sure it is refined. I recently took a test drive of the Laura and I was turned off by the engine clatter. Fiesta TDCI is better than the Laura TDI in refinement.

This is off-topic. You could probably take a look at this thread for my Long Term report, and put your questions there.

You can also get the Dzire within 5.5L I guess. Only if you consider it as a sedan

I heard that they did a special scheme for their employees before the recent facelift happened in July. Quite steep discounts, I believe. May be they are doing another one again.
While the news on the Ikon 1.4 TDCI diwali launch seems to be confirmed from many quarters, the news on the Fiesta 1.6 TDCI is more muffled. With the Ikon having even better rear seat comfort, it will certainly cannibalize Fiesta Diesel Sales. I wonder what Ford has in mind.

That was an option but seeing the waiting period I had to rethink

Hmm.. I too am in the same boat.. Getting a car for my parents... The problem is that I almost like every car :-).. The latest in the list is the ikon. But I'd be buying the car before end of October and I dont want to end up buying the older version when the new ones release is so close.. But having said that I have to buy the car before I leave India again or else my parents will be happy to drive around the 10 yr old 800 to save "my money" :-(!!!

Well I got to say if the 1.6TDCi Fiesta gets launched it's going to be a stonker. An awesome engine and a good performance/mileage too.
Check the specs below of the Ford engines marketted in UK with the Fiesta, there is a significant difference between the 1.4 and 1.6 Duratorq engines. I only hope Ford opens it's eyes and launches a 1.6TDCi along with the Ikon TDCi launch.

The 1.6 is only 90 PS? That's 22 bhp down on the 1.5 Verna unit.

Yes that's what the European manual specifies, in terms of Torque the 1.6TDCI has 200 Nm @ 1750 rpm which translates approx 20 Kgm, the Verna has 24 Kgm @ 1900 ~ 2750 rpm. The higher torque/bhp output in the Verna might be attributed to the VGT present in that engine.

The surprising thing is that both engines seem to have similar 0-100 values.

That's right and it still has a pretty good mileage figure. And coupled with the Fiesta's good handling capabilities it would be a darn good vehicle. I hope Ford gets sense and plan to launch this engine.

Drive the existing Fiesta Tdi, that itself is unmatcheable on highways. I know verna is much better than this, but look at the safety features that Fiesta offers at that price. So with the same features in a 1.6 engine if launched would be a better bet than spending only on the engine that verna provides.
