re: Pune to Hyderabad : Route Queries

Just completed my return journey Hyd-Pune-Hyd. Since we had kids traveling with us, it took us 10 hrs with 1.5 hr break. Started from Jubilee Hills at 8:15 and reached Magarpatta at 6 PM and during our return started from Pune at 9 AM and reached Hyderabad at about 7 PM or so. Both ways we took couple of bio breaks of 45mins each. On our return we stopped at Gujarat Hotel at Bidar just before Basavakalyan, toilets we just ok and food just about average.

Pune-Solapur is a breeze, even though the traffic is high and the road is not as great as NH7 - Surprisingly a 10km stretch through Tembruni is not done and get clogged in my opinion.

But the Solapur-Hyderabad stretch is a little bit of a pain and gets bad during the Naldurg to Umerga stretch is a bad shape with high traffic, esp that of two wheelers, which is surprisingly high in MH part of the drive, but drastically reduces in KA and TS stretches. Fortunately my Duster did not mind the occasional bumps and potholes on this stretch. On our return from Pune, it was end of Sankranthi festivities and we hit heavy traffic from Zaheerabad post 5 PM and long train of trucks and buses made the progress extremely slow.

8.5 hrs - 9.5hrs with minimal breaks is doable.

re: Pune to Hyderabad : Route Queries

Did anyone do the Pune-Hyd via Solapur-Gulbarga-Sedam route? I've somewhere else that the Solapur->Akkalkot stretch is tarred. Any recent updates on this please.
I'm planning to prefer this over the NH9 as the latest update still states that NH9 between Solapur and Zaheerabad is still bad.

re: Pune to Hyderabad : Route Queries

Hi Rav11star,
I did a Hyderabad - Malkhed - Hyderabad last month. (Just short of Gulbarga). The road is above average, and can be taken without much thought about it.

I am planning to do Hyderabad - Phandarpur - Hyderabad this weekend, and looks like have to take the usual Hyd-Sholapur-Hyd route.

I have heard nightmares about this route. Can anyone give me a current state about this route. And if you have traveled exactly to Phandarpur, please give me more information about hotel and related information also. I will stay for one night in Phandarpur.

Regards,
Karthik Iyer

re: Pune to Hyderabad : Route Queries

Hi Everyone,
I took the trip to Pandharpur in the last two days, and it was a very good trip.
The route is Hyderabad - Solapur - Pandharipur.

I thought to update this thread with the latest information between Hyderabad and Solapur. It took around 1 hour to complete the Zaheerabad - Humnabad stretch. This stretch is OK considering what I heard it used to be earlier. The stretch between Humnabad to Umerga is not very good. Heavy patching work done, and still number of potholes on the sides of the road. It becomes difficult to judge an overtaking of heavy vehicles, as you can find a bad pothole anytime on high speed. Thanks to the extremely heavy traffic (as rightly mentioned by adityarao in earlier update - train of trucks and bus), the overtaking has to be done real quick, and these bad patches adds to the agony.

Solapur Pune looks to be good due to the four lane toll road. I could not do the entire stretch as I had to take an exit at Mohol (around 30 kms in the Solapur-Pune highway) for Pandharpur.

This was my first trip on the Hyderabad - Solapur road, and it leaves me sad and confused as why this extremely heavy traffic route has been left neglected for so long. The '4 lane work in progress' sighboards looks to be farse, as there are hardly any people working on the project. At this pace, it may take a minimum of 2 years to take some shape.

To summarize the Hyd-Solapur stretch, it is an average road where we can maintain speeds of 65-75 kmph. It is a single road without dividers, with very high level of heavy vehicle movement on both sides.

Regards,
Karthik Iyer

Sorry if this response is too late.

I have done that route in the past and it is not worth the extra 100+ kms (Close to 150 I think)

NH-9 is still the better, shorter and quicker option.

re: Pune to Hyderabad : Route Queries

Well a word of caution for anyone planning to do the Hyderabad Pune road trip. I just did that about a week ago and I can classify that as the most and the only painful drives that I have done. I have done 880 kms and 950 kms on my Corolla and me being the lone driver, have managed this in a day with enough energy to spare. The 585kms between Gachibowli and Hinjewadi Pune ended up being an ordeal. Long story short, the route from Hyderabad to Solapur is riddled with potholes and on a bad day can prove to be fatal for two wheelers and low hatchbacks. The traffic is heavy and unorganized. You have crossed three states of Telangana, Karnataka and Maharashtra by the time you get to Solapur and surprisingly each stretch is a pain. With this being such a busy route, this comes as a surprise then that no one has paid attention to do a four laning. You can see numerous boards mentioning Men at Work....neither do you find men nor work happening. Only saving grace is some work that you find on solitary patches in Telangana but at a snails pace. The road from Solapur to Pune is a breeze with lesser traffic.

I would recommend anyone planning to do a road trip on this stretch to avoid it for sometime unless you have no other options. Wish we could do something by way of this forum to bring attention from the government to this sad state of affairs.

Hi!,

I travelled on Pune-Solapur-Humnabad-Zaheerabad-Hyderabad route twice last week - May 1st (Sonata Embera) and May 6th (i20).

Frankly, the road between Solapur-Hyderabad is much more better than what it was last year. I could easily maintain 80 kmph+ most of the stretches. Yes! needs close attention to avoid unpredictable potholes - but that is Indian Road Condition story. Good days are yet to come

Pune-Solapur is a breeze with painful 10 odd km stretch around Tembhurni.

Enjoy!

Apparantly .. the conditions aren't great between Hyderabad and Solapur.
From the feedback I got from my friend, the things are particularly bad between Hyd and Zaheerabad side.

Planning for Hyd - Pune - Hyd in 8 years old Alto with Family on 30-May. Don't have an aggressive target but aim is to reach in 12 hours max with 1-2 hours of break.

Planning to start as early as 4:30 AM in the morning and just hope that the scorching sun does not play a spoil sport .

Re: Pune to Hyderabad Route update

Yesterday (3 june) drove from Pune to Hyderabad in Nano with wife and 2 kids and some baggage Stuck to NH9 all the way. Driving time was 10 hours with a total break time of 1 and half hour.

Road till Sholapur is good as described in earlier posts. Average of 70kph is piece of cake. From there quality of road goes downhill while road itself goes uphill. It is still two lane undivided highway all the way till Sangareddy for about 250 km. Only a 5 km stretch after about 50km from sholapur is in very bad shape where sometimes traffic crawls. The rest of the distance road surface is rough but speeds of 60-80 are doable easily. Roads get slightly better inside Karnataka boarder till Humnabad, after which till TG border they are just average.

Despite the ever going on 4 laning, there is nothing to rant about in the 300km experience between Sholapur and Hyderabad. However, if one has never faced bad roads during their time behind the wheel, then be prepared to face the stretch with extra dose of patience, you will be home in no time.

Returned from Pune on 6-Jun, Overall experience was good but one observation, in general the road until Karnatka borders is scraped but fortunately the traffic is sparse. The moment we leave Karnataka border and into Maharashtra until Solapur, the roads become narrow and the traffic increases manifold making overtaking a difficult task, to top it all the road at some stretches really become bad. From Solapur to Pune its a cake walk and fun to drive.

re: Pune to Hyderabad : Route Queries

Folks, I am planning to travel to Pune (or nearby) in last week of this month.
Considering the miserable condition of drive on Hyderabad-Solapur stretch via NH9, I was just wondering whether any one tried using Hyderabad-Gulbarga-Solapur route.

People keep doing Hyd -> Gul via Pargi and Sedam to avoid NH9 while going towards Goa and its decent enough.

However I am not very sure of conditions between Gulbarga & Solapur, GoogleMaps does show some options but need some first hand input to really take it on.
