Looks like 2 more LaFerrari might need to be produced.

If that rumor was true, Redbull might be sitting out too for the first test.
Caterham has announced that they'll launch their car during the first test. So my guess is that the engine might be ready by then but the teams might not get enough time to fine tune or customize it before the first test.

Caterham might not be planning much once they get the engine other than to fit it and run. So they might be okay

Re: The 2014 F1 Season

Autocar UK says the LaFerrari based racer which was tested at Fiorano for the second time in the past month could be a full blown LMP1 Le Mans racer.

Reports that Ferrari is using the car to put mileage on its new 2014 F1 V6 are also said to be incorrect, as this would break the sport's regulations.

Re: The 2014 F1 Season

I guess it would be not that easy this time, we will have to wait and see what programs the teams are planning to run at the first test.

AutoCar UK is late by over a month for the party dude

Ferrari has not confirmed anything on this particular car that was spotted.

Some sources did mention about a FXX program that was being developed on the LaFerrari platform. Even otherwise, Ferrari's LMP1 plan is for 2016, I dont believe that they are testing the engine for a 2016 car in 2013 when they have to use the same engine the following year in 2014 F1.

The doubts arised only due to the wierd positioning of the airbox above the roof car and the fake dual exhausts when there is a single exhaust right in the center like what F1 requires in 2014. I am not aware if LMP1 has any regulations to have a single exhaust system like in F1.

There is a loophole and I think Ferrari has finally started using it like others

The two Scuderia Ferrari cars will carry the numbers 7 and 14 for the 2014 season, as confirmed by the FIA today. On his return to racing in red, Kimi Raikkonen will have the number 7 on his car, the same one he had last year. “There’s no particular story linked to it,” the Finn told www.ferrari.com. “It’s the number I already had last year and I saw no reason to change it. I like it which is good enough isn’t it?”
Fernando’s choice had a more specific basis, as he had already revealed back on 20th December at a Santander Bank event in Madrid. “It has always brought me luck, dating back to 14th July 1996 when, at the age of 14, I won the World championship in a kart that had the number 14,” he explained. “Let’s see if it will still bring me luck.”

Not out of Ferraris realm to do some pre-season testing ^_^.

In addition to the inlet above the car the spotters also reported that the noise it made sounded similar to what a turbo engine sounds like. If true, I can't see this being anything else than them testing the new F1 engine : ).

If not for the noise, none from media would have bothered to report it mate.

Righto..
If that's been confirmed. Its for me is enough to believe this is them pre-season testing for F1 not Le Mans or whatever the claim be ^ _ ^.

Re: The 2014 F1 Season

Do you want to name Ferrari' new single seater?

Choose from the five options: F14 T, F14 Maranello, F14 Scuderia, F166 Turbo or F616 in the link below:

http://2014f1car.ferrari.com/en/

Also, the car is to be launched on Jan 25.

Frankly, I didn't like any of it.

F166 or F616 - 1.6L V6 engine makes perfect sense but what will they do to their next iteration? It would have been okay with a version suffix to it
Maranello and Scuderia - have they become so desperate to include these names into an engine?
14 T - 2014 and Turbo- makes sense but will they change the name for next season even if there are no changes to engine? Of the lot, this seems to be the better option but 16 is an important number that should figure into the name somewhere.

In that case, I guess the Team has figured out who would win the WDC and doesn't have a LaFerrari as of date

Just saying

Re: The 2014 F1 Season

I voted for F14 T(omcat)

Alonso had tweeted his fans to select F14T as well, may be because of his number this year.

And here is the car under the drapes.
