Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Honda City V- MT iVTEC, 2019

City: 10-11 kmpl
Highway: 16-17 kmpl
AC ON 100% of the time
95% City Driving

Pretty happy with the efficiency of the powerful iVTEC. Would have been happy with anything in double digits Once the free flowing engine starts singing, efficiency is usually the last thing on my mind. That raspy engine note just eggs you on to give it the beans. My car has just completed around 5000 kms, so I expect the efficiency to have stabilised more or less around the above numbers.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Creta 1.6 Petrol SX AT 2019 model:

1. Daily commute from from residence to office over 12 km stretch in moderate traffic, speed between 30-55 kmph, 1 or 2 stoppages with speedo down to 6-7 kmph, frequent gear changes : 9.9 kmpl

2. Drive from office to home over 120 km stretch with avg speed 60 kmph, 70% in 6th gear, occasional Cruise Control at 70kmph, rest between 3rd to 5th gear distributed evenly : 13.5 kmpl

3. Traffic free 4 lane over 50 km, minimal gear change, minimal breaking, cruise control 90% of the time at 70kmph on 6th gear: 16.5 kmpl

All measured with TF to TF method with +-5% error chance, AC on 95% of the time, always prefer a light foot on the A pedal because of the reported dismal FE of Creta petrol AT.

Isn't it low? My Ecosport AT gave 10 kmpl in city, with a much heavier body, fatter tyres, more air drag, and a torque converter, which is less efficient than AMT.

The Figo is used with the AC on full time and returns around 10 kmpl consistently. Mileage is calculated tank full to tank full.
So the unicorn among the hatchbacks returns good FE Would love to see if there is more updates on the car.

This is the older DCT gearbox version of the Figo. Not the newer TC version, which is the one with unicorn status I believe. If there is something specific you would like to know about the car, ask away!

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Car: 2019 Tata Tiago Revotron
  1. City driving in heavy B2B traffic with AC: 8 kmpl
  2. City driving in heavy B2B traffic without AC: 11 kmpl
  3. City driving in moderate traffic with AC: 10 kmpl
  4. City driving in moderate traffic without AC: 13 kmpl
  5. City driving in low traffic with AC: 12 kmpl
  6. City driving in low traffic without AC: 14 kmpl
  7. Highway driving on single lane roads involving low speeds and frequent overtaking with AC: 12 kmpl
  8. Highway driving in double lane roads at moderate speeds with AC: 14 kmpl
  9. Expressway driving at speeds from 110 to 120 kmph with AC: 14 kmpl
  10. Expressway driving at speeds from 90 to 100 kmph with AC: 17 kmpl

All readings are measured using the tankful method as the MID readings are erroneous and exaggerated. After multiple calculations, I observed that the MID error was somewhat constant at 20% more than the actual efficiency.

I always drive in the City mode and never use the Eco mode. It dulls the response too much in an already average powered car. Driving in Eco mode inevitably ends up in revving the engine more to extract more power which ultimately delivers the same mileage as City mode. The only place where Eco mode can be used is on Expressways where one intends to cruise at constant speeds without much overtaking. Using it in traffic is not much feasible.

The AC takes a big toll on the efficiency as well as power especially inside the city. It's much higher than other cars in the segment.

Oops! Missed the model year.Yes, new one is the unicorn I was talking about. Glad to see DCT ford doing well in traffic!

If only they gave us TC automatic with their fantastic 1.5L Diesel motor!

Old update from our '14 Swift 1.3 Diesel :

Highway trip:
Distance: 350Km
Roads: Deserted, almost Nil traffic that day
Driving style: Aggressive acceleration, speed was within legal limits, 100-110 on the speedo.
People on board: 3 adults + luggage.
MID mileage : 21

This was the only time I felt that mileage was way too high

There are a couple of Suzuki's and a Hyundai in the family too, though not driven regularly by me, but it does offer a better competitive scenario. Another unsung hero is my friend's, Nissan Micra, first gen petrol, which is remarkably frugal.
Tata Diesel vehicle's, in our user experience, have always been frugal, even when we had our first gen Indica but consistency is not it's forte, as deteriorating part quality affects efficiency quite often.
For consistent fuel efficiency, over the year's and many thousands of kilometres, the honour has to be given to the Japanese engines ; particularly, the Suzuki's & the Honda's. The Hyundai petrol's are not as good as the Japs.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

S-Cross 1.3, August 2018, currently done about 29K Km. Overall mileage at approx 19Km/l.
AC is always on. The drive is about 60-70% on the expressway and the rest is usually not so crowded city conditions. Only once in a while, I go to Delhi to get stuck in traffic jams.
Average stats are as follows. This is tankful to tankful data on the Fuelio app.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

We have 2 cars used by my wife and me for office commute in Bangalore. We interchange our cars occasionally, so can list the fuel efficiency for each trip. There are few routes to each end point, which we vary depending on traffic, hence mentioned range for distance.

Commute 1: Whitefield to Electronic City (Bangalore) (Distance 55-60kms roundtrip) - 50% bumper to bumper traffic and 50% moving traffic.
Hyundai Grand i10 Automatic - 9.5-10.5kmpl
Maruti Baleno Alpha Manual - 12.5 - 13.5 kmpl

Commute 2: Whitefield to Kadubeesanahalli (Bangalore) (Distance 16-20 kms roundtrip) - almost 90% bumper to bumper traffic
Hyundai Grand i10 Automatic - 7-8 kmpl
Maruti Baleno Alpha Manual - 9.5-10 kmpl

This is across multiple runs on each route and 100% AC on. Includes some weekend travel within city, few out of town, highway travels.
