860 is the kerb weight (when the car is empty), while 1400 is the gross vehicle weight (kerb weight + passenger weight + luggage weight).

re: 2022 Maruti-Suzuki Baleno, now launched at Rs. 6.35 lakh

Is it just me or the centre console looks a lot inspired from the Tata Stable? I was feeling there's a heavy mix of Altroz + Harrier elements in the way the centre console alone has been done.

Hope the safety measures translate well in a structural differences or real-life scenario as well.

You will even find comments in this very thread where people have been telling that CVT on Baleno wasn't anything to talk about so it is better they changed to AMT.
Frankly I found AMT of Dzire a lot better than CVT of Baleno, It just doesn't move; how ever hard you try. Baleno CVT is the poster child of Rubber band Effect. On the other hand i found AMT in Dzire/Ignis (basically K12 plus AMT) working fine.

Another important thing is efficiency, Baleno CVT has very poor efficiency. On a return Shimla Trip from Delhi the Baleno CVT returned around 12.7 KMPL where on the same stretch at the same time the Baleno MT returned 18.9 KMPL (Both MID indicated and Yes we had two balenos).

The Baleno AMT will easily be atleast 20% more efficient than the outgoing one.

Damn the Sigma variant makes for an absolute VFM with all the features it has! Heck it even has Auto Climate Control as standard (First in segment?) and thankfully Maruti has sent that ugly base model spec speedometer to the bin(unless they have equipped the base variant with the WagonR's tachometer!). Also with projector headlamps and all four power windows now standard, one just needs to get electric adjust and fold for the ORVMs and a nice set of alloy wheels and the Baleno Sigma would be just the perfect basic car you need!

That said, I am a little disappointed with features deletion from the Delta variant! E.g. Adjustable headrests, rear washer/wiper and the chrome garnish now are removed in favor of the 7 inch touchscreen system (Thanks to you Hyundai for making touchscreens so overrated! )

Also disappointed with the fact that ESP and Hill Hold Control are not available on the manual variants! As per what I have heard from someone, this can have negative points in a crash test (!?) (BHPian ron178, please shed some light on this)

That said, really impressed with how wonderfully Maruti has packed the lower trims with standard kit (projector headlamps and auto climate control) which even Compact SUVs like the Sonet, Venue etc (Magnite, Kiger too but they can be given a discount, considering their price!) miss out on!
Also, I bet the 2022 Baleno is not just a major facelift, but a statement that announces the arrival of the tech-savvy Maruti as the giant has woken up and the rivals need to be prepared for a rollercoaster ride!

Isn't this similar to blaming Apple for removing the headphone port? No other manufacturer needed to follow them but they did, so it is mistake of Apple or other manufacturers?
Similar analogy is applicable here too I believe.

I have the exact opposite opinion. The CVT in the Baleno is horrible. We have one in the close family I have driven the Glanza CVT for quite a bit and also the Swift AMT. My senior citizen uncle is the only person who found the CVT good. Not even my dad liked it. I would anyday swear by the AMT compared to the CVT. Too much of rubber band effect, no engine braking and worst high acceleration at higher speeds. The only advantage with the CVT is better start from standstill or a smoother one, thanks to the rubber band effect itself.

For the Baleno I would have expected a six speed TC anyway since Maruti has that as one of the options, but looks like it was not possible to integrate it. With the cost savings done by the removal of CVT, that would accomodate more number of features as well as safety, but not necessarily a price advantage. Expect a hike in prices compared to the earlier Baleno.

New Baleno will continue to be the most fuel-efficient among its rivals.

Quote:
New Baleno will have an ARAI-claimed fuel economy of 22.35kpl for the manual variants, while the new AMT versions return 22.94kpl.

2022 Maruti Suzuki Baleno To Get Self-Centering Steering Wheel.

Quote:
Maruti Suzuki have added a self-centering steering wheel mechanism to the 2022 Baleno. Maruti Suzuki cars are infamous for their lack of self-centering ability with the steering rack. It required extra effort from the driver to center the steering wheel, especially at low speeds and while parking.

Wow! Self centering steering is a premium feature now? The reason why they removed it from cars like Celerio!

6 airbags in a Maruti! Pinching myself if this is for real. Love how competition is pushing our safety-apathetic market leader in the right direction!

Hope this won't end up as a "Baleno BoosterJet Turbo" or "Baleno CVT" after a period based on the "market response"

re: 2022 Maruti-Suzuki Baleno, now launched at Rs. 6.35 lakh

The interior is growing on me. Thank god they are not using the pre-historic steering wheel which can also be seen on the new upcoming S-cross (Next-gen Suzuki S-Cross to debut soon; to rival Hyundai Creta). Remarkable that a simple change of the steering wheel adds to the appeal of the interiors. Can't wait to read the review of the car. If I was in market for a hatchback this would have been the one for sure.

I always just assumed its a by product of any modern steering system. What gives?

Time we thank them for giving self-depressing brake and accelerator pedals?
