I have personally been convinced of these facts because have had the good fortune of seeing single owner specimens of many of these models

I second Karl here. To the best of my knowledge, till '59, amby's came with semaphores. I've seen a few single owner 1960 models, and all of them had blinkers from new.

As per my info OHV engines were introduced in MK1 from 1960( remember the ~OHV 60~ monograms and the first lot of OHV ambassadors did come with trafficators(see the brochures posted by KARL).
I have heard some single owner car guys(MK1 pre60 model) arguing that their car never came with trafficators ,just because their cars are not having them now.As the saying goes,"You can wake up a sleeping person, but you cannot wake up a guy pretending to sleep

Land master was available only till 1958. Moreover the car is not Landmaster but an Ambassador.
The KLO registration also is not 1962. KLO for Kottayam district after KLK series started after 1968.
So this Amby may be a 1962 model, but a reregistered one.

thank you for correcting,i recently bumped into this thread , got an idea about various versions and after that have been noting every ambassador to know which model.

My assumption was the ambassador which looks like this is called as landmaster

The car is re registered, the previous one was MDT

Re: Landmaster And Ambassador Picture Gallery

I learnt driving on my Dad's Landmaster bought new in the early fifties. I still have the original invoice and receipt somewhere. I'll post a scanned copy as soon as I locate it. We had some truly memorable trips in the car.

That is a nice way to learn to drive. Do search out the original invoice more valuable than the car itself.
The landmaster in those days would have come at below Rs 7000.

The KLO registration started only from 1970 only.
Even KLV(the second series in Trivandrum) started in 1968 only

Re: Landmaster And Ambassador Picture Gallery

Fabulous car Shasun! And it looks in really good condition too. I've had an Avigo for the past couple of years. Its pretty but there's nothing like a real retro car as opposed to one that just looks retro
Just wanted to check with you where you got your car interiors done... the door panels, in particular seem very well done and I'm struggling with the ones in my car. I think what you've got is leatherite? I've got cardboard and cloth and they get ruined every monsoon..
Do let me know

Thanks

The State Government Ambassadors are sold/auctioned by the respective departments that own them.Like each Collectorate has a protocol department for VIP visits. They have a pretty new fleet always to cater to the needs of VIP's visiting the area. So if you are interested in the newer ones its always advisable to contact the vehicle section of the Collectorate. Or else, if you are interested in an older one- its almost very tough to find a 1970's or earlier Ambassador,as the motor vehicles upon completing a specific mileage (its 150,000 kms or 10 years whichever is later-I am not sure of the latest categorization) are recommended for write off action and then sold or auctioned.Sometimes these are bought in bulk for a pittance by some purchasers who resell or scrap them to sell the spares.

Re: Landmaster And Ambassador Picture Gallery

Dear All,

Y'day I saw this very original Ambassador Mark 3 in Cochin. Externally this car looks very original with every bits and pieces. The interior seems like it's be done. I have no idea about the engine. The car looks like a daily drive. And it was driven by a young guy.

I hope one day I can lay my hands on an original Ambi like this with an 1.8 ltr Isuzu engine.

Thanks,
Jose.
