guess it will be too heavy for the other mounts (Suction mount in a car for example)

It would be for 'hand-held flying'

It is only $90-ish, which i can stomach. Not sure i want to put down $450+ for a decent drone at this point of time!!

I looked through a lot of online deals but nothing came close to mpgear.com

They are offering Hero3+ Black at 359.99 along with a Wasabi battery pack & charger free. No shipping cost and no taxes! Plan is to return the camera that I get from gopro's website and I'm looking at a saving of $84!!

Any reason why I shouldn't order from mpgear now?

Not that I can think of
I bought 2 GoPros from them and both are good. FYI, the cameras get shipped first and the freebies later using slower(cheaper) shipping. As long as you have a couple of weeks, you should get everything delivered.

I can't use two promo codes together, so 10% discount is the only one I'll use. That saves $40 against this monday coupon (even I received their mail this morning).

The camera ordered from gopro hasn't reached them yet, its a little surprising because I thought gopro's shipping of their own product would be faster than anybody else but its been ~10 calendar days and no sight of the camera so far.

My sis said that usually there's a return label of some sort which the customer can use to ship the product back and once she sends the camera back is when she's planning to order it from mpgear.

Please visit delhi after sept'14 because by then the camera would've arrived and I'd like to film our treat using the same

Re: Helmet / Car Cameras : GoPro, Contour, etc

So i bought this

There were some cheaper ones ($60) that honestly seemed as good, but i ended up choosing this one:

A more impressive video (but of a 3-axis version):

Cool! So now will we get to see in-motion videos of cars being reviewed?

That reminds me, how do you use the gopro mounts with this thing? Like the car mount or the pole mount? Or is it just for handheld shooting?

Tour de France cyclists are supposedly using the Shimano cameras on their cycles

Re: Helmet / Car Cameras : GoPro, Contour, etc

3D printed this frame a few days back. Due to the design, getting the GoPro in the frame is a bit of a pain. Will just trim off the additional part that's blocking it.

@ Dry Ice - To answer your question. Those Gimbals are basically made to be mounted on multi-rotor copters. In this case, i'll just have to make by own way to hold it in-hand. There are hand-held ones available, but those are more expensive.

Ah very nice! Gives it a snug fit.

Was this was done from a table top 3D printer? Asking because I had been to a demo for a 3D printer sometime back and they were demo'ing the machine using all sorts of objects - toothbrush, gears, threaded fasteners etc.

What was the thermoplastic material used for fabricating this part? PLA?

Re: Helmet / Car Cameras : GoPro, Contour, etc

Hey Gannu_1,

Its printed in ABS. I wouldn't trust PLA for a part like this in the long term (though i might be wrong).

Yep, it was printed using a table-top printer. The Flashforge Creator X.

The 3D file was downloaded from here : https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:113764

Re: Helmet / Car Cameras : GoPro, Contour, etc

Ouch, broke my quick release buckle while inserting it into my DIY dash mount. No excessive force was applied, guess i was plain unlucky.
Front what i had seen, the mounts and buckles withstand minor impacts too. Wonder why mine broke

Write to the US GoPro support.

It will take them a few days to reply (they aren't exactly fast), but they do have good guys running the show.

Tell them this is your new Hero 3+, and this is what's happened. Chances are they'll send you a replacement FOC. (Same thing happened with my case latch, but that was a known weakness of the old case).
