an Autocar article in Hindustan Times said....

"On the downside, the improved interior still isn’t a Civic-beater in terms of design flair or quality. This Corolla appeals to the head rather than the heart. It’s a good car for the chauffeur-driven but not as special as Toyota would have liked it to be."

Ride quality (better suspension ?) is much better in Altis compared to Civic. I drove altis AT for about 70km and could really feel the difference.

Toyota seems to emphasize ride quality compared to Honda. And they have been successful with that emphasis.

Toyota have succeeded on a lot of fronts where quality, comfort and safety are concerned. Altis may not be as fizzy as Civic but it does have a class.

After having driven both cars. For me it is the Altis GL.

Altis is way way better interms of efficiency, maintainence and all in all, you dont need to worry about the underbody scraping all time. Civic is good for highways which are straight, plain, fast. But no-way for city ride.
Altis should be the one to be chosen.

Since 1 month has already elapsed , anybody knows how much they have sold in last month ?

Would look forward to compare it with sales of Civic and how people have accepted the Altis which is surely a better value for money with more features as compared to the civic.

Personally , I have seen it on the road only, the exteriors were quite good except to those red lights on the back bumper, those gave me a very cheap car feeling just like SX4 ! and in the pics , interiors don't appear to be anywhere close to civic's interiors.

180KM, all over the city, all potholes, bumps etc over the worst I can expose it to in this city. Fully loaded most of the time and zero underbody hits.

Civic GC problem is overblown. You shouldn't blame the car if it beaches on the mountains on Bangalore roads (You don't ever call them bumps if a damned SX4 beaches on them). Unless you own one and have consistent problems with it on reasonable roads, please don't spread misinformation.

As a VFM buy I would definitely pick the Corolla.
If priced similarly, it would depend on the needs.
For a comfortable everyday no nonsense car, it is the corolla. For a fun to drive car, it is the Civic.

For me, its the Altis GL version simply because...

1. It has got much better features and is more value for the buck.
2. Better ride quality
3. Toyota's much better service quality & standards compared to Honda
4. Much better pulling power at low speeds (i.e. in the city)...important for everyday commute.
5. In these days of energy crisis, the Toyota engine is quite more fuel efficient.

Had the opportunity of seeing first Altis in black today and looks really good. However i still think Civic looks more sporty and Altis looks more solid. Civic's interior also looks better. I will pick Civic if i just want looks and interior.

A black Altis? I don't think it is available yet. Are you sure it wasn't a Camry?

Positive. Camry is huge in comparison. The car had a yellow sticker in place of number plate so i presume it must be either a test car or going to the showroom.

It is Altis for me as well! Test drove one couple of weeks back. Overall it is a good package and would remain exclusive for couple of years you see way too many Civics now a days!

Corollas have their own market and it should sell like hot cakes once again.
