Yup, I did a Nagaur-didwana-Kuchaman-Sambhar-Dadu on way back.
you can directly go via excellent toll road from Kishangarh to didwana, but the Didwana-Nagaur stretch is a pain. Road is narrow, so every bus means getting off the road, and at places the berms are not pleasant. Moreover the road itself is pretty bumpy in places. Its 100+ kms of hellish driving.
going through didwana is not a problem because its a small town and jams are pretty rare.

Nagaur - Merta and Nagaur - Didwana both have this single lane stretches. AND is it 100kms of bad road? I thought the total Nagaur - Didwana was that sort of distance....

Anyways this is going a little Ot to the question asked by another member on getting to Jaisalmer.

Well we are discussing the best route to jaisalmer.. So its okay
Didwana-Nagaur is 100kms. the entire stretch is bumpy and very narrow road with trucks and buses. Overtaking is a major pain because buses etc., at 60kmph will not get off the road to let you pass, and if you go off the road, 60kmph is not possible.
Nagaur to Phalodi is around 150kms I think and though its narrow its not as bumpy. We did it in less than 2 hours because the traffic was very low

Hey Sudev, Tanveer, gd1418, appreciate your discussion for solving my query guys. Only thing is, I'm getting kinda confused as I haven't been to these parts and you guys are pretty familiar with them. My itinerary is as follows:

Day 1: Reach Manvar resorts/camps - It's somewhere between Jodhpur-Jaisalmer. So request you guys to provide me with an optimal route from Noida (say G'gaon) to reach Jodhpur. I guess I'll have to ask for further directions to Manvar Camps from there. But if you fellas know the complete directions to Manvar resort, it would be a great for me.

Day 2: Manvar - Jaisalmer: Will decide then and there only.

Day 3: Jaisalmer and around.

Day 4: Jaisalmer - Noida: Appreciate if you would again provide me with the optimal route to take.

Why go to Manvar(unless you have booked there).
Go to Jaisalmer.
If you leave at 6am, you will be at Jaisalmer by 6pm.

Manvar resorts is between Jodhpur & Pokharan before Dechoo. It is actually a village called Khiyasariya. The best route is - MapmyIndia - maps, directions, and local search across India - just search, print and go!

Jaisalmer's gonna be packed with tourists as it's gonna be the Xmas weekend (info from Aishah @ indiamike). Manvar's way off the normal tourist spots and I wanted to spend a night in the desert away from the noise that a crowd generates (wishing had a 4x4 beastie like yours ). Also the area is pretty virgin as opposed to the SAM and Khuri (something like that) areas near Jaisalmer. What's your thought on that?

We have already discussed variou route options above.

Manvar the resort is situated ~12km before Dechu on Jodhpur-Jaisalmer highway. They also have a desert camp which is ~5k from the resort. You can drive up there in a car. It is not so way off or unkown so expect it to be busy too unless you have prior acco booked. Both are nice place to stay.

I'd advise a night at Fort Pokharan hotel as an aditional day or instead of Manwar. Dechu-Pokharan is about 45 minutes of drive and quite cheap (at least what it cost us). It depends a lot on your tastes and budgets.

The last is doable in a day and quite and enjoyable drive if you love driving.

Are there sand dunes around the Fort? If so, are there facilities to allow one to spend a night amongst the dunes?

The best way is to spend night in Jaisalmer. And then next noon, take a safari into the dunes. Spend the night there. With food it costs 1400/person for the whole thing(transfer to and from dunes, camel ride, sleep on sand(it gets very cold though) and food)

Me too for jaisalmer

Hi friends, i am booked fro 24th to 27th at Himmatgarh palace at jaisalmer. Now the dilemma is to leave on 23rd Dec or 24th december early morning. I have two small kids, so i was wondering if i could break the journey at ajmer/kishangarh/ or even jaipur.
Another query is, whether I should take my 3 yr old baleno (with new footwear) or innova (for diesel economy). pls suggest

Shiv - Why would you not take the Innova

With kids I'd suggest the innova only.

Guys planning to do Jaisalmer with family - Help me in finalising the route

Route 1
Delhi - Gurgaon - Dharuhera - Behror - Kotputli - Shahpura - Jaipur - Bagru - Kishagarh - Pushkar via NH8
Pushkar - Mundwa - Nagaur via NH89
Nagaur - Panchori - Phalodi via State Highway
Phalodi - Pokharan - Jaisalmer via NH15

Route 2
Delhi - Fatehpur ( Which route is best )
Fatehpur - Bikaner via NH 11
Phalodi - Pokharan - Jaisalmer via NH15

Which route is preferable from a timing standpoint ...plan to start at 6 am early morning & will stop either at Bikaner or Pokharan ..depending on tiredness or traffic..

Also need help on Route 2 - How to do Delhi to Fatehpur - am confused here

If you want to take Nagaur route, take the highway from Kishangarh to Nagaur.
It skirts kuchaman and has less traffic(tolled road),
From Nagaur to Pokhran its not so good, but roads get excellend after you hit NH15
