Fiat 500, in another setback, gets 3-star safety rating!

"The slow-selling 2012 Fiat 500 now has another obstacle in its sales path: It has been tagged by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration with a three-star safety rating, the lowest of any new model tested so far.

The two-door subcompact received four stars from NHTSA for frontal crash and rollover accidents but received just two stars for side-impact crash safety, the agency announced on its Web site, safercar.gov."

Thanks for sharing. However, it is important to highlight that the car received:
  • A "Top Safety Pick" for 2011, from IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety).
  • The IIHS does rigorous crash testing as well.

Re: Fiat 500 Launch- 18th July - Now Launched

I also spotted a red coloured FIAT 500 in Santacruz (W) area, near Podar High School. Sorry I do not have pictures because by the time I got my cell phone camera out the car was gone. I did not see the registration number but I did see that there was a family in the car. I want to ask one thing - Has the car been launched in India or was it just a FIAT official I saw in the car? Do these guys import such cars or what?

The fiat 500 was officially launched by FIAT a couple of years ago. It doesn't sell because of the crazy price tag(import duties and stuff) and the not so great brand value of FIAT.

Re: Fiat 500 Launch- 18th July - Now Launched

I saw the Fiat 500 in person yesterday at Him Motors (a white one with the orange / green strips running all along). The interior space is more than a Beetle (one of my clients owns TWO new Beetles!) and I daresay the 500s 75 HP MJD is a little more practical than the Beetles 2.0 L petrol . All said and done, I wondered why this car was not a better than the Beetle, being priced at Rs 15 Lakhs instead of the Beetles Rs 22 Lakhs.

Another thing, the engine bay is packed and then some!

I own a fiat 500 (petrol ) here in Dubai and I love the way it handles.
Its real fun to drive.

Fiat should have manufactured the vehicle in India which should have brought down its cost to less than 10 Lakhs and its a real steal for that money

Can you share the engine specs. and the tyre / rim sizes it is running on. In India, it is selling with 185/R14 alloys and a 75 HP / 190 Nm multijet diesel engine.

That said, this car was always meant to be an exotic as 2+2 kids seater hatchbacks don't sell in India.

Re: Fiat 500 Launch- 18th July - Now Launched

Hi Guys,

I still have my lovely Fiat 500 here. I really enjoy it because of its size, it just goes everywhere !! Although I would had loved to have the 1.4 petrol which Praveen has in Dubai or even the super-fast Abarth 500 which I had rented for 2 weeks in U.K. but the 75 BHP diesel is much much refined than its Indian version used in Swift and India (If I am not wrong).

Architect - the wheels are 15 inches not 14, only the spare is 14 inch (they call it the space saver wheel, to be used only for temporary use)
In my opinion way better than the TOO BIG beetle (which in my opinion would had looked real nice if it was the size of the mini or the 500)

I would agree with others although a very good car, Fiat service is not good at all. My passenger side door window motor went bust, so I had to import it myself as HIM motors are useless in Delhi.

Any chance at all of this being Re-Launched in India? Perhaps in Auto transmission this time?

Ask me about it. I wanted to gift this car to my wife. I would have loved the dual logic auto box. I said to myself, "never mind, buy a manual one. She should be fine". Then I mailed to the Dealer in kerala (in Cochin the only one who is apparently authorized by Fiat to sell it in the state. I didn't call because I was in Europe at that time and also didn't want sales rep to call me to sell an Indica Vista now and then. No surprises, the agent didn't reply after 2 mails. Then I decided to complain to Fiat. Went to their website to put it up. Guess what the web page told me? "Server Busy, Please try after sometime" . I didn't want to risk it anymore. I don't want to gift a nightmare to my beloved wife and get later

It is a Abarth "Ferrari" edition! The only one in India. I am told of the existence of a plain Abarth in Coimbatore. The Ferrari edition is an official import, not through Fiat India. Very limited production rumor says it has cost thrice as much as the regular 500. But the car rocks! I had a chance to hear its rev note at the supercar show.

i own a 500 myself.
