The Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Brezza are set to get a major update this year and Toyota will follow suit with the 2022 Glanza and Urban Cruiser. According to a media report, the cars will be launched once the Marutis are in the market. However, the specific launch timeline is not yet known.



Like the Baleno, the Glanza will also come with a redesigned exterior and interior. Expect both cars to be fairly identical with a few minor changes. Under the bonnet, the Glanza will come with the same 1.2-litre petrol and 1.2-litre mild-hybrid petrol engines.



On the other hand, the 2022 Urban Cruiser will be based on the updated Brezza. It will receive the same cosmetic updates albeit with minor changes. The 1.5-litre mild-hybrid petrol engine will be carried over unchanged.

Meanwhile, Toyota is gearing up to launch the Hilux pickup in the Indian market this month.

The C segment SUVs from Suzuki and Toyota are set to have various cosmetic changes inline with the design philosophies of the respective companies, similar to the Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite.

Hope the same happens with the Glanza and Urban Cruiser as well instead of Toyota simply slapping on their logo on the updated Baleno and Brezza.

We all know you go to nearby Maruti showrooms every January to plan your year ahead. But please widen your focus. The next-gen Vitara Brezza is already in the works. Kindly drop all plans of launching the facelift & instead think about pasting the T badge on the new car. Else, in the deal with Maruti, you have truly gotten the shorter end of the stick.

The Glanza is, of course, a slightly tweaked version of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and it’s no secret that Maruti is working on a comprehensive makeover for the Baleno. After the launch of the updated Baleno in February, Toyota will follow suit with an updated Glanza later in the year.

Just like the new Baleno, expect the Glanza to get similar styling tweaks inside out. These will include a new front and rear fascia, some sheet metal changes, new alloy wheels, an all-new dashboard on the inside, and a new infotainment system, among others.

Under the hood, the updated Baleno will remain unchanged mechanically, which means it will continue with the current 83hp, 1.2-litre petrol and 90hp, 1.2-litre mild-hybrid petrol engines. Both these units are offered on the Glanza, which too is expected to remain mechanically unchanged.

Following the steps of the new 2022 Maruti Suzuki Brezza, the Urban Cruiser is also expected to get a major update. The new Brezza will come by April this year. There will be sheet metal changes, a lot more features and equipment, and even a sunroof for the first time on the updated Brezza.

Under the hood, the updated Brezza will continue to be powered by the sole 105hp, 1.5-litre mild-hybrid petrol engine, thus remaining mechanically unchanged. The updated Urban Cruiser will, thus, be meted out the same treatment.

Rumour: Toyota Glanza facelift launch in March 2022

Toyota is rumoured to launch the Glanza facelift next month. The car is expected to debut a few weeks after the launch of the 2022 Maruti Baleno.



Like the Baleno, the Glanza will also get a redesigned exterior and interior. Similar to the current Glanza, the refreshed version might look identical to its Maruti twin. It will be equipped with new LED headlights, an updated infotainment system, a heads-up display and possibly 6 airbags and ESP.

Under the bonnet, the Glanza will come with the same 1.2-litre petrol engine with an idle start / stop function.

Later this year, Toyota will also introduce the updated Urban Cruiser, which will be based on the 2022 Maruti Brezza.

Toyota is definitely bringing the Glanza facelift in the market. The dealerships are all dry with negligible number of Glanza left in their stock. You may get a good deal on them if you try your luck now.

One big issue for Toyota was that it did not have network access to rural areas to sell the Glanza. However now the focus seems to have shifted to rural markets with continuous expansion of service and sales outlets in tier 3 cities.

- The rumours also are that both Glanza and Baleno shall have a CNG option this time.
- This time Toyota shall also introduce the base version of Glanza (till now they only had the mid and high trims).

Considering that Maruti sells around 60 percent of Baleno in the base version. We can expect significant jump in the sales of Glanza this time.

I expect number of Glanza this time around to be consistently above the 3k mark with the updated launch of the base and cng versions.

Some of the changes to the new Glanza this time around compared to the soon-going-to-be-launched Baleno from the spyshots.

1. DRLs for the Glanza are different from the Baleno's.
2. A new grill compared to the Baleno, under the camouflage looks like a Camry grill.
3. New foglight housings and different lower air-dam shape.
4. Alloys are different compared to what were spotted on the new Baleno.

I quite like the Glanza's alloy wheel design choice and the edgy DRL design over the New Baleno's.

Resembles the only Hyundai alloy design that I actually liked, before they starting dishing out trashy ones .. the very first laser cut shoes on the i20!



With more straight lines, the car seems muscular. Also, the roof section appears thicker as the black door sash is removed from the top part of the doors, making the car's stance & window line appear lower too.

Has anyone here booked the new Glanza? If yes, did the showroom folks indicate when would they unveil it and start the test drives?
I have a booking for the Baleno but would like to wait for the Glanza before choosing one over the other, if Glanza's launch is not too far off.

Select Toyota dealerships have commenced unofficial bookings of the facelifted Glanza. Scheduled to go on sale in March.

Will get distinctive DRLs, alloys, grille, and bumpers. The cabin could get a different colour scheme.

Toyota selling an AMT car is very hard to digest. I am hoping against hope that Glanza retains the CVT transmission and do not go the AMT way like Baleno. I know it is highly unlikely. My only ray of hope is the fact that Baleno is exported to many countries, and maybe Suzuki will retain the CVT for export markets and Toyota.

Export models are all with the 1.4L VVT engine having either an option of a 5 speed manual or a 4 speed TC AT. The CVT is sadly gone now and the Glanza will also be getting an AMT like the Baleno moving forward.

I too wished CVT was retained but Toyota sells iMT cars globally...so AMT isn't far off. They put shamelessly low efforts in making these MS cars look like Toyotas, fat chance they will keep important differentiating factor like CVT in renewed Glanza. Hope MS puts AT some day in Baleno and Toyota gets it by default
