But all three had white number plates (GJ registration). I thought they should have had temporary plates. Also, all were driven by white guys (Americans?).

They were on my opposite side. But in my RVMs, I did not see any black smoke from the exhausts. But that does not necessarily mean that there won't be diesel option at launch.
I too saw the test drive at Varthur- Gunjur. I saw a red Beat running as the pilot. Followed by a camouflaged sedan and the hatch. The sedan and hatch looked to be from the same platform. The hatch had high mounted tail lights. Sorry- no pics since I was driving on the opposite side.

re: SCOOP: Chevrolet Sail sedan caught testing. *Clear PICS on Page 9 & 11*

Slightly offtopic, I was speaking to some reliable source in a Chevy showroom and the person said that the Chevy SRV is going to make a come back soon after the Sail launches. He seemed really excited and added that the SRV is going to be a diesel sports version.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

Compact Linea spotted

While driving on the streets of Pune spotted an under trial vehicle. From the rear view mirrors it looked like a Fiat family vehicle. It was a compact sedan and possibly a Linea CS or a Punto notchback however you name it.

re: SCOOP: Chevrolet Sail sedan caught testing. *Clear PICS on Page 9 & 11*

The SAIL is really a Hatchback what India is waiting for & India deserves.
It seems to have got the right Ingredients:
-Nice & Modern looking Exteriors with Balanced proportions.
-Good looking, fresh & functional Interiors.
-Good engine options including Highly acclaimed 1.3 MjD/SDE Diesel engine.
-Heavy localisation content, as some its parts are also going to be shared with Beat.
-Healthy Brand, Dealership & AfSS Support.
-Quality Chevrolet badge & Engineering.

Only this leaves the Price factor to be left over as per Time(especially the rumored Green Tax) but as History speaks about Chevrolet, I expect this car to be Very Competitively priced for have the Huge Share to Premium Petrol & Diesel Hatchback segment.

1. It's a loooooooooooooooong car! Am sure it's gonna be quite spacious, probably in Vista league!

2. Why does the roof have to taper towards the rear, this may restrict space on rear for tall people.

3. Front over hang is a bit more than ideal I guess.

Going by the looks, I expect the sedan to clinch more sales [based on looks] if both the versions are priced sensibly.

@Tushky

Beg to correct you.

GM has a big plant at Talegaon and not at Chakan.

Had been to the plant about 6 months back for a meeting and its pretty impressive.

Seriously, I wonder why they didn't learn from Tata's mistake with the first gen Indica/go. Hate the position of the power window switches, as one has to take one's eyes of the road and also reach for the switch.

I actually liked the gear lever design. It looks a bit like the Skoda Laura's gear knob

I'm part of the most Liked it.

Sincerely hope they do start with the diesel option instead of a later introduction, and also sincerely hope that you are right about them being well priced (both sedan and hatch). Could really take off if priced well, because IMHO Chevy has a neutral public image, and most people seem to be willing to give them a chance. Chevy A.S.S is not too bad (though definitely not the best) and they certainly build quality cars.

Good catch, why cannot chevy provide pull type door handles, the one on the car looks and feels very outdated. Otherwise a neutral looking sedan, which is actually a good thing considering the latest trends and knowing chevy, the interiors would be pretty impressive too.

This should give good competition to manza, dezire and etios when it gets released.

This could be bit OT, but the new GM plant is in Talegaon Dabhade. (The Hindu Business Line : GM lays foundation stone for Talegaon plant)

re: SCOOP: Chevrolet Sail sedan caught testing. *Clear PICS on Page 9 & 11*

Is this sedan a replacement for Aveo (or Optra) and the hatch for Aveo UVA? Or won't they replace anything? Any idea?

The replacement of Aveo and U-VA are certainly help the dealers to clean up the space to park better cars.

I think they would replace the age old Aveo sisters for sure. And IMHO, the hatch which already looks very dated and too close to the Aveo U-VA will work no wonders for Chevy. But the sedan looks pretty decent and with our national engine under its hood may help post some decent numbers for Chevy in the segment.

Guys
At the same place I clicked snaps of the sedan below my flat, I spotted the hatch today. Similarly sparsely disguised. Was rushing to office so couldn't click many. I just managed one.
I'll click more if I see it today/tomorrow

I don't see how this car is any better looking than the Aveo Hatch it replaces ?
The Sedan version looks good and will compete well if priced right but the hatch i have to say is a rather sad looking car and doesn't really stand a chance with such wonderful modern hatchbacks in the Indian market.
