Why so? Brand or bike? Because the X300 is considered at par or better than the 310GS even by international media. Gets hardware like spoked wheels, a much smoother parallel twin etc that the GS doesn't get as well.

PS - The German looks better and worth the money, compared to the weird looks of the baby Versys.

subconsciously, one of the reasons for bending towards the baby GS. Also, unless one is doing some serious off-roading, the spoke wheels are more of a liability if not tubeless. I think i will settle for the Silver and Red combo.. going to check them out at tusker tomorrow.

We should actually run a poll to see who will buy 310R over Ninja 300

Kawasaki just pushed BMW out of the line with new pricing. Need to see if Yamaha follows the same with R3 or still resist. I think it all depends on how aggressive the marketing heads at Yamaha are.

Brand, Looks, Premium Quality.

While GS looks like a beautiful machine - Versys X-300 looks like a very weird contraption. Besides how many people do actually need the spoked wheels etc on the Versys.

Isn't both are completely different segment? Or still we are in the age of "anything above 2 L is Superbike", people still talk like "I drove the bike", your super bike ( I tried many times that it's adventure bike not super bike)

True.

But most people purchasing a bike from this price bracket in India are first time owners and they generally look for the best all-rounder, rather than specifically targetting to buy a naked, sport etc. Success depends on how well these machines can adapt to our conditions as a single bike in the garage.

Same reason why we see the Duke 390 (primary competition for the 310R) heavily used for touring, despite all its shortcomings as a tourer.

PS -

You can see here (Kawasaki Ninja 300 prices to drop thanks to heavy localisation. EDIT: Launched at 2.98 lakhs) right now that two BHPians are going through the same confusion. What to purchase between the Ninja 300 / Duke 390 / 310GS.

The Ninja 300 is a gem of a machine. and now with its "Honest Pricing" the Joke is on BMW.

I am tired of waiting for a lightweight comfortable bike, if it was KTM 390 adv, i would have jumped at it. BMW310 GS is definitely overpriced, but what other options do we have? I took 3 test rides of Himalayan but was not convinced. Versys 300X is 4.65L Ex showroom, and expensive on service and spares. I seriously dont care about that BMW badge, but may have to settle for it. Would be superhappy if the same bike had the TVS horse and was priced a lakh lower, the BMW badge would anyways draw unwanted attention and am sure people would try and peel it off..

If you intend to wait and watch then Hero might release the Xpulse before this year end maybe. Since you own a Versys anyway, you are the premium customers BMW is targetting.
Just ride the Versys to the BMW showroom for booking the GS and they will treat you really well going by the posts on how they treat potential customers.

Ah! I see you are not from Bangalore.

Bangalore showroom is located in the heart of the city - at a location where you can't even park a cycle in front of the showroom. Parking a Versys there will only result in blocked traffic and a fight with the traffic police towaway van.

Service is managed from the 3rd floor of this building. Will be interesting to see how they can handle increasing volumes.

Maybe this is the reason why BMW priced their bikes at such a premium

It would be really interesting indeed to see how the sales guys in BMW showrooms cope with the influx of crowd now.

First Ride Impressions - NDTV Car and Bike - G310R.

True. I've been saying that from a couple of months now. Pricing of the GS is exactly what I had predicted back then.

310R however just doesn't have the desirability to pull it off, I feel. GS should do relatively fine - no better priced competition too.

I have been waiting for Xpulse for eternity and that bike is very much in scheme. I am not able to use versys for what its built for but wasting it on city commute daily. Versys is manageable in city but lets say not ideal when it comes to weight and size. So the idea is to eventually replace versys with baby GS for daily commute plus weekend breakfast ride and an xpulse for trail bashing or during monsoons. Selling the versys should get me enough to buy these two bikes, hopefully.

Wearing a Dainese jacket or carrying an AGV helmet should work as both the brands are owned and sold by the same tusker group and they know the premium they charge on these brands.

Well said. That's exactly how the 390 ADV will drag its ass down the dirt trail. With more power and similar weight. Hopefully, it'll even get wire spoke wheels. KTM also has enormous experience off-road participating in Dakar, Hare Scramble, Baja 1000, and what not. That'll certainly come in handy. The 390 ADV's suspension will obviously be more off-road ready than the GS's.

The 310 GS is a soft roader at best. Plus, the positive reviews abroad also keep the price in context. It's better priced outside.

It has the road presence for sure. And I maintain that it's a superb commuter and tourer. But not worth Rs. 4 lakh no matter how you look at it.

Now I'm all the more eagerly waiting for the 390 ADV.

More reviews pouring in -

310GS First Ride - NDTV Car and Bike.

310 Twins First Ride - Evo.

Similar conclusions - Hard to justify the price of the R, but the GS is much awaited in the Indian context.
