Senior - BHPian ![]() | ![]() Mileage in my stock 2004 zen. City: I don't even bother. And I'm not going to take any pains in finding out and depressing myself. Highways: 17.5 at speeds in excess of which cannot be typed here. ![]() For decent highway driving it should give 19-20kmpl. |

| ![]() No modifications - Done 1150 km now (in total) Last mileage recorded on tank full to tank full method - KM 574.5 - Petrol 49.21 - Mileage 11.68 kmpl. Additive IFTEX G recommended by GM used 1 ml per litre of petrol regularly (IFTEX OIL & CHEMICALS LTD.) Driving Trends- Daily Gurgaon Driving of 4 km to and fro to office = 8 km * 17 days = 136 km (avg speed 40-50 kmph on 4th gear, 2 red lights with 30-45 secs stopping) - 100% AC used 2 round trips to parents house in Delhi = (35 km * 2) * 2 trips = 140 km (avg speed 40-80 kmph - 20 km on Gurgaon-Delhi expressway NH8 - good driving conditions, smooth roads only 3-4 redlights with max 30-45 mins stoppage, 80% AC used - switched off in b/w as car became too cold) 1 round trip to neemrana = 200 km (Delhi Jaipur Highway - 60% AC used, 4 people in the car) Driving around Gurgaon to malls etc (General driving) - no stretch is greater than 15 km in one go = 72 km (100% AC used) Question to all? 1) Is this mileage good for a new Optra 1.6 LT under the driving conditions mentioned? 2) I have read that when driving distances are short - the car never reaches its optimal temprature which is why mileage for my daily office runs may be lower so therefore on long drives I may achieve even better mileage - Is this conclusion correct? 3) How much will my mileage increase after first and second service? |

| ![]() I have a fabia 1.4Mpi at 10300kms and city average has been around 10.5kpl with premium (mostly IOC) fuel. Took a trip out of town last weekend (Kodai). Available KM onboard was showing 120 when I got a full tank before leaving. This was at BP Airport road (speed). 30.3 L at Rs.1683 was filled and I began. 500 kms odd later I refuelled to full tank again in TN (having covered 90kms in ghats and 200+ on SH). This time got 35.2L for Rs.1827 at IOC (premium). Return journey was 650km odd, with 185kms on hill roads, 300 on SH and 170 on NH. Reached bangalore with onboard showing 140 range left. So net 65.5L petrol used in 1150+ kms. Thats over 17.5kmpl, over varied roads, long periods in towns and hills. Makes me truly smile! |

I believe this calculation is a bit flawed. The "available km reading" is only an estimate, which I think is based on the FE figure since the tripmeter was last reset (This is the case in the cars that I have seen; but I am not familiar with the Fabia, so I do not know if this is really the case here). Therefore an "available km reading" at the start of a highway trip (preceeded by city drive) and the same reading at the end of a highway trip signify different amounts of fuel left in the tank. What one should do is fill the tank at the end of the journey; total fuel usage is then this amount plus the 35.2 L filled earlier.

I had updated my earlier (two weeks ago) astronomically hight fuel efficiency (27+ in highwayy and 23.4 in combined to and fro) in my Linea MJD. Last weekend I did 120-140 Kmph in the multilanes (most of the distance) overtaking everybody on the way and 80 Kmph in single lanes (average quality road) and it still gave me 18.3 Kmpl (three adults plus one child, full AC at 23 C, home to home). This probably completes my fuel efficiency testing on my car in various speeds and loads. I will stop bragging about my super mileage hereafter ![]()
