| ![]() Baleno 2006, 80000 kms. City mileage normally is around 9-10 kmpl, and highway mileage is around 12-13kmpl. I went for a trip to shimla-mashobra, and while coming back it was making some noise while braking, so I decided that I will drive very smoothly with as little braking as required. So over the next 400km, with around 130km of hill roads (where only 2nd-3rd gears were used), the Baleno gave a mileage of around 20kmpl. The speeds in the plains were generally maintained around 80-95kmph. This is the highest mileage I have ever gotten out of this car. I realised that all one has to do is to be light on the throttle; quick acceleration, and quick deceleration are the bane of mileage; and best of all, I don't think I reached more than 15-30 min later than what I would have otherwise taken, with far lesser strain because mentally I knew I was not speeding and could drive in a relaxed manner (especially in the hills, where with my regular style of driving, I am just jumping with adrenalin after any drive). Cut down on any urge to overtake, or accelerate even with an open road. 3 people on board, luggage, and no ac (only heater used). with windows down (am sure, drag is an issue over really long drives, and is something we should mention). | ![]() 2011 Fiat Linea T Jet Plus Odo : 10300km Driving Conditions : 20% City, 80% Highway on the last tank full. The highway bit being a rip and drive style. AC : 100% Fuel Type : Normal petrol Average : 10.29Kmpl Driving Conditions : 90% State highways with a unsteady throttle. Used maximum throttle between gears several times too. AC : 100% Fuel Type : Normal Petrol Average : 11.43kmpl Driving Condition : 100% Cochin City in peak hour. AC : 100% Fuel Type : Normal Petrol Average : 8.33kmpl (Weep, that too after just servicing the car) Driving Condition : 100% Highway. Half a tank of fuel took me 285km with a light foot on the throttle and speeds not exceeding 100Kmph as it was state highways. The remaining half with very harsh throttle inputs. AC : 100% Fuel Type : Normal Petrol Average : 11.85kmpl All readings tankful to tankful. Not from the Multi Information Display. |

![]() I did not check the MID at all. I used to just flip through the MID to check the trip meter. If I recall correctly the numbers for average fuel consumption was close to the numbers I put up. Will pay more attention next time. I normally keep the MID in just odometer mode.

![]() My Nano gives me constantly between 17.86 to 19.XX KMPL with AC at all times. I normally drive in the "Eco" mode and rarely overspeed the car. I am pretty sure that without the AC, it may just cross 22 KMPL; However, I am not so fussy about the last 4 KM's ![]()

![]() Car : i20 petrol Usual FE in city is 14.5-17.8 kmpl Method : Tank full to tank full , usually from the same petrol pump. On a recent trip (Gurgaon-Dehradun-Landour-Gurgaon) of 680 Km, got a FE of 16.42 kmpl. Was surprised as had driven to landour with 5 people and in 1st gear for the tough inclines there.

![]() I had been to Hampi and Goa during the Christmas holidays. This time I managed to wring 14.5 km per liter from the Safari. With the price of diesel going up again - every month - it would be worth our while to conserve some fuel. Some tips of improving mileage http://www.madrasi.info/fuel-economy.php

![]() Fiesta Classic 1.4 Diesel. Tank filled to the brim, DTE=731=16.24 kmpl. Last 300 kms consists of urban inching/sub-urban traffic with ~40% AC. So my unsolicited advice: If you are majorly driving on the urban crawl, the DDiS will return better FE. The Ford's 1.4 motor is more suited for the highways, where you can enjoy both better handling as well as 20+ FE figures. Last edited by ramzsys : 19th January 2013 at 08:23.

![]() Honda City 2010 Started using petrol from BPCL Godrej Petrol Pump, Vikhroli (earlier I was using IOCL Bhawani Petrol Pump, opposite IIT). AC usage decreased because of weather, however, a lot more 1-2 gear drive due to traffic. The mileage during the last full tank fill was 15.3 kmpl, which is the highest since 4 months. It beats the average that I got during Diwali and year-end holidays, when the traffic was smooth, with hardly any 1-2-3 gear drives.
