Here is another Mark 2 in a similar colour?

In an idle conversation with a friend today - another car freak like me - the topic turned to the possibility of modifying an Amby into a pick up. Has this been done before? Any pictures available of conversion jobs?

The Fiat Super Select of 1962-63 came in this colour but it was a tad brighter shade than the Ambassador. The Ambassadors original paint in this shade looked duller and the first Mark II's appeared (1964-65) in this colour.Surprisingly Lambrettas also appeared in this shade in 1967, which was as bright as the Fiats but only for a few months.

I don't think the car is an original MKI. As per reg. no. it is around '74 model and will be a MKII.

Regn. could be from a later date too, the car being re-registered in Kerala around '74?

That could be one reason. Or may be the owner converted it to MK I?

Thanks,
Jose.

The Mark II to Mark I change is a tough job.The easiest was the Mark II to Mark 3 change.
The bumpers with the guards are from the Mark I here. The bumpers as I had said in a older post were with smooth and rounded edges in the Mark I which became ones with angular and flat edges since the Mark II and continued ever since.
Maybe the dashboard can reveal more information as the early 1960's and the 1974 dashboard are poles apart.
It is most likely that the car was re-registered in the KLF series.

As told by my a mechanic people used to change MarkIIs' to Mark IIIs' when compared to Mark I those days and it was easy aswell however MarkI were left alone as It was difficult. yes there were instances of entire body change to poor MarkI. Most changes which people used to do is Diesilising these cars as they were fav for Taxi operators and others.

I see this car almost everyday on my way to work. Makes my day in the morning I think the owner works for an ad agency off Ulsoor Rd.

Great thread, just spent a long time looking at all the pics. Grew up with two Ambassadors - a Mark III (MMD 4409 later CAP 2404) and then a Mark IV (CAP 3012). Still looking for my own Amby now..

I have also seen that car quite often, if you can get the pictures it would be great. By the way I think the color is Apple Green . The one we like.
