Re: Details of the next-generation Volkswagen Polo emerge. EDIT: Unveiled in Berlin

VW urges ‘do not use seatbelt’ after potentially lethal fault discovered by Finnish media.

The rear-left seatbelt in Volkswagen Polos as well as the Seat Ibiza and Arona have been found to have a potentially dangerous fault.

Quote:
Independent tests by the magazine, which were later confirmed by the manufacturer, found that when driven at speed and all three seat belts are in use, the rear left seatbelt can unexpectedly unfasten
Quote:
VW Group said it was aware of the fault and advised owners not to use the middle seatbelt until a solution to the problem is found and a recall can be carried out

Re: Details of the next-generation Volkswagen Polo emerge. EDIT: Unveiled in Berlin

Is the 1.0 TSI any good?

We have 3 three-cylinder petrols (Micra Active, Celerio and Wagon R) at home and I am planning to exchange one for the current gen GT TSI. The 4 cylinder refinement is something I'd die for, especially when combined with the sweet DSG (no head nodding of the Celerio AMT).

I am stuck between holding out for the next gen to come out (2020 maybe?!) or going for the current gen GT now. I am not convinced about spending a million bucks on a 3 cylinder engine again! And that's the reason why the Ecosport Dragon AT lost against the GT.

But the new generation with all the snazzy changes and better safety (structurally) are holding me back. Should I wait? Will the new gen ever make it to India? If it does and if the 1.2 TSI is discontinued, then what about the spares?! If VW closes shop here in India, will I be left with no technically trained personnel to attend to my car if it breaks down?

Thoughts most welcome...

Volkswagen de-prioritizes small cars for India - would go for C/SUV's and Sedans.
Looks like you will have to wait for the next GEN Polo beyond 2022...

VW Polo Ad Banned in UK For Showing "Reliance On Safety Systems".

Quote:
Six people complained to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), claiming that the adverts encouraged dangerous driving by overstating the benefits of the vehicle’s safety features.

Volkswagen refuted the claims, arguing there was nothing in the commercial that "condoned or encouraged dangerous, competitive, inconsiderate or irresponsible driving

Quote:
However, the ASA disagreed with VW’s assertions, deciding that the advert’s depiction of dangerous situations and the onboard technology meant the advert showed a "reliance" on safety features that would aid irresponsible drivers.

The 2018 Polo 85 TSI Vs Suzuki SWIFT GLX Turbo - both with 1.0L engine reviewed.

Quote:
the Polo 85TSI is priced exactly the same as the GLX Turbo version of the Swift.

Planets align perfectly under the bonnet, too, as each city car is powered by an engine with three cylinders, 1.0-litre capacity, and a turbocharger.
Details of the next-generation Volkswagen Polo emerge. EDIT: Unveiled in Berlin-swp.jpg

VERDICT:

Quote:
There are two distinct city-car personalities here, and many buyers are likely to be similarly different.

If we were to use a school analogy, the Swift is the kind but mischievous, slightly scruffy pupil looking to have fun at every opportunity at the back of the class – and with whom all the kids want to be friends.

The Polo is the class swot – studious, smartly attired and, if not as popular as the Swift, certainly hugely respected for its qualities.

The Swift has always been an inherently fun car to drive, and nothing changes with the latest iteration. It tempts you to go around a corner that little bit quicker or to press its accelerator pedal that little bit harder.

The GLX’s turbo triple is the clear pick of the regular Swift engines, while this variant’s equipment list is impressive.

Re: Details of the next-generation Volkswagen Polo emerge. EDIT: Unveiled in Berlin

Volkswagen Motorsport has revealed a new look for the Polo GTI R5 rally car.

Quote:
The rally car features a 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that makes 272 PS (268 hp) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque. The unit is linked to a five-speed sequential racing transmission that sends power to a permanent four-wheel-drive system.

Given the superior power and traction, the rally Polo accelerates a lot faster than the DSG-equipped road car. The 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint takes 4.1 seconds, making the R5 2.6 seconds quicker. The lower weight of 1,230 kg (2,711 lb) certainly plays a part in that too.

The first Polo GTI R5 models will start arriving at customers in November and will compete in international and national rally championships.

Re: Details of the next-generation Volkswagen Polo emerge. EDIT: Unveiled in Berlin

Volkswagen will not be bringing the Polo to India, but has alternate plans. A strategy common to the Brazilian market too.

- A NEW Fabia will be responsible for debuting a family of subcompacts using a simplified version of the MQB A0 platform, known as MQB A0 IN.

- All these models respect the limit of 4 meters in length required to guarantee a softer tax burden in the commercialization within the Indian market.

- Wheelbase in the range of 2.50 to 2.53 meters

-Will use a 1.0 turbo engine, but it is still unclear whether it will have a 170 TSI (105 hp and 16.8 mkgf) calibration, 200 TSI (128 hp and 20.4 mkgf) or both options.

-The base of the project originates from India, the visual inspiration seems to come from Europe

- Likely to be launched in 2022, after the launch of the corresponding Compact SUV (<4m)

How can this possibly make sense? Which is the popular brand in India, Skoda or VW? Which is the popular car, Fabia or Polo?

Like it or not, Skoda is leading the group on its product assault from now on in India

The name FABIA / Polo or something else is yet to be decided.

In summary there will be a hatchback from both SKODA and Volkswagen in 2022 or beyond.

Re: Details of the next-generation Volkswagen Polo emerge. EDIT: Unveiled in Berlin

Polo Face-lift coming in 2021 with evolution in its range of engines and cosmetic changes.
Quote:
The new Volkswagen Polo will be on the market throughout 2021. The current generation was launched in 2017, so its update should be known in late 2020 and then go on sale the following year. It will not be a generational change , but a profound renovation that affects engines, equipment and a slight change of image that does not modify its structure; aesthetically it will not be a revolution, but it is expected that under the hood it will evolve considerably.
Quote:
Volkswagen will transfer some of the efficient mechanics that we have already known in the Golf VIII , in which microhybridization, based on the ** 48V network and the DSG ** change, will take center stage. There will be optimization of all its engines, in order to lower polluting emissions, and both three-cylinder and diesel engines will remain in the portfolio .
Quote:
On the outside, and as usual, the new Polo should be inspired by the style standards that we can already see the Volkswagen Golf 8 , with that front that seems to have been born to highlight the new VW logo . The set will protrude from a completely revised shield. There will be new wheels and colors, while the rear will feature a new style of led lighting. Inside you should not expect a great revolution.

Thank you volkman10 for sharing this info.

If this was any other manufacturer, I'd be slightly disheartened as my 1 year GT TDI would be outdated by next year.
But hey, this is VW India...so rest assured, my 2019 GT will still be relevant in 2029
