Hi,
I always get a free courtesy car wash during every service (Under BSI as of now) and also if the car goes in for any repair/warranty issue. My dealer is Bird Gurgaon.

The only regular wheelbase 3 Series one can buy is now the M340i.

Sad news for ordinary 3er enthusiast buyers but it was expected. Actually I was taken aback when BMW sold the normal 3 series and LWB 3 series side by side, though it time was anyways ticking away for the normal 3 series, the day the LWB was launched in India.

Did Myapp work for you woth bluetooth/wifi? BMW India's response to my question on why connected drive is not activated in India was "they do not have permission from the Govrnment to lauch connected drive services in India" - and they expected me to believe this !!

No. At least for me, it didn't. The app connected to my car but couldn't pull any data as I think the app pulls data from the BMW server that the car sends data to (and not directly from the car). iDrive7 cars sold in India do not have a data connection.

I asked the question on the infernal BMW One app and (to my surprise) got a call back from BMW only to inform me that "the requisite hardware is not present". That is BS. In as much as I understand all cars produced after 2014 have a SIM slot and when enabled can communicate to the BMW servers from where My BMW app can pull data (and vice-versa). Like Merc, Honda and a lot of other car OEMs, we can only hope that BMW also allows connected car tech in their earlier models.

Happy to tag-team with people to raise this to BMW India.

Re: BMW 3-Series Gran Limousine Review (Long Wheelbase)

Initially BMW told me that the connected drive services are not available due to Government restrictions which was complete BS - now they tell me that this service will not be available for vehicles already sold.

I agree with you, all the vehicles manufactured post 2014 have this capability and all BMW needs to do is activate the service. I beleive the cars running Idrive 7 hav esim capability and it just needs to be activated, Currently there is no option even to upgrade the Idrive software either remotley or thru USB as the functionality has been disbaled. The car is completely cut off from the world except what you get thru Carplay and AA.

Happy to support you to get BMW to activate this service for older cars!

Is there anything we can do about this, though? I don’t know if car companies really pay heed to such requests coming from already acquired customers.

Happy to support the ask if we plan to do this!

Re: BMW 3-Series Gran Limousine Review (Long Wheelbase)

I like the LCI exteriors. Real sharp. But interiors i have mixed opinions. Gone is the gear lever replaced by a tacky switch. Too much digitalisation, the large screen feels out of place though the screen is of a better resolution. (I usually turn off the display completely while driving especially during night drives). The most missed are the shortcut buttons.I use them very frequently assigning each for Audio settings,Sport individual, eco pro individual, TPMS,exhaust valve settings(coded), journey data, interior lighting etc. Hope they have an alternate option for this.

Recently i have been getting excellent fuel efficiency figures on my highway drives. Easily more than 17kmpl. Usually i maintain cruise control at 100kmph @Eco pro mode. Its electric smooth. Best i have got is 19kmpl on a 200 km drive.

Planning to wrap my car something similar to Tanzanite blue.Stock colour is white. Any opinions on wrapping?

I wrote to BMW about Connected Car tech support for iDrive7. Initially a person called me back but soon said that he'll have someone from the "technology team" speak to me the next day. I didn't hear for a couple of days and I wrote to them again. The next day I got a call. The "technology" person was anything but technical. He started off by saying that the car lacks the communication module. When I pointed that it is required only for emergency calling while maps and BMW assistant can derive internet from the router that provides the WiFi access point for AA/ACP which again can be connected by having a SIM in the available slot, the guy dithered. He first said the SIM card reader actually is a memory card reader (eh?) and then said the car doesn't have a WiFi access point but uses the phone's hotspot. This is when I understood that the person is just trying to talk away the query and has no intention to even ask BMW. But he finally said he'll come back to me after a couple of weeks. It remains to be see whether he just kicked the can down the road or he has applied internally for a refresher course on connected car tech by BMW. What is clear though, is that BMW doesn't seem to be thinking of making their iDrive7 cars connected.

Re: BMW 3-Series Gran Limousine Review (Long Wheelbase)

This is what BMW had to say when we complained to them. Other owners with idrive7 can also put in their requests to BMW here: https://twitter.com/krishnan_r/statu...6IX1JwccQ&s=08

Mods:Request you to allow this Twitter thread to be posted here. This is not a conversation between members but with BMW India and hence doesn't replace or take away any conversation from here. Thanks

My SA called me yesterday to inform that BMW has launched sun blinds as an official accessory. He is yet to see it in person and will send me the details once he gets it.

Glad to hear this and hope they will bring it for both the G20 & G28.. I am assuming the rear window is longer in the latter.

Re: BMW 3-Series Gran Limousine Review (Long Wheelbase)

This is the picture that i received. He confirmed that its part of the official accessories. Unfortunately, he said its only for LWB version and not the regular 3-series. Will get to know pricing in a day or two.

Thanks! Doesn't look great but will be highly practical in summer.
