re: BMW G310R & G310GS launched at Rs. 2.99 - 3.49 lakh

There can be several delay factors but these look quite near (Totally my view :-) ) -

1. Pricing - BMW wants to earn a premium for its brand name but is in dilemma knowing that will not work in India market with such a fierce competition. Obviously KTM390 is the killer.
2. Spec - Might be some spec change is in cards to suit Indian pricing.
3. Dealership - BMW might be waiting to build a good delearship & service network before launch & getting dealers to invest in such bikes is a tough task.
4. Conditions - Indian road condition is vastly different from the European. Probably thats why BMW partnered with TVS. So the current produced model for Europe might need several changes before it is launched in India. So that might be taking time.
5. Quality - BMW believes in fixing all quality aspects rather then hurrying to launch.
6. Wait and watch - See for a certain time how bikes are performing in Europe as well as test runs in India before going for large scale production.

For sure BMW or any such company will have legal contracts with Indian companies about product launch timings. Therefore Akula cannot be launched before BMW. Same happened with Dominar.

re: BMW G310R & G310GS launched at Rs. 2.99 - 3.49 lakh

TVS has noting to do with G310r release, they are working on Akula. By the looks of it, Akula has been spotted quite a number of times being tested, so i guess we should see the relase of Akula by mid year.

Not sure, how soon it will hit the showrooms though, seeing how the new Apache was handled.

re: BMW G310R & G310GS launched at Rs. 2.99 - 3.49 lakh

As far as news reports go, the delays are due to BMW deciding to launch their bike bikes first and create a halo first. Not bad strategy in my opinion.

Secondly, I don't think the delays are due to quality issues as mentioned by few folks, because the 310R is already available for sale in many parts of the world, like Ireland for example.
It's priced at 6000 Euros ride-away here, 1000 odd less than the R3.

I could have taken a test ride of it in Dublin, but don't have an A2/biker's license. It's easier to drive/get a car license here than the bike license!

The odd thing is that is that the Duke 390 & R3 are both similarly priced here.
Going by maths, can we expect less than 2.5Lakh OTR for the BMW?

re: BMW G310R & G310GS launched at Rs. 2.99 - 3.49 lakh

In my opinion the difference between Duke 390 and 310R isnt really the specs on paper alone, in which case the Duke seems definitely better.

However for a true rider, the noticeable difference is the High-Compression engine of the Duke against Low-Compression engine of the 310R, everyone has their own preference, but lower compression engine of 310R makes for an easier ride especially in city (this is a h-u-u-uge benefit)

Only advantage of higher compression engine in comparison is better engine braking while riding aggressively.

That's because the Duke is made in India, for the world hence the cheaper price here.

And yeah, the BMW is also expected to be made here hence it could be inexpensive but BMW could leverage it's brand value to charge a premium.

re: BMW G310R & G310GS launched at Rs. 2.99 - 3.49 lakh

India-spec BMW G310R debuts in Bangkok;
While the BMW G310R’s launch in India has been delayed, India-spec G310R, has been showcased at the 2017 Bangkok Motor Show. There are few changes to the bike in the India-spec avatar. Most of the changes are cosmetic, but This Rushlane article says Even the ECU mapping is different. What changes has been done to the ECU mapping is not clear from the article. Most of the reviews from foreign media have praised the engine generally. How this ECU mapping changes the ride and engine characteristic needs to be seen.

Changes:
The India-spec variant comes with longer side indicators, new tail light, new handle bar grip and exhaust cover at the end gets more steel finish. The changes are shown in the images

I tried to look for differences in the images of the handle bar, but I could not spot any.

Even I am wondering how much difference would be there in the ECU mapping between European version and the Indian version. Does it also mean that all the reviews that have been posted so far may not hold true in terms of riding? I wish there is no decrease in the power output.
About the silencer, I am not sure if only the metal casing is changed or the India bound bike carries a different silencer altogether.

Given that in April BMW is launching and entering officially in India, could we expect a June launch of G310R?

A good decent review, targeted mainly at daily ride. The exhaust sounds very very neat. If you are only interested to hear the exhaust sound, watch the last four or five minutes.

I guess you mean ex showroom price, because otr in bangalore is close to 3 lacs.

But that price will keep kawasaki and Yamaha happy as they don't have to worry about price correction nor Ninja or R3

From some solid sources I presume? If true, that is a ridiculous price for an Indian manufactured vehicle.

I'd like to see if BMW actually launches at this prices - I personally don't think it will..

Considering that the G310 is priced cheaper that its closest competitor the Duke 390 in the EU/US markets, I don't see why BMW would want to shoot themselves in the foot by pricing it almost 1L above the 390 in the Indian context.

I guess the only logical point for pricing it higher than its competition would be to keep the BMW brand's 'premium' tag not getting diluted with a 'cheap' product.

While the BMW's might have better quality than its KTM competition, but they can't match the bells & whistles offered by KTM.

But the primary premise for the BWM with the G310 series is to have an affordable world market bike, so in India it will be interesting to see how they price it. I would still imagine that the pricing of the G310R is within +/- 30K of the Duke390.

Just think about this, if the G310R is priced at 3.7L (Ex-showroom OR OTR) the G310 GS would unimaginable at north of the 4L mark. Seeing the double digit monthly sales numbers of the KTM should be some indicator for BMW to re-think their pricing strategy with this bike.
