What you said is correct, M&M should have imposed heavy cancellation charges to avoid the multiple bookings. This would have ensured that there would have been much lesser duplicate bookings. The ramp up in production is NOT so drastic that such a difference is possible. From what I understand, below are the reasons for a quicker opening of bookings

1. There were too many duplicate bookings which led to fair number cancellations among the first lot of 7200

2. People who didn't get thru the lottery would have gone for other options instead of waiting for another 3+ months and still unsure of delivery

3. Instead of irritating more prospective customers [from the rejected list] and making them feel the policy is unfair, they have been given preference for deliveries, which is quite OK in my opinion. Another round of lottery for the missed guys would have been cruel!

I still remember seeing an emotional tweet from the father of a 3 year old asking Anand Mahindra whether there was a chance he could get an XUV [after getting rejected in the lottery] and said he could not answer his kid's question why they didn't get the car. Anand Mahindra replied saying he will try to work out a plan for those who got rejected last time.

Do we have many sensors in those portions which go into water? From what I can recollect, TPMS will be the only sensors which will be submerged, but then that's already on Scorpio and those owners can comment on the performance of TPMS sensors in monsoons. Is there any other sensors under the car?

To clear reliability doubts, this is me crossing and none of the sensors malfunctioned even temporarily. I enjoyed the river for good 10 minutes

Lets sincerely hope that we dont have a couple of feet of water to wade in this year in Mumbai. I guess at max you can expect the TPMS sensors in the tyres to be in water but those are well insulated, apart from that the rear sensors on the bumper at the low position which may be subject to water but in extreme conditions only.

Great going, how much was the maimum depth (appx.). Were any of the sensors except the TPMS, physically submerged. TPMS I know are pretty robust even in the Scorpio.

It was around knee deep and some more. Mind you that because of rocky bed the car had to maintain momentum all the time and the water was splashing all over because of more than normal speed. So it would have reached many placed inside. I saw wires on brake shoe too. So I guess the abs and esp sensors are also somewhere down there. The pic is of river crossing while I enjoyed diagonal drive in the river too for around 100 mts two three times.

I called up the dealer yesterday. He had conveniently forgotten about 25/26th April that he had mentioned last time (after confirmation from M&M). Looks like nobody else besides me is bugging him for a delivery date. Anyways, after my call, the sales manager again checked with M&M and told me that I should expect a call by Saturday 28th Apr or worst case Monday 30th Apr. The excuse given was that the bookings were extended for couple of days beyond 18th April and that has caused a delay in arriving at the delivery sequence.

Same case here with India Garage - Bangalore. I have been bugging him but he does not have an answer. Looks like, M&M has not given any guidance to these folks. Since I continued to insist that I need to know what the actual scenario is, he promised to get me in touch with a M&M Manager 2 days ago. But that also has not happened. I will try and contact him today and post an update here, if I have any.

Agreed with you, I have also tried some similar adventures, including river crossing, offroading, etc. with my Scorpio which has most of the electronics that the XUV possesses till now no impact of water / rocks / dirt on those (or am I lucky in that front).

Hey All,

I too booked the XUV FWD A8 around 14th of April. The dealer (G3 Motors, Kandivili Mumbai) said that we would have tentative delivery dates given around the 18th of April.

No such luck. Just called the dealership and they said dates would be alloted by the end of April! :(

From your post, looks like you are supposed to get the cal directly from M&M. So why are you contacting the SA? I suggest you call up the call centre and get the details as to why there was no call backs! If the SA is doing just a piggy-back communication, not sure how much is he gonna be of help! I would say you are being unfair to the dealership by giving negative points!

Any news on when the AT version is likely to be launched?

I am seeing that the basic engine is niggle free, but there are some problems with gear box and quite a lot of random issues with Electronics. Possibly some problems also due to ramping up of production.

So It reiterates the classical point re Indian mfgs. - wait for a year for all the teething problems to die down.

Should Mahindra suspend the production of XUV till niggling issues are sorted out ? If I were heading the company i would rather concentrate on long term goodwill than short term profits and take time out to fully channelise resources to solve existing problems.

From seeing the number of posts increasing on the XUV niggles thread, there seem to be quite a number of minor, few major issues being reported.

They have done it with the bike that Aamir Khan used to promote, i forgot the name. (Stallio ? ) Im not sure whether it got relaunched or not after solving the gearbox issues.

Sorry for the OT, looks like people who are planning for company lease going to face a setback. And the crux is this rule may be applicable from April 1st of 2012 as per TOI, if applied So most likely the corporate houses will fall in line and employees will be losing out on a big sum since the interest rate of leasing companies are pretty higher than the market rate.

Now for XUV customer like me, who booked the vehicle on company name for availing car lease, the challenge going to be on how to convince M&M to change the booking back to individual ownership. I am yet to hear back from my sales rep on this. He promised that he is going to take up this one with management and help me out.

I sent an email to the leasing co person I'm in touch with about 3-4 days back asking how much possiblities that this will become reality! He has not responded yet. I'm also in the middle of the getting lease processed and now confused after this news. Does this mean if this rule becomes a reality they are going to verify (validate whether the facility is being put to genuine use or not) each who have availed it after April 1, 2012? Or it simply means that you will not get any tax benefits on EMI or fuel or maintenance of the car?
Any idea when will we come to know whether this is happening or not! I have a feeling that this law may face some resistance since it will impact a few finance companies in a big way.

I guess reading through the niggles thread one should take it with a pinch of salt. I am not saying that any of the niggles reported are not serious but I am saying that there are many happy stories too that are not reported (what to report if every thing is working fine ) or are not given same attention.
I admit that I may have faced few of those niggles personally but all of them got resolved by visiting the service center once or may be twice. I again want to highlight based on my interactions, that Mahindra is very proactive and is working swiftly. Also the fact that they are NIGGLES and not major defects should also be kept in mind while deciding.
Regarding the apprehensions about the electronics I have never faced an issue with ABS, ESP, Hill Hold, Hill Decent, cruse control, start/stop, etc. They all get activated when intended without a fail. the engine is good, the gearbox is ok, clutch is fine, breaks do their duty perfectly, handling is car like, suspension is ok, the HU sounds fine, the seats are comfortable for 5.

Yes I also.observed same thing today when I checked price for w8 ex Delhi to be 13,04,000. I paid 11,95,000 and after 50,000 increase after the intro prices ended it would have gone up to 12,45,000. 2% excise increase can't justify another 60,000 increase. So it's a cool 1,10,000 price difference for me.
