re: 2022 Maruti-Suzuki Baleno, now launched at Rs. 6.35 lakh

Is that an ORVM adjuster on the passenger side door as well? Or something else?

re: 2022 Maruti-Suzuki Baleno, now launched at Rs. 6.35 lakh

Pardon me if I missed out on this clarification earlier. Now that the automatic version is called AGS instead of CVT or AT, does it mean it is going to be AMT?

What is the knob/button on the passenger armrest for? A similar knob is on the driver's side too but that must be for the ORVMs.

EDIT: It is not present in this image Attachment 2273406, must have been a goof-up I think, because the image looks like something from a simulator.

re: 2022 Maruti-Suzuki Baleno, now launched at Rs. 6.35 lakh

I have mixed feelings with this new Baleno.

On one side I am happy to see Maruti focusing on safety for a change and adding 6 airbags and ESP (AMT variant).

But I am disappointed that Maruti has done away with the best gearbox they had in their entire stable, the CVT, and gone with AMT for the flagship premium hatchback Baleno.

This was the USP of the Baleno vs the Swift, Ignis and it made the Baleno the best pick for city commuting.

Going with the common and inferior AMT is a downward move and now they have just AMT or Jurassic 4 speed AT.

Looks like the height adjustable front seat belts have been given a miss this time.

Yes AGS = Auto Gear Shift a.k.a AMT.

You will even find comments in this very thread where people have been telling that CVT on Baleno wasn't anything to talk about so it is better they changed to AMT.

re: 2022 Maruti-Suzuki Baleno, now launched at Rs. 6.35 lakh

The design looks more grown up and suave. However, one thing to note is that it's basically the same car with reprofiled exterior and interiors. The fuel economy has taken a hit and CVT is axed for saving money. Baleno and Glanza had the best CVT transmission amongst the premium hatch backs IMO. It was responsive with minimal rubber band effect and very frugal when driven well.

re: 2022 Maruti-Suzuki Baleno, now launched at Rs. 6.35 lakh

Not in the market for a car immediately, but 360 degree camera, 6 airbags and thicker body panels (just for dent-free ride) are in my must-have list. Never expected the first 2 will come in a car of this segment. I thought I should go for a car in a higher segment for this.

What I don't understand is: they are getting rid of both the costlier CVT and the cheaper and lower-powered 82BHP non-Dualjet engine! May be, they are getting rid of the slow-moving variants / options.

They could have done something to change the old-school rear glass design. A more-wrap-around design would have given it a distinct look than the current one. But then, they may have the i20 redesign debacle in their mind, or that the car may look smaller from the sides due to this.

re: 2022 Maruti-Suzuki Baleno, now launched at Rs. 6.35 lakh

I feel the New Age Baleno has some good bells and whistles up its sleeve to go against i20 and the ALtroz. AMT is a bummer I agree.... But yes the interior looks much more mature and good to see MSIL focusing little bit on Safety with 6 airbags, 360 degree camera, etc.

re: 2022 Maruti-Suzuki Baleno, now launched at Rs. 6.35 lakh

Kudos to the evolved and mature design. AMT is a welcome move but I doubt Maruti would give the benefit of cost savings to customers. Hope Maruti did something about the high speed nervousness (steering and ride) too. That was a serious deal breaker for me after TD'ing a Swift vis-a-vis.

The looks have indeed becoming more butch and bold. It looks like a Tata Baleno to me now (Bolt+Altroz like looks), which is a good thing!

Regarding claimed fuel efficiency, I would like to correct you that it has actually increased as per the leaks.

  • MT from 21.01 to 22.35kmpl (up 6.4%)
(the 23 something quoted for the previous car was for the smart hybrid and not the most popular 1.2NA)

  • Auto from 19.56 to 22.94kmpl (up 17.3%)

And having extensively driven the previous Baleno CVT I can vouch for the refinement, mileage (14-19kmpl always), but also it's lack of engine braking and manual control.

Coming down from hilly terrain and even overtaking needed planning as even the L mode with Sport button activated did not provide that connected feeling with the engine and one needed to ride the A/B pedals more than necessary.

All in all, many feedbacks have been incorporated in this facelift and this is sure to sell well.

Notably, after the exit of the Figo, this might become the most affordable car with 6 airbags/ESP/Hill-Hold/Rear Camera.

re: 2022 Maruti-Suzuki Baleno, now launched at Rs. 6.35 lakh

Neither Maruti nor Hyundai are going for crash testing (above the mandatory required). Getting car crash tested seems to be a costly affair. Not only from the actual test point of view but also form the point of view of the structural modifications required to get good test results.

They are simply adding on airbags and other non-structural safety features on their cars. Some of these features may certainly prevent accidents, but what if the accident happens? How useful the airbags would be if the structure itself is weak?

re: 2022 Maruti-Suzuki Baleno, now launched at Rs. 6.35 lakh

New age MSIL cars sell purely for mileage, service network and sold to people who do not have much awareness on cars. Except for Wagon R and S Cross, every other product appears flimsy built quality. Recently, in my apartment complex, there was an accident at a blind spot...not so high speed...but the Baleno's front wheel got broken. Who sells AMT and 4 speed AT these days?

re: 2022 Maruti-Suzuki Baleno, now launched at Rs. 6.35 lakh

I am wondering what's added to increase the weight from 860Kg to 1400+Kg? Is this the heaviest hatch and also heaviest vehicle from Maruti? Other question is how Maruti is able to increase the fuel efficiency after adding so much of weight?

Refreshed Baleno compared with the existing one, significant exterior and interior design changes.
