Santro XG '05

100% City Driving
AC ON 50% of the time
Shell Normal Petrol
Shell Petrol Bunk; Old Madras Road
14.31 (Measured Tankful - Tanful)

100% Higway Driving
AC ON 100% of the time
Shell Normal Petrol
Shell Petrol Bunk; Old Madras Road
16.5 (Measured Total Tankful - Drive - Tankful)

Do you guys think 16.5 is an OK figure considering that speeds were between 100-110 most of the time?

Can you please confirm about this? I wat told by some of the other guys in the Team-BHP that K&N filter only improves the performance but reduces on FE for esteem 2004 vxi. Is that true? What have you got to tell me about that?

highway FE : 15 km/ltr

Guys is Baleno Vxi less efficient than Lxi ?

or is Baleno BS-III less efficient than BS-II ?

Well The Car's Baleno
Mileage - 10000km ( Just completed 3rd service)
Tyres - 195/60 r14
Air filter - K&N Stock (Element Exchange only)
City FE: 8.34 km/l. ( Filled it to the brim drove for 75 km and filled up to the brim and it drank 9 litres)
Fuel used; speed97 (BPCL MG Road)

I drive a mixture of sedate driving in the mornings (drive and gearshifts in about 2000rpm and generally stick to 4th and 5th and come to third or lower only when absloutly neccesary) and moderately spirited driving while driving back home @9pm and above.

Guys, Is there something wrong??? I am very disappointed with the mileage.

Expect a better number after sometime. Can't really blame your car. Blame your driving condition.

Question: Why Speed 97? Are you getting anything extra???

You should get a shade more - 9.5 city and 15.5-16 highway, but a lot depends also on how you drive and traffic conditions at the time.

Various factors are involved.

1) Change the way you measure FE. Do not fill to the brim (apart from inaccuracies, there are other problems due to doing this). Instead stop filling when the pump nozzle auto-cuts off.

2) After filling up till auto cut off, run the car till the tank is atleast 1/2 full (1/4 is even better). Do not check FE after running for a few kms.

3) Your wider tyres (stock Lxi is 165/80R13) could have an effect on reducing FE (not much, but still significant).

4) K&N filter - I hear conflicting reports on this. Some say it increases FE, others say it reduces. I am no expert on this.

5) How you drive also matters. Riding the clutch, shifting at high rpms, unnecessary idling etc also contribute to low FE.

I have a Baleno Lxi. Gives me 12kmpl in Chennai city and 16kmpl on highways (both with 100% AC).
