The 1.5 TSI in Virtus gives you a combination of benefits of high displacement and turbo - the high displacement will help below 2500 rpm, and the turbo will help above 2500 rpm. But then it costs 3x more than a 1.5 NA engine.

For that cost, VW could have fitted a 2.4 litre NA engine, and gotten better performance, without any of the huff and puff or reliability concerns of the 1.5 TSI

So my point stands - Turbo is an inferior technology, forced on the public by govt emission standards.

Maybe those who want the 3 door Kei-car version of the Jimny can contact them

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Turbo engines are not new technology eg. as in the diesel turbo Tata Indica. The so called modern turbo petrols are simply a smaller capacity 3 cylinder unbalanced engine so designed to meet emission norms and in the process save the manufacturers some money in the process. The small capacity engines are exposed to very high pressures and temperatures to extract a little more horse power only at a higher rpm range.(and not the whole band which is misleading in advertisements). Reliability is a issue and premature failures are quite common in such engines due to exposure to high stresses and quality of fuel available outside cities. New is not necessarily better. Turbo kits are anyway always available.

They messed up the photo! Should have been 5-door instead of 3-door. I guess the ones who maintain the website were so careless they didn't notice it.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

At the outset many congratulations to the proud owners who have received their mountain goats.

I just wanted to understand if anyone has observed any niggles (minor or major) in their machines so far (may include mechanical, electrical, cosmetic, infotainment-related, or any other concern). As far as I can recall a significant chunk of Mahindra Thar (closest competitor) owners had issues to report from the delivery date itself.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Checked out the Jimny today. The car has some shortcomings, but at the same time it is unlike any other car that we get to see nowadays. This one is surely special.

Btw, did any one notice that the gear shifts are very notchy and especially the first gear, it is very hard to engage the first gear. This issue was present in both the manual variants on display. What could be the reason?

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Went in to look at one today. The Zeta MT is the one seen here.

The car looks compact and for someone like me who just wants one practical "do-it-all" vehicle, this fits the bill from a sizing perspective. Like an adventure tourer that doesn't do any one thing really well, but does everything satisfactorily.

Test drives are to be made available in 10-15 days as per the dealer. And waiting period is 6-8 months.

On road pricing in Bangalore. Apologies if it has been shared before.

Being a Maruti and more of a Suzuki, Jimny should be super reliable like most of their cars. However, a gentleman managed to break few of the mechanical bits during an off roading bid. Appears like a case of things gone wrong, either by stupidity or by inexperience. Bend tow hook, a broken sway bar link rod, a bent link rod, and bushes getting displaced are the damages.

In the end, the grand dad was summoned to pull the grand kid out

Remember the ‘mentally deficient’ person who flipped the Thar upside down when doing donuts ?
And the other fellow who smashed his Thar’s Radiator on a badly judged off road attempt ?

These instances are less to do with the Vehicle and its engineering and capability and more to do with unmitigated stupidity. There is no accounting for that!

Great dude.
Are these the stock tyres. Does one really need AT tyres if not doing hardcore offroading and is not concerned with looks per say.

Please Pen down your journey soon and do compare your driving experience of Jimny with the likes of brezza, nexon or any other cars (especially in hill driving)

On steel rims which have offset, so the rims may be the reason why the tyres were touching and not the tyre size.

I was not present at the location with this group, but by witness accounts and images available, I know that the Jimny got beached on the sandy terrain with no straight line for recovery. The Gyspy was used to tug and free the Jimny at an angle. The recovery points are not designed to pull at an angle. The force required to pull the Jimny free off its predicament resulted in bent tow hook. The Sway bar is very close to the front tow hook. The strain from the tow strap bent the hook which could have hit the Sway bar and cause damage to link rod and bushes.
