Ok... now I am not sure about how to put this. I decided to seriously test the FE of my Indica after almost a year of its purchase (actually 8 months). Well, after taking the reading (tankful to tankful basis) it seems to be giving me a whopping 18kmpl in the grinding traffic of Hyderabad city with intermittent AC usage. :-/

Ok... ok... naysayers... hold it. I myself am still a little bit befuddled with the figures. Will check once more by the weekend and confirm.

Is it a diesel version? Because it might be true.
My moms Indica also gives some impressive FE specially considering the way car is used

Thats right Adya, it is a diesel version. The thing is we have another V2 diesel in the family but that one is a 2003 model. I am habituated to it returning a fantastic 15kmpl in city (ok so the AC is very rarely used on that one).

However what has me stumped is that the salesman's sales pitch ("sir, expect much better mileage with the BS-III version bcoz of its ECU, sensors, EGR, slightly retuned engine blah blah blah") actually seems to be proving right!

Particularly when I consider my everyday hi-tech city run across the city with the 2nd - 3rd gear drive (and frequent crawls on 1st as well) and regular halts on signals the FE I noted is something I myself am finding difficult to swallow. I need to check this during the next top-up.

Oh! So you actually are getting this kindda FE, is it? Then it must be ok... I actually made a posting yesterday about how I seriously noted the FE for the 1st time and was amazed to get back a figure of 18kmpl!!! I thought I probably made a major jhol in noting the figures somewhere (or rather the pump attendant lady was fiddling with the auto-cut and caused it te get released early).

Still will note it again on the next top-up to be sure.

We get 16-17kmpl in delhi traffic with 2002 indica. AC sparingly used due to winters

2. Sensible driving all the way from Aurangabad to Mumbai (No AC, in that cold yuo could be kidding me) Reliance petrol - 16 kmpl.

More later. I am a bit taken aback.

My Corsa 1.4, 2003 gives 8 to 9 in Bangalore office time trafic. Haven't seen much difference with or without the AC.
Got upto 10 with AC, while driving in good roads and minimal traffic.

My Corsa 1.4 sedan - 7000 KMs old - returned 16kmpl ( about 360 KMs in 22.5 litres ) on my trip to mumbai. This i guess, is good enough for a car like Corsa.

@kkaviraj - my corsa returns about 11kmpl with AC and 12 kmpl without AC in city - this with a mixed mode of driving.
My father's corsa ( 2 yr old, 50k kms driven, and he has a light foot ) returns about 12 kmpl with AC in city.

My 2.8L GTI has so far given me a best of 30miles per gallon. Worst I've got is 10mpg, while drive at 120mph. My display shows fuel consumption at the speed i'm driving and the total fuel consumed in the trip. Well the lowest was actually 15mpg when i was really pushing. But the lowest displayed ever was 10mpg consistently for atleast 1 minute, coz it keeps changing every 30 yards which is not much at 120mph.
