re: Toyota Innova Hycross, now unveiled

Any idea if the top variant in Petrol Hybrid (Q) will be available without captain seat i.e. in the 8 seater option? Some of us don't like captain seats and prefer bench.

Looking at the Innova Crysta, not sure. They didn't heed to customer feedback even after six years. They would want the topmost 'Q' variant to have the exclusive captain seats with ottoman footrests (calf rest?)

That said, the 'Q' variant is Indoensian market specific. We may still have the E,S,G,V,Z variants.

Woohoo!!!

1. Not the useless dashboard design of the Corolla/Corolla Cross. This is a sibling of the Noah/Voxy. Look at that big ledge like storage space in front of the passenger.

2. Dash mounted gearlever. More useful space liberated between the seats.

3. Atlast a modern Toyota steering wheel this side of the Camry.

re: Toyota Innova Hycross, now unveiled

Did Toyota miss a trick here? The current innova crysta is anyway being continued ( or am I wrong in this assumption ?), so why not have the next generation look a lot different? More SUV cues probably?

I mean, if this is the way the new innova looks, then i just dont see the point of the current Crysta carrying on. Monocoque or Ladder on frame, they just look too similar. I think eventually the plan is to stop the Crysta and in that case this is fine. Else they could have tried to create something with more SUV cues, that doesnt necessarily scream MPV. Just like the new Carnival ( which hasnt been launched in India as yet).

re: Toyota Innova Hycross, now unveiled

Was at the dealership and during interaction with SA, got the following
  • Expected to be launched in Jan
  • Price would be in the range of 25Lakhs to 35lakhs - speculated on road price, could differ at the time of launch.
  • Petrol, Hybrid Model only.
  • Hybrid would be very fuel efficient compared to current Petrol Innova. He quoted ~20 KMPL which I could not believe.

1. Typical Toyota behaviour to not scare their traditional buyers. So a more evolutionary style change.
2. The Carnival has to fend off similar priced three row crossovers. In the Innova's case, they would point to the Fortuner for those who want SUV styling. Why cannibalise when people are okay with Innova's design language.
3. Toyota wants to know how much the customers are reacting to the new underpinnings. Hence, The existing Innova will be sold as long as it gets buyers. Also Toyota maybe looking at a 'Innova' family of MPVs like most of their legacy brands having piggybacking smaller brands.

My SA said the price would be equal to the current Innova's pricing. 20+ km/l is pretty much doable.

Looks like a lower variant. Simpler alloys, no chrome beltline and no DRLs and fog lamps in the front bumper.

That looks like a handsome car. A well deserved evolution.

Finally we have spy shot without any camouflage!

Does it look like some kind of white plastic cladding on the wheel arches?

Having a black cladding around the body would make it look more SUVish.

Quick question. Would it make sense to get the Innova Hycross Hybrid for exclusive use as a highway cruiser? From what I understand, Hybrids work as regular ICEs at freeway speeds (100kmph +). Therefore, should such a petrol hybrid be considered at all?

Thank you.

re: Toyota Innova Hycross, now unveiled

It looks pretty good from the spy shots (much more suv like), if the petrol engine and features are good I might go for this when it launches!

Shouldn't be saying anything as the Hycross is yet to be launched and reviewed.

But purely from a textbook basis and for exclusive highway use, IMHO, diesel would be better. Eventhough the hybrids mostly work as ICE at highway speeds, they use the Atkinson cycle, so they are not inefficient per se. But at 100+ km/h speeds, full load and considering our traffic conditions not able to maintain a steady speed, the diesel will be more responsive while still being efficient at high speeds.

But at sane highway speeds and without aggressive overtaking, the hybrid will give about the same FE as a diesel. Which means combined FE of the hybrid is anyday better than a diesel.
