Why did they let Mahindra XUV 700 take the edge when they could have achieved it as well.
I think there is more to it than meets the eye. Obviously it would not have been 5 stars but I still think the older version too will fare well and be close to 4 stars.
When the harrier and safari twins were launched, I don't think Tata ever thought safety ratings would be considered seriously, so they chose not get it tested to achive good ratings and rather used Land rover platform marketing plot to satisfy safety enthusiasts. Once they realized how much sales a 5 star rated car can bring, they waited for a proper facelift to be launched for conducting GNCAP crash testing. Because any update to chassis interim would mean they would need to undergo mandatory crash testing for homologation, unlike US market where its self certification based.
That could have been their rationale in testing now for crash ratings.

Re: 2023 Tata Safari Facelift Review

I had the chance to see the car in person during one of my recent trips. While the striking Cosmic Gold color caught my attention, I have some doubts about the color of the interior. The white/beige color of the cabin and handrails seems impractical, especially for those with children, as they are likely to get dirty quickly. Because of this, I am leaning towards choosing the dark edition. Is Tata giving options on interior colours? Like Cosmic gold with a dark interior?

Outside colour is quite eye catching - you have to see it in person:

The colour of door side handrest is white - will be accumulating dirt quite often.

Even the back door, handrest is white.

My humble request to tata is to give options for two interior colours. I am someone who like dark interiors.

Re: 2023 Tata Safari Facelift Review

Query to the reviewers and others who got to check the car out in person - Does the Safari come with an option to switch off those tent house tubelights at the front. I mean that long extension LED bar that has been added in between the earlier placed DRL's.

Cheers,
M

I just witnessed the New Safari Dark edition last night. Absolutely smashing. The connected DRL lights up only when the headlight switches on. The DRL which double up as indicators is always on, as per the TATA tech team whom I met. He says there is currently not an option to turn it off. Lets wait a few days/weeks for confirmation from other BHPians.

Also confirmed from the team that Harrier Fearless variants will all have that neon yellow interior trim. I gave him an honest feedback how polarising the yellow interior trim is. Atleast give an option or introduce Accomplished variant in the Harrier with brown or better interior color trims. I guess this could be introduced as a minor update like how TATA usually does every 6 months or so.

I recently read (or heard) in a review that the Tubelight LED (not the DRL that also works as an indicator) will only turn on when using automatic lights. However, I am not certain about this and will try to remember where I came across this information and share the link with you. During my visit to the Trichy showroom, the battery was dead and we were unable to turn on anything on the display screen of the safari. Unfortunately, it was a Sunday and the next day was a public holiday, so only a junior executive was present and unable to provide explanations.

Aren't they giving that in the Dark edition? But then you will have to go with black exterior colour also.

I know giving variants increases confusion for buyers. But, what Tata has done here is just too much, bordering on stupidity. No one should need an MBA and data interpretation skills to get to their desired model. Earlier the higher the alphabet, the higher the model and features, life was simple. XE<XM<XT<XZ<XZ+<XZ+ dark etc. But now, how is pure less than adventure. How is smart less than fearless. So If I buy fearless, am I not smart? Foolish!

Great job! I do NOT understand what the marketing team at Tata Motors is smoking these days! I mean it is so confusing to understand the variants. If this is the case with well learned auto-enthusiasts at TBHP, GOD SAVE THE GENERAL PUBLIC

My honest opinion on this new nomenclature from TaMo is counter-intuitive to the whole buying process for a potential customer.

One of my closest friends is interested in buying Harrier and he has left the choice of decision/variant to me because he said its too confusing. Else, to avoid the confusion, he wants to opt for the Fearless because he doesn’t want to miss out on any feature. I guess this is what TaMo also wanted in first place.

It will not be applicable. Saw a video the head of Tata motors said that reinforcements on the chassis has been done on the new models.

Re: 2023 Tata Safari Facelift Review

I checked out the new Safari in the showroom today. While Tata has put in a lot of efforts to make it look better inside and out it remains to be seen how they handle the niggles and other service aspects. Especially since they have added a lot of new gimmicks to the car and Tata QC is known for its goof ups.

I am 6' and did not find any fouling of the left knee. I sat in a manual version. Another thing, the gear lever is an eyesore and should have had some embellishments.

I would still rate the XUV 7OO above the Harrier and Safari in terms of looks, cabin space and overall fit and finish.

This is really helpful. Thanks for sharing this.

After considerable thoughts, I have decided to go with the gold color. Not sure though - still skeptical about the choice.
