re: Bangalore - Kukke Subramanya : Route Queries

Had a good trip. Thanks to Prasad14 and Mapmyindia Roadpilot, trip was no problem at all. Hawk14277 saved my effort on mentioning about the roads. It's as detailed as it could get

Few finer points,

- Stop at Kamath Hotel for a pit stop. Decent food. It has an attached Cafe Coffee and a petrol bunk to make it better.
- I wanted to stay in SLR residency but they denied a booking over call and hence went for Sheshnag Residency as Prasad14 suggested. Good place to stay in and was surprised to get something like this in a remote area like Kukke Subramanya.

Pics of road, hotel and the temple coming up in a couple of days.

re: Bangalore - Kukke Subramanya : Route Queries

I am planning to do the following itinerary between 4 and 7 June (4 days) - Kukke, Dharmastala, Sringeri and Udupi. Can you please suggest which is the best order to do them in? I currently have this as
Day 1 - Bangalore - Kukke - Darmastala (night halt at Darmastala / Ujire)
Day 2 - Udupi (night halt)
Day 3 - Sringeri (night halt)
Day 4 - Drive back

Please suggest
1. If the order is ok or can be changed
2. Road conditions ( have a NHC - so road condition is a key factor in deciding which route to take, considering the ground clearance)
3. Stay options

thanks in advance

Order is OK.

I am not sure about accomodation in Dharmasthala as we had stayed in temple guest house once. In Udupi we had stayed in Hotel Sharada and it was good. Sringeri again does not have great options other than mutt guest houses which are basic. I would recommend you to stay in Tirthahalli as you can have some good home stay options and then have a lovely drive to Bangalore via Sringeri - can also visit KUVEMPU's beautiful house on the way. From Udupi, you can come to Tirthahalli after Agumbe instead of Sringeri.

Sure ! But I guess you need some time before the little one is ready for road trips.

re: Bangalore - Kukke Subramanya : Route Queries

Consider this route:

Chikmagalur-Belur - Fine
Belur- Sakleshpura - Don't know the state of road
Sakleshpura-Gundya-Subramanya - Fine.

Chikmagalur - Belur stretch is ok but the Belur - Sakleshpur stretch was a bit too bumpy and rough. I did this stretch in May... road might have been relaid now but I am not sure. Won't matter since you are in a 4x4

2 routes to chikmagalur -

1. Bangalore - Tumkur - tiptur - Arsikere - chikmagalur
2. Bangalore - Hassan - Belur - chikmagalur

Start as early as possible if you are taking route 2 - preferrably by 5am or so to avoid traffic on the highway. NH48 is a 2-lane highway beyond Bellur cross and the new 6 lane road isn't fully ready yet. It can get really crowded with huge amount of traffic on weekends on the 2 lane highway.

Personally, I prefer route 1 via NH 206 since it is less crowded and there is no menace of mining trucks and oil tankers (as in NH48). However, Nh48 is more scenic Take your pick. Both routes are almost of same length
