I want only a very light-shade one. There should be some shade, but it should not hamper the nice view of the landscape I can get from inside. Similarly, from outside also, I must be able to see from outside the vehicle the things that I keep in the car! In short, I don't want a very black/dark looking one, but only a mild shade that would be a protection from the extreme heat, that is all. Can anyone suggest to me an appropriate sunfilm for my vehicle?
Dealer is right about the rating.
70% VLT means 70% light can pass through the film.

From your description it seems you want a very light film and I would advise you to go for a 50% VLT for sides and rear windshield. Dont worry even if the leagal limit is 70% for rear....50 itself is so light, a cop will not stop you for that. With a 50%, you can easily see the contents of the car as you want. Go for a 70% or a 80% VLT film for your front windshield.

Garware films are good VFM but I personally like Llumar and 3M. Really happy with both the brands. But beware of their fakes. So get in touch with a reliable source.

Re: Sun Film

Dear Sirs,
I am planning to get sunfilms installed in my Swift. Popular Trivandrum is offering Garware Classic Supernatural Ash colour for Rs. 3K sides and rear. They do not offer 3M. From the posts, I find that 3M is not available in Trivandrum.

Kindly advice about the price. The so called supernatural is not seen in the website. Is 3M offering a home installation in Trivandrum?

Is it OK to install a windshield film? Will it affect the visibility? If not, which is the best one that I could go in for. Total budget is 6-7K.

Thanks in advance.

Hi specialist1968,
Well coming right to the point.
1) Garware doesn't have the entire range of the sun film advertised on their website..most films are not even mentioned there..
2) 6-7k is a very good budget for a swift you should check the broucher of the and look for the maximum heat reflection than visibility. I would advice you to speak to the dealer and ask him for a film with metal inside it...I personally have got ICE COOL Grande 40% VLT and around 80% HLT which is kinda expensive but u never know the prices may have decreased by now..
3) front glass tints do have their benefits as being the biggest piece of glass in a car it brings in the maximum heat and light, but only if you don't opt for a dark tint I would advice you to goin for Garware ice cool with 80% visibility which is a very light tint but reflects around 40% of the heat...that's what I am using on my jetta...
Well am not too sure of the range that is available in your city, but I do advice you to go thru the broucher
I hope this is helpful..and please do read my post in this segment it will give you a much clear view on this topic...
Regards and safe driving

Few cents here. Try if you can get hold of Infra-Kool suncontrol films as well. It works superb for the front windshield (IK70). I have recently got it done for 10.5K and can feel the performance in various aspects such as AC cooling, amount of heat getting inside the cabin etc.

The legit limit for sunfilms is 50% for sides and 70% for front and rear. But in any case, a 50% is very light too and I do not think any cop will stop you for a 50% film. So don't worry. Drive safe.

With 35% you will never be stopped unless they start specifically looking for window tints. Otherwise with darker tints too you can get away, depending on how and where you drive and if you have a vip number or not.

Vkool for sides and rear. Yet to decide for front, not sure if its worth 3.5k extra for Vkool. Probably the K37 shade for sides and rear.

Exactly as Akshay said, 35% is safe as long as there is no anti-film campaign or something. I personally use 20% on all my cars. Not been stopped even once for the tints.

I am using Llumar Steel 20. No problem with visibilty at night. Not even while backing up. I would recommend steel 20 or 3M CS 20. Though both claim to be 20, i found Llumar film to look darker from outside. In-out visibility is same.

Re: Sun Film

Anyone heard about Solar Gaurd sun films, its been offered by Hot tracks here in bangalore, saw its add in this months Auto Car, so wondering if anyone has any experience or heard about this brand. My last car had Global Window Sunfilms (some company from US) and it was pretty good.
