Re: Volkswagen Vento : Test Drive & Review

Agree with noops. They should have provided the white display on the MID too. But I guess , its reserved for the next upgrade, along with BT probably?

@POLOMAN ,if you get the RCD310, is it possible to get the steering mounted controls as well. I remember having read somewhere in the forum, that the part where the controls are fitted, can be removed in the old vento. What remains, would just be the communication between the two i.e controls and unit. , if they are available for purchase that is!!

Re: Volkswagen Vento : Test Drive & Review

I would also be getting the Blue Colour..
Though I am also worried about the scratches.

Does anybody know that RCD 310 has pre outs?
If not how can one fit amplifiers?

Re: Volkswagen Vento : Test Drive & Review

^^ I have a dark blue Swift and have seen several well-maintained Shadow Blue Ventos in Pune. Methinks you folks worry too much- it is certainly one of the most eye-catching shades this car was released in (the Polo's sky blue metallic and dark grey come close, the rest of the Vento shades are tame- though black and white look classy).

Regarding colour options. Just talked to the VW dehradun guy, and was told they are not taking any booking except for white and silver for the Vento, as per a communication from VW... some new colours seem to be in the pipeline from Jan-Feb... lets see

There are few color options as of today, mostly nice - the petrol has some "nice" deals going. Cannot comment on the color options coming later. Never asked - was not told !!

2. A new USB capable ICE. (What is TP on the audio system- is it meant for the telephone (bluetooth)?
3. All the missing chrome is back in place
4.leather wrapped steering is back in place

All in all - A good deal !

The flashing red light thingy on the front side of the driver, well that is very much there. On the other hand there is no TWEETERS ..so according to the stockyard incharge - the inside intrusion thingy stays and they are totally unaware of the tweeters.

Hey I would NOT confuse the parking sensor for the surveillance system, now would I ? LOL

The red MID really looks stupid now. The South Africa spec Polo sedan (manufactured in amchi Chakan) has a white MID- VW missed a trick here.

Steering controls on just one side gives the wheel an assymetrical look. But it's a much-needed addition. The dummy bluetooth button is cheesy though- kind of like adding insult to injury!

Nice pics Ricky!

Chalo thanks accepted for the pics

And its nice to see many Vento's at one place. I think some of us from south should hijack few delivery trucks and bring them to Bangalore or Chennai from Pune. Maybe then Volkswagen will realise that people buy Vento down south as well.

The delivery time here is kind of manageable. One week or immediate are 2 options...this will last till Navratras, beyond that I have no clue

Cheers

Re: Volkswagen Vento : Test Drive & Review

Well then Lucky you.. and all the others going in for the upgraded vento!! you guys got yourself something that was sorely missed- the USb and the controls and have not lost out on any of the other valued features!!

@noops the black is one classy colour.Glad you didnt diss the black. But the swirls are so very evident on it. No matter how much I try to take care of it, the tiny swirl scratches are very evident. Plus, i had my door accidentally touching the pavement when i opened it - and the paint just scraped off immediately..leaving a white spot on the door.

Re: Volkswagen Vento : Test Drive & Review

C'mon guys I love this car too. Any criticism is to be viewed as constructive and treated positively!

The MID is *still* awesome, but you have to see the ZA car to know the difference- it looks CLASSY in white/black.

Yup- I agree dark colours are a pain to maintain. Silver and white are best in that regard.

Re: Volkswagen Vento : Test Drive & Review

It's fantastic to see so many new Vento owners out here - this Vento thread is amongst the most active ones i guess with so many regular contributors.

Sadly though, the Vento website is one of the dullest around, still listing the old features.

Interestingly, with so many reviews coming of guys having booked/ waiting deliveries for the refreshed Vento, its kind of a mixed bag feeling for me, having intentionally reserved the pre-refreshed Vento for myself. I would be taking the delivery on Dushera day, so till then my beauty is patiently waiting in the stockyard. I guess my ownership thread would be the last one for the pre-refreshed Vento!

Re: Volkswagen Vento : Test Drive & Review

Gaurav- that's because Indian automakers do NOT take their online presence seriously. They fail to realise that these days about 80% of the buying decision for at least a fraction of the target group is made online (20% at the TD!)

I haven't been to the Vento website recently but I remember it being quite boring apart from the "car configurator" which was kinda fun.

Now this is new - So is he surveillance system taken out or is it there in HL ? We have conflicting reports from Ninja & Ricky. It sounds fishy to me. I hope Trendlines are not being passed on with parking sensors, new stereo and steering mounted controls and body color door handles as highline. That might explain the missing surveillance system. Anyway before we jump into conspiracy theories it would make sense to get some clarity for this.

Re: Volkswagen Vento : Test Drive & Review

Lol. Exactly why I hadn't replied to @ricky's post. Was planning to wait till saturday to confirm the same.

To put it more simpler (boy, am I confused or what!) The thingie that was next to the rear-view mirror at the center(top) has been removed in my car. Now I didn't check if the small button type thingie on the driver window side had been removed or not.

Now before I confuse myself and create more confusion here, let me confirm this in another 48 hours

To my knowledge there are no pre-outs in RCD 310
Just search in ICE section, there are threads on amplifier setup with no-pre out oem head units.

The flashing red light thingy is there in almost all cars which has a factory fitted security/immobilizer system. It does not have anything to do with interior surveillance system. There is some sensor on the roof near the inside rear view mirrors. If that is missing, no interior surveillance.

I guess that's where the confusion was.

Btw thanks to @wildon, I just got the detailed report for my VIN. Among the various facts mentioned, one that caught my eye was this
  • Speed-related variable steering assist (Servotronic)

Wiki says this, under Electro-hydraulic systems, and not under EPS. Can someone elaborate on this?

Well yes even my Octavia had that red flashing light on the driver door. What the stockyard incharge told me was that this was the interior security system. No I did not really look for any sensor near the roof.

Cheers

HL have few more additional features like :
1. ABS
2. Airbags
3. Climatic control.
4. Alloys
5. Electric OVRMs
Few other I cannot remember now.

I dont think, they are passing TL with few additional gizmos and passing them as HL.

Re: Volkswagen Vento : Test Drive & Review

@Ninja & Ricky

In addition to the interior surveillance system can you check the backlit color of the stereo and acc with the lights turned on. I think the white on black display is probably the regular day light view. Wonder if its a blue backlit with white display with lights turned on. One other thing that would be worth checking is the engine model number and tune state. It should be 1.6 R4 16V 77KW (105 PS @ 4000 Rpm). The same 1.6TDI engine exists in different tune states like 75KW, 66KW & 55KW. But if its 85KW lets be happy about it ;-) otherwise this needs some serious introspection.
@All
Any ideas on how to check for the appropriate tune state of the engine
- wow am seriously getting paranoid now, but since there is some history on this manufacturer (or its dealers, I dont care) on being silent about adding / deleting features I dont see why I should not be..
