Honda city 5th gen Jan 2023 purchased manual VMT version gave me a mileage of 18.2 kmpl for a mumbai-goa-mumbai trip (1200 kms). AC on for all the time and speed restricted to 100 kmph

Usual speeds: 20-30 kmph in city. 80-90 Kmph on highways.

My general driving conditions are: AC always ON, City speeds are usually below 40 Kmph, Highway speeds are between 80 and 100 kmph, I fill and measure from tankful to tankful.

WagonR Vxi 1.2 AGS 2021 model: Bangalore drives give me 14 Kmpl and Highways eke out around 22 Kmpl. The maximum I've gotten was 24.5 Kmpl

Scorpio S4 2016 model: City drives give around 13 Kmpl and Highways usually give 16.5 to 18 Kmpl. The highest I've gotten was 18.25 Kmpl

RE bullet 350 2016 model: I usually get 36 to 38 Kmpl. Careful/highway rides give upwards of 45 Kmpl. Measured reserve to reserve.

Cars not with me anymore:

Kwid 1.0 2019 model: 11 Kmpl in the city and 18 on the Highways. Not at all frugal for such a tiny car

Mahindra Jeep 2003 model: 10 Kmpl in City & off road drives. 14 on Highways

Most of my highway drives are Hyderabad-Vijayawada.

Yesterday, I got the best FE Figures till date.



The peak I hit was 36.3 Kmpl just before I stopped at 7 for breakfast, which was about 130 km from my starting point.

This was at 7, Suryapeta



With 3 people and couple of bags, keeping the speeds at 70-80 kmph diligently seems to paid of well ( and of course, a difference in MSL of 520 metres too)

But still, I wonder if any other Engine could beat that !

Average Fuel Consumption: 10-14 KM/L in City (7-11 KM/L in Sports Mode driven enthusiastically), 14-16 KM/L on highway.

Bumper to bumper in Gurgaon to Delhi would entail 6-8 KM/L.

Fill Method: Tankful to Tankful
Average Fuel Consumption:

12-13 KM/L in City (Before clutch change)
14-15 KM/L in City (After clutch change)

14-16 KM/L on highway (Before clutch change)
17-18 KM/L on highway (After clutch change)

*Clutch changed at 65000 kms. Got about 2 KM/L extra after the clutch work. I hope to get similar figures going forward too

It is a Honda City for sure and his avatar confirms the same. The engine should be i-DTEC i.e. diesel going by the tachometer.

Nice. Did you check the tank-to-tank mileage? It must be around 27-28 km/l. Even I've seen similar MID figures on Honda WR-V diesel with the same diesel engine.

I generally refill after I complete Hyderabad-Vijayawada-Hyderabad and measure the FE by Tankful to Tankful method, which has been my routine for last 3 years.

The average difference in MID and Tankfull to Tankfull method comes around 1.5 to 4 km !

But I will check this time and update.

Also, since the return journey is an uphill ( a climb of 500m) , it is certain the FE will take a substantial hit.

So I completed the onwards journey to Hyderabad and the FE after Tankful method came to 27.5 kmpl while the MID showed 30.5 kmpl ( and this is with 5 people on board with packed luggage and 10 km traffic snarl till LB Nagar)

And this is simply exceptional, given the tire profile is upsized to 195/60 !

As a data science professional, I started tracking my Seltos's fuel efficiency numbers diligently on an iOS app. As we say, you cannot improve what you cannot measure.

A few highlights -

• Car - Seltos HTX 1.5 IVT
• Usage - 70% City, 30% Highway
• Average Fuel Efficiency = 11.5 KMPL
• Approx Cost / KM = Rs. 10
