Hello all. Finally I managed to buy my dream machine. Civic 2008 VAT, 24000kms run, single owner. Car was in immaculate condition, got the test done by HASS and happy with their report. Deal finalized for 5.8 lacs, all inclusive. Took a long test drive of about 30kms yesterday and happy with the condition.
Taking delivery this Friday.
Thanks to all for guiding through the search.

Did you buy from a dealer or from an individual? What test was done by HASS, who took the cost and how much did it cost? 30KMs is a long test drive for sure.

There is a 2009 blue Ritz LDi listed on Tbhp classifieds which has done about 18k kms and single owner. However the price the owner seems to ask is 5.10L which I feel is very high considering it to be a 2009 model. What is a fair price for this car? Am sure the owner would not have paid more than 5.5L for the same car when he would have bought it brand new!

Gotta say sounds like a real sweet deal you got yourself there Harish. A '08 Civic with only 24K on the odo is as good as new for a VTEC engine. And to top it, you got an AT for under 6 large! Nice

Congratulations and do throw some light on your research to get to this car.

Congratulations Harish. Which color? So, we both have acquired our dream machines in the same month. Hope both of us have bought excellent specimens which will give thousands of trouble free miles - fingers crossed.
Considering that you are based out of Bangy, the deal does sound sweet and the icing on the cake is the 24K on the odo. Did you manage to get the full service history of the car? What does the HASS check up report say? Any work to be done?
Hope you used the Used car checklist in TBHP to check the car. You may want to use it before the delivery of the car on Friday.

Please post some pics once you get a hand on the car.

Hi Vivek5870 could you please direct me to the used car checklist?

Also, can anyone here give me an idea of how much does an average service cost for BMW X3?

Hello shabahmad,
A fair price of your R would be around 2.1-2.2L. Quote a price of around 2.5L & finalize the deal at around 2.2L. If the insurance has been recently renewed, add 5-10k's to the price.
If you are keen on selling, sell before the year ends because, once the year changes, buyers might quote even lower prices.

Hope this helps,
Varun

My Baleno is now touching 72K Kms and going by the rate by mid of next year it might be very close to 80K Kms. With so much running i am thinking of looking at a different car (Preferably Diesel).

What kind of Diesel hatch/Sedan i can get for ~6L in Bangalore. Actually the question is for both new and used by keeping the sanity of this thread i would look at used for now.

Did a quick search on Carwale and i see i can get Swifts and Dzire's in this range.

If you can stretch a bit and look for long term, sunny diesel will be an excellent choice.
Else, Ritz diesel will be good in hatch, since it's more spacious than swift.
If driving dynamics is a priority, then swift is the choice.

So there are two to three options on the table.

1. Buy a SUV in 6-8 months time replacing Baleno for both self and driver driven (BTW, this would need a lot of cash). So if i decide this i might delay for another year.
2. Buy a car (used) which will be only driven by the driver and very occasionally by me or my wife, and delay the big cash SUV purchase for about a year more.
3. Buy a hatch (new) of approximately same amount and the rest remains the same.

So you see i do not care about driving dynamics, It needs to be comfortable for occupants, cheap to maintain, cheap to run, good AC, and comfortable ride for occupants.
  • Mahindra Qualto looks good but goes to 7-9L OTR
  • Sunny looks decent, iffy Nissan service again 7-9L OTR
  • USED SX4 (Diesel) would be also good, i am not sure how much it would come to?
  • USED i20, why do i feel this would be expensive?
  • Would like to stay away from Skoda/VW/Tata especially if USED.

.
Hello Mayank,
I would suggest you to stick to option 2. A used SX4 D costs around 7.5~8L in Mumbai. So tax high Banglore prices would be even higher. You can get a Dzire for around 6~6.5L. And you will lose much less, if you decide to sell after a year.
Hope this helps,
Varun
