Thanks Aroy! I too thought about this but wasnt too sure if it could actually bump up the FE by about 1.5kmpl. Now I am much wiser!

Maybe you could add the above point (in case it is not already present) in the general car maintenance guide. This could be a key factor that many might be over-seeing. Imagine driving around the city with a bad battery for a month. In about 5000 km, one would have consumed enough addtional petrol to cost equivalent to a new car battery!

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Safari Dicor - Mileage in city : 8-9 km /l
Highways: 12-14 km/l (AC on always) I always drive as if my tail is on fire. Still my mileage is low compared with others who claim about 16km on the highways.

How can your mileage be good if you "always drive as if your tail is on fire"?

What I meant was earlier I used to get better mileage until they upgraded the firmware in the ECU.

Not nitpicking, but just to inform you, Chandigarh Patiala road is a national highway. Earlier it used to be NH64 but now I think its been changed to NH7
Appreciate this, Thanks. I was not aware of it.

Patiala -> chandigarh. Road is Ok, but traffic is crazy, single lane undivided highway, slow moving traffic pouring from newly settled colony, educational institutes etc.

On a very recent highway trip, I was pleasantly surprised to get 16.7 kpl from my 2008 Corolla 1.8. Maintained speeds between 80-100, and this has been the best mileage figure in the ownership. OT, the trip on Corolla costed cheaper than my Scorpio.

The mileage is good for a safari, but I hope ur tail being on fire in a safari doesn't give other road users a heart attack :-)

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

One more round of full tank to full tank check:
Distance covered - 454 km
Petrol topped up today - 31.58 l
Mileage - 14.37 kmpl
Mileage shown by the car's odometer - 17.5 kmpl (21.7% variance)

Over 90% of the drive is during peak traffic times, mostly with AC on (not full blast).

This is 1-2 kmpl above average, because of driving on almost empty roads during Diwali vacations. I had given the car for servicing yesterday, I don't know how much petrol was consumed during this. I expect the mileage to improve after this servicing.

Sure. Trust me - I have been driving for 2 decades. About the Safari mileage - TSK Saab and some other Safari Aficionados are getting better mileage. May be I carry a lot all the time.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

2012 Honda city
4 months old. 7900 km covered

Goa doesn't have your typical start stop big city traffic so i would just add overall figure obtained from the city's on board computer(subtract 1kmpl due to computer error) on 70% Goan highways and rest in the towns of panaji,vasco,margao....for the last 500km .

Mileage obtained by driver.
17 kmpl overall(100% AC)

23 kmpl for a 70km pure highway trip with moderate traffic.(100% AC)

Mileage obtained by me.
11.2 kmpl(100 % AC)

driver drives sedately, upshifts at optimum rpm.I drive how the vtec should be driven.

2011 Ford figo 1.2
19 months old. 15000 km covered
Car is hardly used,200km per month at most so calculating using only half tank method.
car driven sedately by mother mostly, not pushed at all.

16 kmpl (50% town and 50% highway) 10% AC.
