Yes, it’s just the rubber housing that gets drilled. Atleast this is the case with my Brezza. Rubber housing which is a protective cover can be bought for RS. 500 or 1k. Maybe you can just check yourself for the headlamp housing on the back of the assembly to see if it’s protected by the rubber casing by any chance?

Also, I am finding it hard to get any 4300K LED bulbs, except in Aliexpress.
You should be able to find some for sure. I’ll check that myself and post any links I’ll manage to find to help you with your purchase. But let me put a disclaimer for you. LEDs are best plonked with projectors to have controlled illumination to ensure it doesn’t create a strong glare for oncoming traffic as the projection of light from LEDs is a bit intense, pairing it with conventional reflectors will be a problem to others and puts the user also in danger on road posed by the glare to oncoming traffic. I refrain myself a lot from using high beam because it’s conventional reflector system. I use it mainly for an instant flash and nothing else.

Re: LED Headlamp Bulbs are here! The end of HID?

Hi Guys,

Installed the Philips H4 Ultinon LED headlamps on my Honda City 2011.
Got it from Amazon for 9.3 K INR (plus some 500 cashback for using Amazon Pay).

Was an impulse purchase since I was planning a long trip and my Osram nightbreakers conked off a couple of weeks back so I was back on the stock headlamps.
I didnt want to risk taking a long trip with the pathetic stock headlamps.

The package came in a couple of days. Dec 2016 manufactured and the product was sealed properly.
Build quality seems pretty good and comes with the required zip ties and instructions for installation.

I fitted them myself. Truly plug and play. Just need to tie down the driver units to an appropriate location.
I checked a couple of youtube videos and fitted them properly.

Results:

Low beam is really really good. Sharply defined cut off, very good spread and very bright also.
The lamps have the left and right sides marked and the low beam on both bulbs is higher on the left side than right. Well designed so that the glare for oncoming traffic (which is always on the right side) is minmized. Have to say I'm very happy with the low beam since that is what we use 95% of the time. Way better than the nightbreakers.

I ended up doing the long drive during the day so I couldnt really evaluate the high beams well. But in general I think somehow the reach for high beams is not so good. Yes, it's bright, but somehow the visibility on high beams is not as good as I expected (definitely better than stock headlamps or even nightbreakers but maybe I expected more). Have to do a long drive to check them out really.

Havent got a chance to drive in rains; this is another aspect I need to check out.

Side note: The light is definitely white, not warm white and gives a premium look. Now my parking lamps are looking really yellow in comparison. I need to find some LED lamps to replace them as well

Overall I would say, it's a really good upgrade, but whether it's worth the 9K is debateable. I didnt want to take chances with unbranded LED bulbs on Aliexpress so I decided to take the plunge.

Where are the twin pins that are visible in normal / stock bulbs ? I'm referring to the H7 variety, H4 has three pins. What is the bulbous rear ? Heat sink ? Where does this unit have to be accommodated in the limited space behind the HL unit ? My Night Hawks failed in about 5 years of less usage, whereas the stock halogens are just fine, used ALL the time (in low beam). I have replaced them with Philips White vision from amazon, dunno how long they will last ?

Fitting the bulb on the ARIA / HEXA (especially left side) is a task, given that the battery and fuse box severely restricts access.

The easiest way is to just search for "philips h7 ultinon installation" in Youtube. Gives you a clear video showing the installation. Mine is an H4; the H7 looks quite different, but basics are the same. Bulbous part is the heatsink; you basically unscrew the heatsink, fit the headlamp into the enclosure, put in the rubber dust cap and screw the heatsink back in. Twin pins are attached to the power block. Also please check the reviews for H7 ultinon. Seems to be different from the reviews for H4 version.

I have seen some HIDS which have a silver cap in front and some which dont. Which one is the right one for sx4 application. I believe mine are H4,is there any other number like i have seen 9006, is H4 and 9006 same?

Re: LED Headlamp Bulbs are here! The end of HID?

Hi Experts,

Need advice on upgrading the headlamps on my TATA Safari 2.2 VTT. Does it support the LED lamps like philips h7 ultinon?

For the last 5.5 years, I've used stock lamps as well as halogens. Looking for something brighter.

Cheers!

Please ignore if you are aware of it already. You will need to look for H4 headlamps,, since the Safari Dicor uses H4, while it's H7 for the Storme.

Thanks for such a quick reply. I will be looking for Philips H4 Ultinon for my Safari 2.2.

I hope that the H4 can be fitted without any major changes in the stock headlights. But will there be any harm to the stock headlights (reflectors) in few months?

Cheers!

Guess your concern can be over the holder and the rubber dust covers at the rear side of the headlight assembly. The reflectors might still "live up" to the heat dissipated by the lord's. Also, won't a large reflector area magnify the intensity of the bright led's, causing inconvenience to oncoming traffic? Please consider this aspect too while deciding. Regards

Most of the time low beam will be in use and the high beam will only be used intelligently. The holder and dust cover will not get any impact of the heat generated by the LED?

Also please suggest the best place to source the original LEDs.

Cheers!

Re: LED Headlamp Bulbs are here! The end of HID?

Does anyone know what brand of LED's are used in the new Dzire Z / Z+ trims? since there is only 1 bulb i believe its H4 LED bulbs

The owners manual just mentions LED lamps. These are projector setup and also have automatic headlights.

I have driven it on highway during night times with these bulbs in my Dzire ZXi+ and the low beam is good. High beam i feel needs adjustment but definitely has good throw

Also any idea on the type of Fog lamps used in these trims?

The LED headlamp is a sealed unit with the LED chips built into the housing. There is no separate LED "bulb"

I travel a lot in the night, so with Philips X Treme Vision fog light bulbs and these give out a good amount of throw, spread and reach.
The spread is patchy at places, maybe due to reflector design/ led placements?
I got my headlights aligned at a proper garage recently, and that too has made quite a difference in beam pattern.
The LED's are 6000k, I would have liked them to be around the 4600k temperature range.
Like all white lights, they're not that great in the rains. They're way better than HID's, but in the rains a pair of 100/90 halogens will be way better.
The reach is really really good.
consumes only ~23W as compared to 60/55W consumed by typical halogens. I also have Osram LED tail light indicators and reverse light.
I shall post pictures and videos soon of the bulbs in action, as of now just putting up these pictures from my Instagram.
Hello Satya
I'm planning to get the same for my Vento. Would you recommend a DIY or taking it to an accessories guy ? Also, where is the ballast / driver of the Philips Ultinon placed in your car? Is it inside the rubber cover of the headlight of is fastened with the help of zip ties somewhere on the outside of the rubber cover? If on the outside, a picture or two may be of great help. Thanks.

Hi Utkarsh,
a DIY is definitely doable. The ballast is placed outside the headlight assembly, fastened with zip ties to different locations. Will click pictures and update here soon.
I bought my Ultinon from a car accessory shop, hence installation was done there itself.
Its better to remove the headlights completely from the car for ease of work. Its fairly easy, and if you're comfortable with the same then attempt the DIY.

Which City are you from? I owned a safari 2.2 Dicor for 4 yrs. and had the lights upgraded to 4300k HIDs (Chinese). Costed me around 4.5k at that time, but never did let me down.
If you're from NCR, I can suggest you some good reliable shops as per your requirement.
