In the year 2015 Motor Beam reported that Toyota had said they will not be using the AMT units as they are more likely to breakdown due to more mechanical parts compared to conventional standard automatic transmissions.

Now I am wondering if in these seven years can we say that the AMT's have evolved and have better reliability with negligible breakdowns or have they (Toyota) decided to ignore the shortcomings and compromise on quality and reliability.

This becomes relevant only if the new Glanza uses AMT as an option instead of CVT.

The new Baleno will be exported by Toyota as the Starlet and Glanza.

Baleno will be made only in India, but it will be sold in most markets under the Toyota badge

The Baleno is rebadged as Toyota Starlet for export markets like Latin America and Africa

Only Indonesia and India are likely to retain the Suzuki Baleno badging

I think all the baleno AT will be sold by toyota and the baleno AMT will be sold by maruti.

Perhaps they could offer the CVT Glanza with equivalent of Alpha trim at a slightly higher premium.

Toyota is testing whether the different design of "T" badge adds to air resistance or not which might impact the car's mileage.

2022 Toyota Glanza facelift teased; launch on March 15

Toyota has released a teaser image of the upcoming Glanza facelift. The car will be launched on March 15, 2022.



The updated Glanza will be based on the 2022 Maruti Suzuki Baleno. As per the teaser image, the Glanza will get a bespoke grille and a slightly tweaked front bumper. The car will also get dual-tone alloy wheels.

The interior of the Glanza will be largely similar to the Baleno. It will come equipped with a 9.0-inch SmartPlay Pro+ touchscreen infotainment system, a head-up display, a 360-degree camera, automatic climate control, cruise control, 6 airbags and ESP.

The Glanza will be powered by the same 1.2-litre mild-hybrid petrol engine that powers the new Baleno. It produces 89 BHP and 113 Nm and is expected to be offered with either a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT.

Toyota has worked with Suzuki on the touchscreen, which is how the Baleno/Glanza get that 360 deg camera, which can be identified by how the camera gives a 360° preview around the car, similar to the new gen Tundra, LC300, new Sequoia etc. The new Breda/Urban Cruiser are going to get the same system. Wish Toyota offers it on real Toyota products in India as well (Innova, Fortuner and Camry)

Yes, I feel like the design of the face would be reminiscent of the Camry’s fascia especially, the grille!

On a lighter note, this image signals that the body panels are strong enough that people can sit "on" it.

I don't expect Glanza to get 6-speed AT, sunroof or 1.5L engine. Maruti and Toyota may reserve it for Brezza / Urban Cruiser.

As earlier, it may start from the Delta variant only to "distance" itself from Baleno.

BTW, the name "Starlet" used for export markets seems more attractive than "Glanza". Can Toyota rename it here? (The name "Baleno" is equally bad as Glanza)

Weirdly enough, "Starlet" was the original name of the car, and Starlet "Glanza" was the sports version of the P90 generation Starlet. Its too late to rename the car now but they introduce some limited edition model then I suppose they can use that name.

Or I suppose you have to find a Starlet badge and replace the Glanza one.
