Nay idea how much excise duty is going to increase for cars with 1.3 diesel engine?

I just checked the features list of I20 and it seems have more features than Polo when you compare(1.2) all the varients .Now i feel Polo seems to be bit overpriced with 1.2 engine.VW seems to be gone wrong with price.

you would get a 6 airbag with sunroof and with some more features which is not present in polo for the same price with I20 (1.2).

I also noticed that only white color will be available for base variant.

Let's wait for GTO review for the final call.

Here is the i20 features

The diesel is priced a tad too high. 1 lakh rupee difference just for the engine is a little too much. I am thinking that VW is making all the profit on the diesel while the tredline petrol has been priced to keep the entry level price low.

@GTO: Your reviews are awaiting. Please post it ASAP. One request from my side. I am missing the high revving of engine in your review. When you do the review for POLO, please rev it hard from 2nd gear till 4th Gear. As I do it in my Palio 1.2. Polo 1.2 could replace my Palio 1.2

Heh, we have been saying this for a long time now. Even before the price announcement, the feature set was not matching up.

VW has been doing this even with the Jetta.. only selling Comfortline spec and at those prices..

Localisation seems to have no impact. What prices are these chaps selling cars in China at? They dont seem to be getting shortchanged.

I just called up the dealer in Ahmedabad. They dont have prices and they dont have a model to display. They are saying that the car will come only in March even for a dekho.

What the hell have they been doing since January when they started production of the car. They dont have the car ready at dealer's place even after its official launch.

It reminds me of GM of yester years when they used to launch a car and couldnt get the car to reach the dealers for weeks....

Guys after knowing the ex-show room prices for Delhi, I did some calculations to get approximate on road prices for Bangalore. And also did a comparision with Punto (got prices from Fiat india website) for Bangalore. I did this for Bangalore because I know road tax is at 14.3%. And typically ex-showroom price of Delhi to Bangalore differ by 2741 Rs across all models for Punto, so have added that much to Polo prices to arrive at exshowroom prices of Bangalore.

With the insurance and road tax being charged at a constant rate plus the dealers charges and the typical charges for ex-warranty these are the figures below. These are just approximate figures, dont go by these thou.

Polo

Did Swift reduce prices with different taxation?

I think VW has done a decent job here.

OFFICIAL PRICING

Volkswagen AG India has launched their first small car for India, the Volkswagen Polo. The prices for the Polo are as follows:

1200cc Petrol (all prices in ex-showroom, Delhi)

Trendline: Rs 4.34 lakh

Comfortline: Rs 4.83 lakh

Highline: Rs 5.72 lakh

1200cc Diesel (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi)

Trendline: Rs 5.32 lakh

Comfortline: Rs 5.81 lakh

Highline: Rs 6.70 lakh

The 1200cc petrol will be on sale from March while the diesel 1200cc is expected to be available later in the year.
The 1200c petrol is rated at 74 bhp @ 4500 rpm/11.2 kgm @ 3750 rpm while the diesel power/torque figures are - 74 bhp @ 4200 rpm/18.3 kgm @ 2000 rpm.

Both are 3-cylinder engines with 5-speed manual transmissions.

Following are the features on the Polo:

Trendline – Front power windows, power steering AC, body colored bumpers, central locking standard, 14 inch steel wheels

Comfortline – Height adjustable driver seat, 60/40 split rear seat, all power windows, 14 inch steel wheels

Highline – ABS, dual airbags, keyless entry, 15 inch alloys, MP3 player, front fog lamps, rear defogger.

This is seriously appealing pricing and is sure to fire up more excitement than when the Beat was launched. The Beat looked big and nice in pics, but when I actually saw it in flesh, it was but a slightly bigger version of the Spark. Polo on the other hand has a big car feel - big boot, tyres, and looks very nice -very European. I am planning to upgrade from my baby 800 and Polo definitely is at the very top of my list. Even the basic version, Trendline is pretty decently equipped unlike the Swift, i10 or i20. Good job VW.

I feel like Polo will have better build quality compare to Fiat, no rattles. Polo prices are killer, Punto 1.2 is out for sure.

I was not able to see the Kerb Weight of the vehicle anywhere. Can anybody confirm the Kerb Weight and Gross Weight of the vehicle.

Just think if VW gives better *** than its all rounder killer.

Now Fiat should do the good job to be in the Market.

The overall "package" can only be determined after validating their service network, else we have to look no further than their sister company Skoda in India as to why just importing well-built cars (in various forms) arent enough without an efficient service network.
