Though the current DI is turbocharged to give a better top end, the original DI is a serious, no-nonsense work-horse. No wonder we see Boleros everywhere in the countryside.

re: Highest reading on the odometer!

1991 HM Contessa: 375,000 KM - Almost every part that can be changed, had been changed over the course of 14 years. Includes 2 overhauls too.

1996 Mercedes Benz W124 E220: 95,000 KM - Nothing out of the ordinary. Just regular expenses.

2003 Opel Corsa Swing 1.6 Limited Edition: 67,000 KM - Nothing out of the ordinary. Except, electrical circuit was changed (under warranty) and clutch plate was replaced (under warranty).

2003 Maruti 800: 5000 KM - Yes, it's 5K, not 50K. Must be a record for a 9 year old car!

re: Highest reading on the odometer!

Indica with over 5,25,000 kms is the highest odo reading I have ever seen! This was a cab we rented when on vacation to Shimla. The driver said it was the original engine and he had no issues except routine maintenance. That single incidence boosted the image of Tata motors and Indica up by a hundred notches in my eyes. 5L on those hills is really commendable. He took good care of his car and except visible aging, everything worked fine and surprisingly few rattles for a 10 year old.

I am happy to know someone who has driven lesser than me on M 800. My car was purchased in 1998 and sold in 2010 with just 19000 kms on the odo. No one believed it to be a genuine reading and it was difficult for me to sell the car.

re: Highest reading on the odometer!

We have a late 2000 model Indica DLX closing in on the 90,000kms mark. Still in good condition and gives around 15kmpl in the city without the AC. Absolutely love the car.

It's actually my grandparents car. They usually use it for their weekly shopping trip which amounts to 10 KM's. But a full service record is there, so it hopefully won't be an issue for us to sell it.

(10 KM X 52 Weeks = 520 KM. 520 X 9 years = 4680 KM.)

Well Tata cars can spring a surprise, sometimes. Contrary to the general trend, I have had some real nice experience with Tata Safari.

My last safari (TCIC) had notched up about 3,00,000 kms, with absolutely no issues.

And the current one (2.2 VTT) stands at 1,13,461 as of date. Again with no issues.
