Dzire VDI 2008--I get about 17 in the city with occassional A/C use and about 18-19 in the highways, again with A/C. I touch 140--160kmph regularly in the 4 lane hjigh, so I guess my FE is not great, but I love the feeling of being at 160!

in city it gives me an average of about 13 to 14kmpl and on the highway i get an average of 18+
both with 100% AC usage.
got a best of 23kmpl with 100% AC on the highway.

Hi. I am having a 800 5 speed. 2002 with just 19000kms. on odo,Igot it 2nd hand last year.
I get JUST 11 KMS in city driving without AC and very careful driving like as follows.This test done 3 to 4 times by top up of petrol.About my driving habits and experience, I am driving for the last 39 yrs.

Switching Off the engine at traffic lights.
No AC used at all.
speed maintained at 50 kms.at an average.
No harsh acceleration.
No sudden braking and abruptly stopping.
Wheels are free.
Tyre pressure maintained.
Nothing seems wrong with MPFI as car starts in first self in the morning.
Synthetic engine and gear oil used.
Wheel alighnment and balancing done recently when tyres were replaced.
Gurus pls guide what is wrong and where????????? what to do to get that 16.-18 kms /ltr

Honda City 2009 VMT: around 13-14 kmpl (actual not the readings on the meter).
Alto K10: 12kmpl (Still waiting for the 1st service and this tank has seen a lot of city driving)

Baleno 2003--I get about 15 in the city with regular A/C use.
No switching off engine at traffic lights
Tyre pressure regularly maintained (30 PSI)
Never go above 70 Kmph.
No unnecessary overtaking
Fill regular petrol only at select petrol bunks

My 1997 Opel Astra 1.6 GL gave a lifetime average fuel consumption of 8.92 Km/l (all the fuel that was ever put in / total distance covered). This of-course includes fuel stolen at various garages and some really spirited highway driving (how does 1h 45m sound between Vikhroli and Aundh - I know I shouldn't have!), maybe with 20% A/C on as the A/C never really worked in my car.

The best was 18 Km/l on Mumbai-Pune highway without A/C, and maintaining a constant ~90 Km/h speed. It was mentioned in the car user manual for Opel Astra that the best mileage was at 90 Km/h (from memory: a claimed 20 Km/l, which I almost achieved).

My brand new, week old 2010 Mitsubishi Cedia Sports gave me 10.64 Km/l, for the first tank-full, which, I gather from these forums isn't all that bad. But that's with extremely careful driving. I hope there will be some improvement as time passes by.

1) Don't switch off at traffic lights, unless it is for more than 10 mins. You are actually wasting fuel each time you start the engine.

2) Average speed doesn't count for much. Just a brief sprint at 100 Km/h (in an 800) can ruin the average fuel consumption figures.

10 mins is way too much. I think a stop of more than a minute we can switch off the engine. When starting the car, i think only the battery is used more for the starter motor and there is no extra fuel burned.

My Indica Xeta GLG(1.2) gives me around 10kmpl in city and around 15 kmpl on Highways. AC is always ON. I am using regular HP petrol.

Alto gives me 13 in city and around 17 on Highways.

@DrunkenMonk, You'd definitely consume more fuel idking for 9 minutes than starting up. Several new cars (including M&M microhybrid Scorpio) actually turn themselves off when they stop more than a few seconds. They automatically the moment one depresses the clutch. This itself could result in 5% gain in FE, in congested city roads.

There is something seriously wrong!. I used to get 20+ with my 2006 800.

Did you check if
1. Air Filter is clogged.
2. Injectors clogged
3. Bust Induction coil
4. If spark plugs are clean

Please let us know. Also, this ought to be in a new/dedicated thread. Please notify the mods so that you may be heard better.

Does Xeta comes in 1.2?? My brother has Xeta and it is 1.4 (Peugeot engine), I guess Vista only comes in 1.2.

Jazz is a wonderful car for hypermiling. In order to get maximum fuel efficiency, one needs to be light footed, accelerate gently and ensure that RPM remains at 2000 or less. One could easily engage the 5th gear at 45-50 kmph. There is continuous readout of instantaneous and average fuel consumption and that helps one to adapt the driving style to optimise FE. Although I have found that the instrumentation is over-optimistic by about 7% when compared to actual fugures from tank to tank.

On highways, I keep maximum speed down to 80-85 kmph, and restrict hard acceleration only for occasional overtaking. In 5th gear the car just likes to coast even on the mildest slopes.

In city keep it going in 3rd, 4th and 5th gear as much as possible. Turn the engine off at any redlight showing more than 15 seconds to go. Plan non-congested routes.

Doing the right things and the right way, it is capable of consistently delivering more than 20kmpl on highways and 15 kmpl in city. I make this claim after driving the car for than 10,000 km.
