About the specs....113Nm torque doesnt seem huge, but yeah its a 1.3 engine so pretty good but 87bhp is great. With those figures and the heavy weight of the car ....14 with AC On seems very much doubtful....10 kmpl seems reasonable (city).

My thoughts are also the same. 10 seems reasonable within city limits. 14 seems good for highways. Marketing guys can say anything about the mileage in India. When I went to buy my Palio, the Sundaram marketing guys were making a claim that Palio will give around 13-14 with AC in city limits. Ofcourse, I didn't believe them either. I am not really disappointed with the mileage that I am getting now. I get around 11 in the city. I expect Getz and Swift also to be in the same range.

Wasn't the car meant to be launched today?
It was there somewhere on Indiacar.com and Economic Times and even the dealers are saying that.
Someone please confirm.

The marketing guy at the showroom told me that it will give 14 in city road traffic conditions, to which I said, I really doubt that ( even though I do not know to figure out anything out of the specs) .

He game me an explanation on "why not" by comparing it with Esteem. Since I do not know anything about technical aspects, it did not went into my head. He was telling the car technically matches with Esteem & the weight of swift is lesser than Esteem, hence it will give solid 14 with ac ( Hey, this was told by that guy, I do not know whether the technical aspects match Esteem or Baleno or it does not match either)

Weight of swift is infact more than esteem by around 200 kg. That's why we are speculating that the mileage should be within the 10-11 range.

well, the car's launch has been delayed; the official launch has been postponed to the originally speculated date, i.e, may 27th- incidentally, the rumours of the launch coinciding with the release of the movie "bunty aur babli" , seem to be true after all;

and surprise, the specs have been posted earlier; and i don't think maruti will discontinue the zen-there are people who will buy the car, just for it's brand image; i have seen many guys raving about the zen- which is nice, but some of them even compare it to the palio, and , wait for it- the getz..!!! now, that's taking it a bit too far, don't you think- of course, most of these guys don't know much about cars- they have just 2 things in their priority list- F.E, and resale value; and zen does command a high resale value; most of the maruti products do, except the baleno.

so, all the potential zen (or wagon-r, 800, versa, etc.) buyers out there, fret not; maruti will not discontinue any of the models from their current line-up; at least not for another five years, anyway..!!

and yes, 14kmpl overall does sound a li'l optimistic, but the figures could well be true- the japs have always had an advantage over others on the efficiency front- be it engine, or fuel. but, like they say-the proof of the pudding is in the eating- let's wait and watch, shall we..??

I think..

it would be gud for atleast 12 -13kmpl and is a decent enuff average as 10-11kmpl would not give that psychological advantage over the getz... i feel

And in the road tests,if it comes out on top of Getz ( am sure suzuki guys would have had it as a reference for the performance/ features), am sure the SWIFT will be a runaway success. NOt to mention the unfair/huge advantage/image it has with respect to the service network.

But honestly...even if SWIFT beats Getz in terms of overall appeal/value, it would not be by a big margin and Getz is a decent car nonetheless.

The only way out for Hyundai would be to get the crdi ( both for santo and getz) and maybe a higher spec petrol engine for Getz to keep the competetion going.

And by the way Fabia is not making any noise..

Hurry Home

No point, it came out in 2000 and is past its half life, unless it can be sold very cheaply, there is no point setting up a line for this. My guess that the next gen fabia will come. Wonder what VW will make over here

yesssss,
thats what should be done.
phase out the M800,zen for now.this way sales of the alto and wagon r will improve.
as the sale sof wagon r increase, maruti can reduce its price further.
this way the swift ,wagon r and alto will not eat into each others sales.

honda did it to the OHC,toyota to the qualis.so why cannot maruti do it to its outdated cars.

As its already heavier than the esteem ,expect it to give lesser FE figures .
mabbe about 9-11 in the city and a max of 15 kpl on the highway

If they had plans for phasing out the Zen then they wouldn't have phased out the Alto 1.1 which was begining to eat into the Zen's share.
May be they want to encash their investements which they did on the new Zen.

Likewise there are chances that they might phase out Zen before Swift starts to eat out Zen's share. But these sort of decision is not easier as written. Let us wait and watch how these players take the game.

Yeah thats very well possible but in case of Alto, they phased out a new car(VXi) for an old car(Zen) :(

Swift price

Got a call from the Sales Manager of Maruti dealer. He started to read out the prices to me over phone, 4.25 for Lxi, 4.55 for Vxi & 4.8 for Zxi (ex show room prices). He added that he has got the prices from the head office & there will not be any change in this.

Earlier I had told him that if the prices are marginally higher I would prefer to go for Swift ( after seeing the vehicle).

He told that since the price difference is around 40K (on road), I could go ahead and release the payment for Zen.

I requested him to hold on till that prices are officially announced ( I guess it will be on the launch date). There are chances that It might hold true

Nice piece of info and hope it is the official one..

The base version is slightly expensive and the top end version slightly less than expected.

The on road price would be 11-13% of the ex factory prices rite...roughly...speaking..though it varies from state to state.

VW is reportedly thinking of making the Brazilian market Gol over here. IMO its an outdated product and will not create a good first impression for VW.
