re: MG India's first SUV named Hector. Edit: Launched @ 12.18L

I saw test mules on NE1 during the weekend. Couldn't take pictures as they're parked in a corner near Ahmadabad toll plaza. It looks a size bigger than Creta and am sure it can't go unnoticed on road.

I, personally, am looking forward for this launch. It's a challenger and it's definitely going to challenge the status quo by offering more features i.e. connected car etc. If MG prices this aggressively, is a decent performer and gives assured ASS, I've no doubt there would be quite a few takers for it (including me). I remember Rajeev Chaba saying during iSMART launch that there is more in store to surprise us and was very committed to elevate the customer buying experience. How much will actually happen is for us to wait and watch but they're definitely not cutting corners to make it a successful launch. Fingers crossed.

Late to the party with no diesel automatic, but they sure are making some noise due to the big sunroof and other features. The hyundai venue also unveiled similar features, for me the most important one is switching the AC on before entering the car. If I were to buy a car just for the city I would buy the 10 lac cheaper Hyundai Venue as its smaller, but not too small either. I am sure the top end of the hector will be around or cross 21 lacs as the lower spec harrier and creta is 19ish. As far as ASS goes, there is no way to know untill the time comes. It would be good if they can provide a very good warranty, say 5 years or more.

Despite all the chrome and tacky rear bumper cladding, it looks great in white.

I think the white is playing down the amount of chrome. As the colors get darker, the chrome will stand out more.

Btw, have the similarity comments started for Harrier vs Hector ?

Was wondering if I could let go of the chrome overdose. Here is a GIMPed illustration on how it could be.

In the meanwhile have a look at what Xiaomi is launching;

MG India's first SUV named Hector. Edit: Launched @ 12.18L-1556087744559.jpg

^ Redmi SUV.

Rear reminds me of the Lamborghini URUS, where as the interiors are Merc inspired.

Though based on the Besturn T77 has many shades in common with Baojun 530, Clearly better looking than what MG has planned for India.

Hello!

There is currently only one size of the vehicle which is being tested. The only difference that would be there would be the engine configuration or the transmission. And looking at the outside, you'd see difference based upon the various models (alloys, head lamps, etc).

I have been reading comments from our fellow BHPians about the car being Chinese. But as of what I know, the vehicle is sourcing about 80% parts from India itself. Also, regarding the head unit, its good. The kind of capabilities it has is no where seen in vehicles in India. I can give you an example - You can operate your sunroof by just talking to your head unit. Further, the vehicle very well understands the Indian English accent. Talking about all this as I have experienced this personally! You just need to talk to the vehicle and it would do the work for you!

Wow! Stark similarity with the Harrier. Personally, the Xiaomi rear looks better than the Harrier rear to me.

To be honest, other than the colour there is barely any similarity.

Anyway lets not get anymore

re: MG India's first SUV named Hector. Edit: Launched @ 12.18L

Spotted by a Zigwheels reader near the Vadodara-Ahmedabad expressway.

Quote:
The three Hectors spotted were wearing the shades of red, grey and dark purple/burgundy. Of these trio, we have already seen the grey and dark purple burgundy variants earlier, but the red is being spied for the first time. All the three SUVs spied seem to be the top-end variants as they seem to have generous use of chrome and are sporting dual-tone diamond cut alloys.

Lose the overdone silver bits and there's a potentially handsome car underneath.

Exactly my thoughts, Sir!

But with people buying similar styling packs for front & rear bumpers of their Fortuners and Cretas, maybe MG thought of offering them as standard on the Hector.

The front looks surprisingly neat in the White car in the last picture. However, the rear is absolutely messed up. Had there been no tail light strip, I think, the rear end will look much better.

Agree. The front fascia is very good, better than Harrier IMHO. Rear is a disaster, especially the silver skid plates. If I buy this car, the first thing that would do is to paint the skid plates as thick black.
