I did HYD-Pune 20days back.Road is just about ok.HYD-Solapur:Ok to good stretches. No very good or excellent stretches.

Solapur to Indapur very good condition.

Indapur to Pune:Very bad, absolutely no road shoulder.Night driving a big no.Existing road is pathetic with potholes as big as wells.

I am driving back next week and intend to take the route via Baramati which would save you the trouble of driving on the bad stretches between Pune & Indapur.

Ashish, any new developments on this road?We might drive back via Shirdi-Tembhurni-Solapur-Hyd.

NH24 from Moradabad to Bareilly is closed to traffic, with flood water up to 3 feet in depth at places. Flood waters have entered Moradabad city as well. Some folks riding from Delhi to Mahendranagar have been stuck this morning, and one RE drowned in flood waters after Rampur.

Incredible, the havoc the monsoons have caused this year in North India.

NH8 between Ghodbunder & Vapi (Bombay-Ahmedabad highway)
NH8 between Beawar & Ajmer (Udaipur-Jaipur highway)
NH75 between Jhansi & Chhatarpur (highway to Kajuraho)

The news channels on television have not indicated the exact places which are flooded on the NH24. Moradabad to Bareilly will likely take one through Rampur and Milak. I would have expected the flooding of the Tehri dam in Tehri to affect the NH24 somewhere near Garhmukteshwar-Gajraula as that is the area where the Ganga passes through.

SS-Traveller,

1. Any idea on when the NH24 will be opened?
2. Any idea about the state of the NH87 (from Rampur through Bilaspur, Rudrapur, Pantnagar and thence onto Haldwani, Kathgodam to Bhowali? There is a 'voyage' planned through that route in ten days' time.
3. Who is an RE?

Regards

More heavy rains are predicted in west UP and UK over the next 2-3 days. So you never know when connectivity will be restored.
But looks like monsoon is retreating. PB and HP got little rains, and that too scattered, with heaviest being a few mm. Currently the active region is Delhi and West UP.

Uttarakhand seems to be the worst affected, with several districts affected by heavy rains. Expect landslides and road blockades everywhere on the pilgrim trail.

NH28 between Muzaffarpur and Gorakhpur, via Gopalganj and Kushinagar, is closed due to flooding. This highway is part of the East-West Corridor, and 4-laning of this section was already completed, so here is a sign of things to come.

Some boarding schools in Almora district have advised parents not to travel for the next fortnight. The NH87 from Haldwani -Nainital and Haldwani-Bhowali-Ranikhet are badly affected.

(hvk is right - the pilgrim routes will be inaccessible now).
I think voyages have to be deferred in light of the flooding of the Bhagirathi in Garhwal and the landslides in Kumaon, overall. The Pithoragarh district is particularly vulnerable to landslides. The Bhagirathi is going to flood the Tehri dam and once its gates are opened, Rishikesh and Hardwar are in the line of fire.

Terrible.

Updates will help.

NH5 - what is the condition?

Was searching this thread for getting some update on the NH5 - Chennai-Kolkata, but seems like nobody is travelling on that route these days! No updates about the route during this year .
Has anyone done Hyderabad - kolkata or chennai -kolkata recently? Would like to get some update on the current condition of the route as I am planning a Hyd-Kol run next month.
Thanx.

NH24 opened to traffic till Moradabad today, but the road surface has been washed out, so expect 10 km/h to be the average speed after Garh Mukteshwar. The Rampur section is still flooded apparently.

RE is a Royal Enfield.

Indeed...! Gurgaon now looks like a village with water logging every where. There are no roads - only potholes, and this is no exaggeration. What ever little is left gives you an outline of a road that once existed...!

Its incredible that the so called '4th powerful country' cant make roads that can weather a monsoon...!

Not much traffic on the NH5! But I heard that, as usual, the roads after entering Orissa are not good. The rest of the route is good. Why don't you PM KALINGA - he is based in Bhubaneswar and may have a better idea?
