Great explanation there Manju!
This is the way to actually drive the car and then explain it. Kudos!!

That will also sort out many who thinks Swift returns poor mileage.

I shift it to 5th when I hit around 50 & never bothered whether I would be able to maintain it for next 2 kms. Thanks, I will try to follow this.

If it's more than 33 psi, I feel the car bumpy.

Is there any reason why one shouldn't shift to 5th gear otherwise? I think, it will stress the clutch more due to more frequent change, but FE should always be better (unless one tries to accelerate in 5th from low speeds).

Ikon 1.6 FE

Hey guys, don't mean to interrupt the ongoing conversations, but here's my FE and driving habits/areas:

When I first got the vehicle (used, @30k on odo), I used to get horrible mileage (8-9 kmpl city), even after servicing. After a K&N intake, iridium plugs, and now an E68, I'm up to around 11 kmpl in city. I never go out on the highway, and the only sort of 'highway' driving I do is on the ring roads!

My driving habits in the city? Not very fuel efficient at all! (not that I'm proud of it) I'm always revving away if there's a clear stretch....I actually use engine braking, sometimes around corners....and rarely use higher gears to drop the rpms at a given speed....

but even after all that....I guess it is a dam' miracle that an Ikon 1.6 is giving me 11 kmpl!

I still haven't tried acetone, and I'm waiting till Jan to get engine work done. Will update when I do!!

Hi

my Palio S10 1.6 gives me 8-9 KMPL in Hyderabad City traffic, at some places its, bumper to bumper drive, where ever i get a chance i l drag it like anything.

it normal drive conditions it gives me 10-11 KMPL

on highway, constant 2500-3000 RPM it gives me 12 KMPL.

the other Palio 1.6 user said its reasonable.

Update in Fuel efficiency of Alto Lxi

I guess let me explain some of the conditions ...
.................................................. ..
While if I am using my Alto I can put it in overdrive only after I hit 65 kmph otherwise it just doesn't pickup speed... do other Alto users also experience this?
I recently got my Alto Lxi serviced at Motorcraft (Noida) (3rd free service)... all thanks to Team BHP members recommendation on Maruti service stations in Noida ...

Now the fuel efficiency has improved significantly... also the earlier problem of the car not pulling in overdrive has been solved ... I can now engage overdrive at 55-60 kmph

Filled 26.8 litres of IOC Premium for travelling 519 kms on the trip meter ... This works out to FE of 19.36 Km per litre ...

or Rs 1242 (at 46.35 Rs/litre) for 519 kms which is just Rs 2.4 per Km

which is just too good ... I can now appreciate why Alto is the highest selling car in India ...

Petra Mileage

Guys,

Last week I did Mumbai - Hyderbad on Petra 1.6. Got the tank filled up (40 ltrs) at Expressway and did 664 kms with petrol warning sign still not lit up. That means 8-9 ltrs was still there. That works out to be atleast 16kms/ltr.
