Re: Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon

The car is slowly but surely moving towards completion.

Here is the first glimpse of what the car looks like! Always the finishing take time, as we get to detail the car more extensively

The headlights look fantastic!
Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon-2.jpg

The original chrome has polished up very well.
Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon-3.jpg

The dash is looking good. The original glove box is to be fitted back. We have done sound dampening, which additionally should also cut the heat.

Lovely watching it progress. Do you plan to take the late Mr Srinivasan's family for a ride for nostalgia's sake once it is done?

Hopefully they will want to ride in the car, once it is restored. They have so many memories attached to this car and if they are comfortable, I will probably take them for a drive. I am in regular touch with the family.

More updates

The Lucas semaphores had survived well and after a mild refurbishment were fitted back

Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon-2.jpg

Fitted flush to the body
Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon-3.jpg

I had procured a lockable fuel cap from UK
Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon-4.jpg

As Chris says " the fuel cap and filler pipe was fitted to sit flush on the body unlike before. Sounds like a small fitting, but we had to remove the tank, do the measurements and then refit without anything showing except the fuel cap"

Accelerator linkage bushing was done

Various nobs are being fitted back and reconnected

KPS, she is looking absolutely beautiful.

When are you taking her out for a run?
Hope the pre selector gear box has the correct oil otherwise longterm damage may occur.

Thank you Bulldogji. I too am very excited as we complete the car. She is slated for the test run in the coming week.

Have been able to source the correct oil SAE 30. We need 6 litres for the engine, 3 litres for the Gearbox and 5 litres for the Fluid Flywheel.

Sharing with you a lubrication system for rear shackles and steering linkages.

As seen in the car, the expansion chamber

Re: Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon

For the last one week Srinand and me have been debating on the badges. Both of agreed that we must not overdo the same. After further discussions at home, we agreed that we should not have more than 4 badges.

The MYSORE plate was something we discussed and debated a bit about. We did not want the MYSORE to dominate the front. So the size, designed, integrating the court of arms etc was discussed in depth.

I have received invaluable support from Srinand on this exercise!

With the bumper fitted. We have not chromed the bumper
Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon-1.jpg

Post COVID, we would probably take up the chrome work
Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon-2.jpg

We place the fog lamps and look at options from the placement, to the length and possible fitment points for the Badge Bar
Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon-3.jpg

Just over the crank hole
Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon-4.jpg

The discussions still continue ......

We decided to go for 4 badges. The first 3 were easy picks

DLOC Badge
Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon-3.jpg

KVCCC Badge (old type) which came with the car
Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon-2.jpg

The AA Badge from UK
Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon-4.jpg

The Gandaberunda was gifted to me and we debated to have it on the badge bar as the 4th Badge. But we all agreed that it is more like an ornament and should not be part of the badge bar
Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon-1.jpg

The 4th Badge will the choice between RAC and British Field Sports. RAC was decided against, as it has been duplicated quite a bit
Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon-5.jpg

We discussed MYSORE or MYSORE 89 to be done with a Gandaberunda or "Mysore Court of Arms". We do not want the MYSORE to dominate the front-end

After we do the badge bar and after placing the same, we review the final combo.

Cheers

The RAC badge in this photo is not "period" for the car. It probably dates from the 1970s.

Opted out of RAC!

Engine tuning, adjustments and overall checks are being done

Adjustments being done
Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon-1.jpg

Engine is checked for signs while running
Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon-2.jpg

Temperature is monitored, a good indicator on the health of the engine
