The man wasn't hit. The open window edge broke the windshield.

True that.
IMHO, It was a perfect reverse parking, if that window pane was not open.

It was the window which led to this. Had the window not been open, the jaw would have been considered fragile

As commented above, the window frame (sharp corner) broke the glass and probably saved his face from getting hit (if it is was a little behind the window frame edge).

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Some time back, a fellow BHPian was looking for solutions to help him reverse park in a tight space.

Jump to 1:27 directly for accident. Not sure what is the first one minute about in this video, where it emphasizes on Tata and its Altroz and some crash tests.

I need to work on my observation skills. That said, the man appears unfazed by this 1 plus tonne car's midriff hit. Hope he's fine.

Luckily the vehicle stopped leaving just enough space for the man not to get crushed, he was lucky. He is just going about like business as usual but would have realized for sure that he had a close shave.
Can't blame him, he was plain unaware of the danger of putting himself between the reversing vehicle and the wall. This is a very common scenario and people do it all the time.
Shows how important having presence of mind and plain common sense at all times are. Safety first.

Perhaps the driver could have driven a bit more slow, considering a single lane rural road with traffic ?

This is typical of an automatic driver's foible. One of the key things for newbie automatic drivers is to modulate the throttle response. Thats all they have got as a direct control, besides the handbrake. The manuals with their clutch brake system can do a better job of modulating the vehicle motion sometimes.

By the way, this could also be the effect of a tired man reverse-parking his car after a long journey. Muscular tension after long drives can sometimes lead to erratic throttle control.

Damn. His chin broke off the rear glass. Thank God the car stopped at the last moment, or result would be a lot more gruesome. Never stand in the path of an idiot, even if he is in a car.

IMO, the car driver was driving extremely cautiously, travelling at the same speed (ideal speed) as that of the mini tempo ahead while keeping a very safe distance from it. He even slowed down upon spotting cattle on the road. It's unfair to pin any blame on him despite of video evidence.
The cattle unfortunately moved at very last microsecond & realistically, no one would have managed to avoid the hit (a Formula 1 driver with their lightning reflexes probably?)
I am just glad that he invested in a dash cam, ~5k investment, that saved him double that amount upfront and more than money, saving him a boat load of trouble with upset villagers.

Another example of how important a dash cam really is.

Yes, it wasn't his chin that broke the glass, but neither did the window frame. Take a look at the 2 screen grabs below.
1. shows how his midriff is pressed into the rear hatch. The driver also seems to have applied the brakes at the very last second, thus preventing the 1.4 tonne behemoth from squishing the man & potentially being fatal. But not all looks okay.
2. look at the imprint the man's torso has made into the rear hatch. This is what has shattered the glass. The window pane was a few inches away, towards the curved side of the glass and showed no movement.
Also a reminder to all on where not to stand when a vehicle is reversing.

The man has definitely taken quite an impact. Hope he got himself checked out at a hospital pronto.

I assume, had the scooterist not ran behind the car, they would have stopped. This growing aggression in fellow road users is not a good thing. According to me, after the hit, this guy should have considered walking the lady and the toddler to the shoulder instead of chasing the car.
