Seems like it did make the news after all.

They say it's an EV. Any idea which EV it looks like?
It's not an EV. It's a KWID.

Thanks for that. I said EV because the earlier newscaster said "battery car".

I suppose the only good thing to come out of this is that there were no casualties, thankfully.

Re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Rental car are proving to be a menace in Goa these days. Almost every day we see multiple accidents involving mostly rental cars. A tourist suffered serious injuries after the high-speed rental car he was driving collided with a divider. The impact of the collision was so severe that the driver was forcefully ejected from the vehicle

One of the occupants of the car has succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment in the hospital.

Goa seriously has to put speed governors for these vehicles

I agree that tourist, unfamiliar vehicle, unfamiliar roads and higher speeds are dangerous combination. Add booze to the mix, situation becomes worse.

Though speed governors can limit speed, they cannot limit stupidity. A vehicle driven even at 50~60kmph is quite dangerous if the driver is idiot.

While driving in a new area/ city, I am always extra cautious. There could be potholes, speed breakers, merging roads, unfamiliar turns (not updated on Google Maps) and so on.

Rental cars are almost always driven recklessly on our roads irrespective of the location.
If you want to be on the safer side, the first reaction on seeing a vehicle with black-yellow registration plate should be to keep as much distance from such vehicles as possible.

Re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

When we last drove a rental car (Zoomcar in September last year), there was a speed limiter of 80 kmph installed.

But the car was horribly maintained, the Check Engine Light was permanently on, all fluids were running low, and we realised during a routine overtake attempt that lack of power to complete an overtake is dangerous as well.

So speed limiters are not the complete solution to this issue. It's like having only paracetamol when you're down with COVID. It addresses only a few symptoms.

Reckless drivers can be reckless at any speed.

Re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Tragedy struck a family from Sanguem village in Goa wherein a father, mother and their five-year-old son met a watery grave when the car (Maruti Zen) in which they were travelling plunged into the river from a Bridge. The police managed to retrieve the bodies of the bodies of the woman and her son , the third body of the father was recovered today morning

Video of the car being removed

The accident spot. Notice how the bridge doesn't have any guardrail or crash barriers at the beginning of the bridge. That the the exact spot from where the car plunged into the river

For a change, an accident from the late 1960's. The State Transport, bus a Tata Mercedes Benz hit a Lambretta Li 150 Series II. Its from an old newspaper cutting and as far as I remember, the scooter rider was injured.

Three lives were snuffed out in a horrific accident reported on approach road of the Banastarim Bridge in Goa on Sunday evening when a speeding Mercedes GLS 350 SUV rammed into oncoming traffic. The vehicle proceeding towards Panjim mowed down two two-wheelers and collided against three cars proceeding towards Ponda.

According to eyewitnesses, the speeding Mercedes car on reaching the approach road on the bridge went in the opposite direction and knocked down oncoming two two-wheelers before colliding with three cars and landed on the footpath.

The locals suspected that the driver was under the influence of alcohol and demanded the driver be subjected to alcometer test and that he should be placed under arrest and his license be suspended.

48-year-old Paresh A. Sinai Sawardekar was arrested on Monday for allegedly driving his vehicle under the influence of alcohol and killing three people on Sunday night in an accident at Banastarim bridge.

Re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Saw this video on my YT feed -

Looks like the biker is at fault here, though, the truck seems to be overspeeding.

However, the road looks like a NH with proper intersection markings and other identifiers.

Why? Why are bikers always in a hurry OR they never bother to check the traffic when attempting a turn?
Hope the truck driver is safe, and the CCTV footage should spare him from further troubles and harassment with the law enforcement agencies.

AND, the biker..?

Truck was more than speeding. Looks like he is coming down a ghat section, and it is a sharp right. Either of both if true then the road opening is incorrectly positioned.

Bikers, Well they behaved in the way thats normal for them. Slow speed, left hard shoulder to 1st track, that too for a intersection, mirrors are safely kept at home, no shoulder/head check. Trucker should have known better on Indian roads!

Both are at fault; the biker for not checking what was coming from behind before turning and the truck for overspeeding! However, the high centre of gravity of the truck also contributed to the mishap. These days, the load bodies of most Indian trucks are built sky high which results in poor CG and accidents such as this. The AIS-093 standard for truck body construction was created in 2010 but is yet to be implemented because of the pulls and pressure exerted by the truck operator lobby which is least interested in road safety. Best is that the entire truck body is built by the truck manufacturers.

And there goes the charge of DUI, unless alcometer test/ blood sample was taken immediately after the accident.
