Well, I think I'll take the first route option mentined by you Ravi. Even I was assuming the distance to be above 150 kms from Dharmasthala to Kollur.
Thanks,
Regards

Hari.

Else try NH17 Dharmastala - Beltangadi - mulki - udupi - Kundapura - Vandse - jadkal - kollur.

Hope this won't create confusion

As ravi has suggested you can try out the above 2 routes.

This route is fun to drive, though lots of winding road will take more time

Its good to hear Shiradi Ghat is opened for traffic but very unfortunate that heavy over loaded lorrries (mostly Mine lorries) already started travelling there with 30+ ton ores. Words have come from experts/villagers road won't last long! Very unfortunate, So its better people cover these areas for site seeing now itself

I realized in india we should choose the place based on road conditions for healthy trips!

Regards,

Ravi.

Well guys, got my car back from service yesterday and all set to take off early tomorrow.

Route I'm considering :

Day 1 : Bangalore-Nelamangala-Kunigal-Channarayapatna-Hassan-Sakleshpur-Kukke-Dharmasthala.

Day2: Dharmasthala-Ujire-Belthangady-Karkala-Someshwara-Vandse-Jadkal-Kollur- Golihole-Bhatkal-Murudeshwar

Day3: Murudeshwar-Honnavar-Sagar-Shimoga-Arsikere-Tiptur-Tumkur-Bangalore.

The second day's travel is through new places for me, hope the roads are good.

Cheers.

Hari.

.
Did a recent trip to shimoga, be careful abt the sudden speed breakers between tiptur - tumkur n small potholes, rest of the road is good

Well returned on monday night, still haven't got around to writing a travelogue.

There was a slight change in my original plan. Since I left home at 4 am, we reached Kukke by 9 am after breakfast at Hassan. Dharmasthala was lapped up by 12 noon, so decided to skip halt at Dharmasthala and continue on to Murudeshwar after the visit to Udupi.

Reached Murudeshwar by 7 pm.

Roads from B'lore to gundya are good, Gundya to Kukke excellent, Kukke to Dharmasthala again very good.

Dharmasthala to Udupi via Karkala is good but not as good as the previous ones.

Udupi to Murudeshwar is nerve wracking especially at the end of a long drive, road suddenly gets bad, incessant slow moving traffic and rain to boot.

If you plan to take this stretch, set your mind to go very slow to avoid any potential damage. Bad but do-able.

Was reading this other post about a route via mysore, I am planning to take that instead of Hassan.
