re: Delhi To Jaisalmer : Route Queries

Why come to Delhi? Reach Jaipur and start and end from there or Jodhpur.

re: Delhi To Jaisalmer : Route Queries

I am planning to go to Bikaner next month. But since I stay in Rohini-Delhi, going through Gurgaon-Chomu route might be too tedious.

Any clue on the road conditions for

"Delhi-Bahadurgarh-Jhajjar-Charkhi Dadri- Loharu-Jhunjhunu-Fatehpur-Ratangarh-Bikaner"

or

"Delhi-Rohtak-Bhiwani-Loharu-Jhunjhunu-Fatehpur-Ratangarh-Bikaner"

Both are good options but change from Jhunjhunu to Rattangarh and hence to Bikaner.

I'm planning a trip from Delhi -Jaipur-Jodhpur- Jaisalmer-Bikaner-Delhi.
Day 1 - start in the evening Delhi to Jaipur and halt at night.
Day 2 - Jaipur to Jodhpur (need inputs on the road conditions and route to take), stay.
Day 3 - Jodhpur sightseeing.
Day 4 - Jodhpur - Jaisalmer ( need input on road conditions) stay in camp
Day 5 - Jaisalmer sightseeing.
Day 6 - Jaisalmer - Bikaner, stay in Bikaner (need input n road conditions)
Day 7 - Bikaner - Delhi (need Input on road route and road conditions).

I've made the bookings and we travelling with family with kids. Please let me know about road conditions, route and recommended highway stops in between. Also where to tank up as it seems the fuel quality really dips in these parts. Also, any eating place or thing to do which you think shouldn't be missed.

Have Ben using trip advisor and other sites to plan the trip. Any input will be really appreciated. Thanks.

re: Delhi To Jaisalmer : Route Queries

All roads are good.

Bikaner-Delhi youcan take shorter route vis Fatehpur, Mandawa, Jhunjhunu, Chirawa onward. From Chirawa you need to decide where you want to go.
North / West Delhi go to Charkhi Dadri - Bhadurgarh - Delhi.
South Delhi go to Narnaul - Rewari - Gurgaon.

Or you can stick to NH 11 till Jaipur and then NH8 to Delhi. And here if you are going to Noida then NH11 to wards Agra, detour to Mathur and get on the Taj expressway.

I am doing a Delhi-Jodhpur-Bikaner-Jaisalmer trip in January. The last day of the trip will involve driving back from Jaisalmer to Delhi. I've planned Jaisalmer-Bikaner-Fatehpur-Mandawa-Jhunjhunu-Chirawa-Narnaul-Rewari-Gurgaon-Dwarka. Its about 780kms door to door. Some questions for the experts:

1. How are the current route conditions?
2. The earliest we can start from Jaisalmer is 6AM. Is it ok if I factor in 15 hrs driving time? In that case, what are suggested stops for breakfast and lunch?
3. Considering I'll be travelling with my wife, is there a safety issue anywhere on this stretch?
4. Any other pointers I should be aware of?

re: Delhi To Jaisalmer : Route Queries

@predatorwheelz - Bikaner-Fatehpur-Mandawa-Jhunjhunu-Chirawa-Narnaul-Rewari-Gurgaon did this Sunday last. Except for Fatehpur-Mandawa reasonable.

If you are going to Dwarka why come to NH8? From Chirawa continue to Cahrkhi Dadri-Jhajjar-Bhadurgarh-Dwarka See https://www.google.co.in/maps/dir/Dw...28.2415999!5i2

Avoid the Bilaspur-Manesar-Gurgaon mess.

Have done Jaisalmer-Delhi in a day few times and is not an issue. Normal precautions suffice.

re: Delhi To Jaisalmer : Route Queries

Hi Guys,

planning for a trip around last week of December. Following is my proposed itinerary so far considering all the discussion happened in theis so informative thread:

Day1 - Delhi to Bikaner
West Delhi-Bahadurgarh-Jhajjar-Loharu-Chirawa-Jhunjunu-Fatehpur-Ratangarh-Bikaner

Is this better than going though NH8?

Day 2 Bikaner to Jaisalmer
Bikaner - Phalodi- Pokhran

Day 3 Jaisalmer- Sam Dunes or any other better alternative??

Day 4 Jaisalmer - Jaipur
Jaisalmer - Pokhran - Phalodi -Nagaur - Makrana - Dudu - Jaipur

Is it easily doable?

Day 5 Jaipur to Delhi Via NH8

I wish to ask the amount of maximum driving time on each day and since i am taking my Gypsy for the trip the top speed at which i would be cruising is around 90-100 and normal cruising will be around 80-90 kmph.

Any alteration or tips in the itinerary is most welcome by you guys.

Thanks.

re: Delhi To Jaisalmer : Route Queries

Hi. I recently did Delhi Bikaner via Narnaul-Chirawa-Jhunjhunu route. You may look it up on Delhi-Bikaner thread.
Given that you are in West Delhi, you can take the Bahadurgarh route till Loharu.
It is significantly superior to NH8, which is a complete mess. My South Delhi to Bikaner time was 8.5 hours. You have to be mindful that there is not much to eat/ stop along the way.
You may like to budget additional 1 hour and stop at Mandawa Castle for Lunch. It was an excellent midway point to stop.

@Hiteshs77 Oh...you missed excellent authentic food outlet just before Jhunjhunu - Ridhi Sidhi Dhaba - at Bagar. Super stuff.
Mandawa castle is great too.

Route update

Just did the following route today. 745 kms, 11.5 hours driving time door to door with one lunch stop.

Jaisalmer-Bikaner-Fatehpur-Mandawa-Jhunjhunu-Chirawa-Loharu-Charkhi Dadri-Jhajjar-Bhadurgarh-Dwarka

I will update on the route in 4 parts:

Jaisalmer-Bikaner (330 kms): Road condition is amazing. Dual carriageway road, no broken stretch anywhere. Just be wary of wild animals jumping on the road if you're driving in the night or early morning.

Today I took short of 3.5 hours to travel the distance from my Jaisalmer hotel to Bikaner Junagarh circle. See the pic below. Note the average speed .

Delhi To Jaisalmer : Route Queries-img_20150108_102932_hdr.jpg

Bikaner-Fatehpur (170 kms): The road is entirely NH11. Too much road construction work going on, will slow you down at repeated intervals. Also too much cattle on the road. But you can make brisk progress.

Fatehpur-Loharu (100 kms) The shortest stretch, but will take the longest time. Road is all rural highways/city roads. Unless you can cover this stretch early morning, the local traffic will drive you mad! Also Fatehpur-Mandwa stretch is broken.

Loharu-Dwarka(145 kms) Post Loharu a beautiful rural highway (canopied by trees) takes you to Charkhi Dadri. Some town roads and some highways. Road condition is good, and (despite local traffic) you will make good progress.

Hope this helps in planning a similar trip.

PS: As suggested by Sudev Sir, have lunch at Riddhi Siddhi. Not expensive, very good vegetarian food.

Hi Hitesh and Sudev,

I'm planning a road trip through Rajasthan and will be travelling the Jaipur - Jaisalmer stretch via Bikaner. Does Mandawa Castle have good vegetarian food options as well? Flying into Jaipur by the morning flight from Bangalore and we will mostly be leaving from Jaipur around 1030-1100 and will reach Fatehpur area by lunch time. If there aren't any other options down the road, then Bikaner would be too far away for lunch.

Thanks!

Mandawa Castle is an upmarket option, but you'll have to get off the national highway into Fatehpur town. That you really don't want, given the traffic and time taken. If simple vegetarian fare is ok, try lunch at the RTDC Hotel Haveli in Fatehpur. Take a right turn towards Fatehpur town from the NH and its just 100 mtrs down the road, to the left.

Planning a trip from Delhi to Bikaner next week. Any updates on road conditions. Someone suggested taking NH8 and going upto Chomu and from there taking NH 11. Any better alternatives.
