Re: New Suzuki Jimny in 2018

Looks like the new Jimny will not make it to India, according to reports:

Maruti Suzuki's Senior Executive Director (Engineering) C V Raman has once again ruled out the pint-sized off-roader for India saying "The three-door is a very niche segment in India. What is required for India is a five-door model. That means we have to do a new development, which would require time and cost. The possible volume against the required investment does not make sense for us."

The stunning Lego Suzuki Jimny.

Quote:
you can buy the plans for the MOC (short for My Own Creation) online or even order the whole thing. We found a company that can ship you all the parts and the plan for $120. And while that's a lot of money to spend on toys, this isn't exactly a simple kit
Quote:
Apparently, there are a few hundred Lego bricks in this kit, which is a 1/10 scale version of the real thing. It measures about 35cm long, 20cm wide and 21cm tall. The part around which everything else was probably referenced is the 1.55 DC Chequered Flag all-terrain A/T tires, which honestly look a little big for the car.

There are other bits that make this an accurate Jimny replica, like the solid rear axle, the locked diff, headlights that actually work and more

This has a far higher probability of launching in India than the real one

This is really a sad news, Maruti just does not want to reinvent itself and is stuck in the number game they have been playing in our market. Times are changing and if the company resists innovating itself in branding and sales department, it is going to lose out in the long run. The Nexa brand is so apt for a product like Jimny, sad MSIL doesn't realise its potential

Well, I wasn't holding my breath for Jimny. Maruti Suzuki will not bring in what a few people wants, this is not their game.

Hopefully the next gen Thar lives up to the hype and come with a bit of creature comforts.

The question nobody asked:

Top Speed in a Jimny.

After finishing my run-in procedure of 7 000 km of progressively rising revolutions per minute, shifting throttle position and increasing engine load, I have now sealed the deal with one mighty 70 km trip on the derestricted Autobahn.

For those who don't know what Autobahn is: "German Autobahn is widely known for having no federally mandated speed limit." - wikipedia, 2019

What we found out:

Traveling speed for long distances lies between 120 and 135 kph. There is a sweetspot of engine torque, efficiency and still-bearable wind noise to be found within that margin.

Keeping 135 kph on an incline is possible. Very steep inclines may demand a downshift to 4th for a slight torque advantage, but we did not see any such inclines during that trip. Most of the Autobahn is built to be relatively flat to allow even 40t trailers to retain their speed on inclines.

Disclosure:

For all the worried readers, I state, that the photo was taken by the passenger. I do drive fast on the 'bahn, but am not crazy or suicidal.

New Suzuki Jimny in 2018-img20190915wa0018a.jpg

One passenger and 30 kg luggage still allowed for a very respectable GPS confirmed 161 kph top speed. (remember the official figures stated a very modest 145 kph top speed)

This speed is below the fuel cut-off limiter for 4th gear (168 kph). That means, that the top speed is only to be reached in 5th gear although the engine is only capable of reaching redline in 1st 2nd and 3rd gears.

A short downhill run returned a nice 165 kph of dynamic-topspeed. At that speed, pretty much all the factors of the car were maxed out. The steering response, engine noise (some 5300 rpm), wind noise, fuel consumption, everything was way out of optimal.

The downhill test also pointed out, that wind resistance aka drag coeficient is the main factor slowing the car down. Not the number of passengers/weight of added load.

Re: New Suzuki Jimny in 2018

Jimny's waiting period in Indonesia crosses 3 years. Even in Europe it is between 1 to 2 years.

What next?.. Will Jimny be manufactured in other countries?

Finally saw the Jimny properly in flesh, last one was a fleeting glance. The car looks real good and this one’s numberplate had BlackPearl in it 😁

Re: New Suzuki Jimny in 2018

It's sad that Maruti decided to give this a miss for the Indian markets. Right now, there is no competition for the Thar (Isuzu's are in different segment) and the Jimny could have fit right in the slot and taken a huge market share away from Thar.

Looking at the global prices, this should have been competitive when compared to the Thar on this front too.

I personally would have gone ahead and booked even without taking a TD.

Alas, it's sinking in eventually that I may never be able to buy this in India. Maruti has missed a trick on this one as per me.

The SUV Global Sales - H1 2019!

They are not direct competitors, but all have the same off-road essence. LR looks to grab its market share!

Re: New Suzuki Jimny in 2018

TOP GEAR cannot stop raving about Suzuki Jimny. Even in its long term (18 Months)review, goes gaga over the SUV.

Quote:
Every day, at 5:27pm on the dot, there’s a scrap between my colleagues to work out who takes the Jimny home. Unprecedented levels of demand in an office that frequently has a Porsche, Aston or Tesla in its car park. And all for a car whose miles per hour figure can’t scrape into three figures.

There’s a mystique surrounding the little Suzuki that’s seen it accrue an 18-month waiting list, with price premiums greeting anyone wanting to skip the line via the used market. It’s been snapped up by speculators like a 458 Speciale
Quote:
The Jimny’s deep-seated honesty is its calling card. It exudes a robust simplicity you’d need a heart of granite not to be won over by, as proven by the nightly grovelling by colleagues desperate for a go

Suzuki Jimny gets Turbo charged!

Quote:
this year’s SEMA it can be pretty hard to pick a favorite but as soon as we saw a Suzuki Jimny with a wide bodykit and a turbo resting under the bonnet, we couldn’t take our eyes off it.

This little Suzuki is a right-hand drive JDM Jimny Sierra created by Car Style Japan
Quote:
Details are a bit murky at the moment, but we do know it is a fully built project that features the first turbo kit designed for the Jimny’s 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine. The turbocharger is a GReddy TZ unit.
