Tested FE in this tankful method twice; the average FE is 20KMPL.

So, I am coming to the conclusion that the 2 arguments related to FE have some truth in them - very low fuel and and full-tank fuel causes lower FE. Keep refueling at 25% upto 75%.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Recently I did a ~1400 Km stretch in my Swift Vxi (1.3) and I measured through the Tankful to tankful method !

I filled up 3 times and it was 14.97, 14.3 and 14.6 Kmpl respectively with almost 75% AC!

The first figure was quite surprising since some distance was driven in City ; bumper to bumper and the highway part was quite done with high speeds ; averaging 90 kmph touching 120~130 at times and yet I got almost 15.

The other parts were done with sedate driving averaging 50-70 kmph and touching max 100 , though on semi-urban and rural roads and I got 14.5 and 14.2

The results are quite surprising and I am not able to gauge how F Efficient is my car on highways !

Assume you refueled from different pumps during your 1400KM journey. The surprise FE for spirited city driving and average FE for sedate highway driving means that the later 2 pumps are to be blamed. Their fuel filling may not be proper. My Swift 1.2 gives me above 20KMPL on sedate (50-70KMPH) highway driving.

That is really good FE for a petrol car weighing close to a ton. Credit goes to the newer K-series engine which is better in FE and even drivability.

In contrast, poised2drive's Swift has the old 1.3P engine (Esteem) which is bad in FE - we have one at home and I don't even bother checking FE (to avoid getting a heart-attack).
My 1.6P Baleno beats it hands down in FE and that too without any compromise on speed/FTD.

20 kmpl is a wonderful figure, but maintaining 50-70 kmph on highway needs tons of patience and austerity

I get around 11-12 kmpl in city and it is quite frustrating to see those 'decade old' figures that my dad used to get in his 118 NE .
Any specific tips - other than selling it off ' - to increase my FE considering your experience with the Engine !?

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

My observation from a recent trip with tankful-2-tankful measurement, my Fabia 1.2(P) returned ~17kmpl(30/70 - city/Highway) , 16kmpl(highway) and 15.5kmpl(10/90 - city/highway).

Car was running on AC all the time. With 5people and luggage on-board when it returned 17kmpl, it actually surprised me.

But my understanding is that Baleno is lighter than the old 1.3 Swift. Isn't it?

When I say highway, it is not an NH. My daily drive is through an empty highway-like road between Thirupporur and Chengelpet; there is no traffic, no signals, and not much speed breakers as well. Enjoying every bit of my daily commute.

Also, as I mentioned earlier, I like to see an instant FE figure of 30KMPL always in my MID

Some key stuff I follow on all cars :
- Identify a gas-station that is good on quality & quantity - requires some trial & error.
- Fill gas in the mornings, instead of later in the day.
- Maintain the right tyre pressure & check regularly (I use a car-battery operated compressor). Helps with avoiding trye wearout too.
- Drive predictively - based on traffic/signs/hazards ahead. No point racing to a red-light and then braking - wears out brakes too.
- Driving in right gear, avoiding clutch-play, etc etc.

Dont want to go OffTopic in this thread - check out the tips on increasing efficiency in this thread http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/owning...fficiency.html

More or less the same. Baleno is 985kg. Dont have the Swift spec handy, but a quick google says 980kg for LXi. Vxi and Zxi would be a few kgs heavier.

Back from a trip to Kukke, Dharmasthala, Udupi, Karwar and my native Sirsi.

Car: month old Verna Fluidic 1.6 SX CRDi

Total trip odo reading :- 1650 Kms
Total diesel consumed :- 89 litres (43 + 46)
Mileage achieved :- 18.53 kmpl (with ac on 90% of the time) calculated via tank full method.

Now this was on a combination of NH, SH, semi urban patched roads, ghat sections, no roads etc.

Very happy with the mileage figures.

What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Polo GT TSI
KM= 2015
Fuel= Speed97 with adon p
I'm getting 7.5 in city total.
Sometimes it goes to 10 If the roads are clear.
Traffic kills the economy. I've seen as low as 2km/L. Attachment 1336480
