an improvement over the previous Civic.

I would have bought this car if they had offered Turbo like they do in other markets. Too bad India....

Is the automatic not a top-spec model, the infotainment screen seems to be smaller than the manual one which has a large screen. On the plus side this one also has electronic parking brake.

The MT was a VX version and the AT was a V, that suggests AT is being given in V, VX and ZX trims, basically the same as being given in the City.

Thanks for the pictures.

These seem to be the entry level variants since certain items such as sunroof and full LED headlamps appear to be missing.

Hoping that Honda prices the entry level variants sensibly.

Best,
Enigmatic.

Appears to be! The trim level is "v" and you can also notice the different set of alloys as against the review cars.

So, Honda will be launching it in a broad price band !
